Abstract

A method of detecting missing devices in a home entertainment system using a wireless home entertainment hub includes obtaining a registration of at least one device that includes a source device. An instruction is received from a user to present program content from the source device. A set of one or more sink devices missing from the home entertainment system for a presentation of the program content based on an assessment by the wireless home entertainment hub of presentation capabilities of the home entertainment system using the at least one device registered with the wireless home entertainment hub is determined. The set of one or more sink devices is presented to the user.

21. A method of conveying control instructions using multi-dimensional motion sensing of a remote control unit, the method comprising:

obtaining a registration of a plurality of source devices and sink devices with a wireless home entertainment hub;

receiving at the wireless home entertainment hub a first instruction to switch from presenting content from a first source device to presenting content from a second source device based on a first sensed motion of the remote control unit, the first sensed motion orienting the remote control unit to be directed toward the second source device while a first sink device presents the content from the first source device; and

transmitting the first instruction to the first sink device to switch from presenting the content from the first source device to presenting the content from the second source device.

22. The method of claim 21, wherein the first sensed motion corresponds to one of a predetermined set of physical motions.

23. The method of claim 21, further comprising:

receiving at the wireless home entertainment hub a second instruction to control a particular sink device based on a second sensed motion.

24. The method of claim 23, wherein the particular sink device comprises a speaker.

25. The method of claim 23, wherein the particular sink device comprises the first sink device switched from presenting the content from the first source device to presenting the content from the second source device.

26. The method of claim 25, wherein the second sensed motion comprises a vertical motion of the remote control unit directed at the first sink device.

27. The method of claim 26, wherein the second instruction controls a volume of the first sink device based on the vertical motion.

28. A computer readable medium storing computer program code for operations comprising:

obtaining a registration of a plurality of source devices and sink devices with a wireless home entertainment hub;

receiving at the wireless home entertainment hub a first instruction to switch from presenting content from a first source device to presenting content from a second source device based on a first sensed motion of the remote control unit, the first sensed motion orienting the remote control unit to be directed toward the second source device while a first sink device presents the content from the first source device; and

transmitting the first instruction to the first sink device to switch from presenting the content from the first source device to presenting the content from the second source device

29. The computer readable medium of claim 28, wherein the first sensed motion corresponds to one of a predetermined set of physical motions.

30. The computer readable medium of claim 28, further comprising:

receiving at the wireless home entertainment hub a second instruction to control a particular sink device based on a second sensed motion.

31. The computer readable medium of claim 30, wherein the particular sink device comprises a speaker.

32. The computer readable medium of claim 30, wherein the particular sink device comprises the first sink device switched from presenting the content from the first source device to presenting the content from the second source device.

33. The computer readable medium of claim 32, wherein the second sensed motion comprises a vertical motion of the remote control unit directed at the first sink device.

34. The computer readable medium of claim 33, wherein the second instruction controls a volume of the first sink device based on the vertical motion.

35. A method of conveying control instructions using multi-dimensional motion sensing of a remote control unit, the method comprising:

obtaining a registration of a remote control unit with a wireless home entertainment hub;

determining by the remote control unit a first instruction to switch from a presentation of content from a first source device to a presentation of content from a second source device based on a first sensed motion of the remote control unit, the first sensed motion orienting the remote control unit to be directed toward the second source device while a first sink device presents the content from the first source device; and

transmitting the first instruction from the remote control unit to the wireless home entertainment hub.

36. The method of claim 35, wherein the first sensed motion corresponds to one of a predetermined set of physical motions.

37. The method of claim 35, further comprising:

transmitting to the wireless home entertainment hub a second instruction to control a particular sink device based on a second sensed motion.

38. The method of claim 37, wherein the particular sink device comprises one of:

a speaker and the first sink device switched from presenting the content from the first source device to presenting the content from the second source device.

39. The method of claim 38, wherein the second sensed motion comprises a vertical motion of the remote control unit directed at the particular sink device.

40. The method of claim 39, wherein the second instruction controls a volume of the particular sink device based on the vertical motion.
