Abstract

A data transmission method and an apparatus to communicate data on multiple carriers in the mobile communication system are provided. A random access method of a terminal in a mobile communication system including primary and secondary cells operating on multiple carriers according to the present invention includes communicating data after random access in the primary cell, receiving, when the random access is triggered in the secondary cell, information for use in the secondary cell random access from the primary cell, transmitting a preamble in the secondary cell based on the received information, monitoring the primary cell to receive a Random Access Response for the secondary cell, and applying, when the Random Access Response for the secondary cell is received, the information carried in the Random Access Response to the secondary cell in which the preamble has been transmitted.

Claims

1. A random access method of a terminal in a mobile communication system including primary and secondary cells operating on multiple carriers, the method comprising:

communicating data after random access in the primary cell;

receiving, when the random access is triggered in the secondary cell, information for use in the secondary cell random access from the primary cell;

transmitting a preamble in the secondary cell based on the received information;

monitoring the primary cell to receive a Random Access Response for the secondary cell; and

applying, when the Random Access Response for the secondary cell is received, the information carried in the Random Access Response to the secondary cell in which the preamble has been transmitted.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein the information received from the primary cell comprises at least one of a maximum number of preamble transmissions and random access transmission resource information.

3. The method of claim 1, wherein the monitoring of the primary cell comprises determining whether the Random Access Response for the secondary cell is received using Random Access Response window size information used in the primary cell.

4. The method of claim 1, further comprising retransmitting, after the monitoring of the primary cell, the preamble for the second cell when a valid Random Access Response is not received in the secondary cell during a predetermined time period.

5. The method of claim 1, further comprising communicating, after the monitoring of the primary cell, data with the secondary cell based on information carried in the Random Access Response when a valid Random Access Response for the secondary cell is received.

6. The method of claim 5, wherein the information carried in the Random Access Response comprises at least one of uplink resource allocation information (UL grant), transmission power control command, and uplink transmission time adjustment information.

7. A terminal for performing random access in a mobile communication system including primary and secondary cells operating on multiple carriers, the terminal comprising:

a transceiver for communicating control information and data with at least one cell; and

a controller for controlling performing random access in the primary cell, for receiving, when the random access is triggered in the secondary cell, information for use in the secondary cell random access from the primary cell;

for transmitting a preamble in the secondary cell based on the received information;

for monitoring the primary cell to receive a Random Access Response for the secondary cell; and

for applying, when the Random Access Response for the secondary cell is received, the information carried in the Random Access Response to the secondary cell in which the preamble has been transmitted.

8. The terminal of claim 7, wherein the information received from the primary cell comprises at least one of maximum number of preamble transmissions and random access transmission resource information.

9. The terminal of claim 7, wherein the controller determines whether the Random Access Response for the secondary cell is received using Random Access Response window size information used in the primary cell.

10. The terminal of claim 7, wherein the controller controls retransmitting, after monitoring, the preamble for the second cell when a valid Random Access Response is not received in the secondary cell during a predetermined time period.

11. The terminal of claim 7, wherein the controller controls communicating, after monitoring, data with the secondary cell based on information carried in the Random Access Response when a valid Random Access Response for the secondary cell is received.

12. The terminal of claim 11, wherein the information carried in the Random Access Response comprises at least one of uplink resource allocation information (UL grant), transmission power control command, and uplink transmission time adjustment information.

13. A random access method of a terminal in a mobile communication system including primary and secondary cells operating on multiple carriers, the method comprising:

receiving mobility-related information;

determining a mobility state of the terminal based on the mobility-related information;

adjusting cell reselection parameters according to the mobility state; and

determining whether to select a new cell according to the adjusted cell reselection parameters.

14. The method of claim 13, wherein the mobility state is one of a high mobility, medium mobility, and normal mobility.

15. The method of claim 13, further comprising:

selecting a neighbor cell when it is determined to select a new cell, according to a channel state of the neighbor cell and a channel state of a current serving cell.

16. The method of claim 15, further comprising:

updating the mobility state of the terminal prior to receiving updated mobility information from the neighbor cell; and

adjusting the cell reselection parameters according to cell reselection parameters received from the neighbor cell.

17. The method of claim 13, further comprising:

initiating a Radio Resource Control (RRC) connection with the neighbor cell;

receiving mobility state report configuration information from the neighbor cell upon completion of the RRC connection; and

transmitting a mobility state report to the neighbor cell.
