Abstract

A method includes receiving an initial electronic file where the initial electronic file is associated with a work product. The method further includes resolving, automatically, an electronic file content type associated with the initial electronic file and executing, automatically, at least one subscription program associated with the electronic file content type of the initial electronic file. The method further includes retrieving an enhanced electronic file based on a matter security level. The enhanced electronic file is associated with an indication of completion of the at least one subscription program. Another embodiment includes extracting a set of metadata from the initial electronic file and storing the set of metadata from the initial electronic file in a memory. Yet another embodiment includes populating, automatically, at least one field within a field-oriented electronic file from the set of metadata.

Claims

1. A computer implemented method comprising:

a. receiving an initial electronic file, the initial electronic file associated with a work product;

b. resolving, automatically, an electronic file content type associated with the initial electronic file;

c. executing, automatically, at least one subscription program associated with the electronic file content type of the initial electronic file; and

d. retrieving an enhanced electronic file based on a matter security level, the enhanced electronic file being associated with an indication of completion of at least one subscription program.

2. The method of claim 1 wherein the work product is a litigation matter.

3. The method of claim 1 wherein the work product is a transactional matter.

4. The method of claim 1 wherein the electronic file content type is at least one of a contract, a legal motion document, a legal brief, a settlement agreement, an email, and a memorandum.

5. The method of claim 1 wherein the enhanced electronic file is at least one of an enhanced word processing document, an enhanced spreadsheet, an enhanced audio file, an enhanced video file, an enhanced image file, an enhanced text document, an enhanced field-oriented file, and an enhanced text associated with an image.

6. The method of claim 1 further comprising:

a. extracting a set of metadata from the initial electronic file; and

b. storing the set of metadata from the initial electronic file in a memory.

7. The method of claim 6 further comprising populating, automatically, at least one field within a field-oriented electronic file from the set of metadata.

8. The method of claim 7 wherein the at least one field is a party name field.

9. The method of claim 7 wherein the at least one field is a court jurisdiction field.

10. A system comprising:

a. a processor;

b. a memory coupled to the processor; and

c. a work product management system stored in the memory for execution by the processor, the work product management system comprising;

i. a receiver module, the receiver module configured to receive an initial electronic file, the initial electronic file associated with a work product;

ii. a resolution module, the resolution module configured to automatically resolve an electronic file content type associated with the initial electronic file;

iii. an execution module, the execution module configured to automatically execute, responsive to a resolution of the electronic file content type, at least one subscription program associated with the electronic file content type of the initial electronic file; and

iv. a retrieval module, the retrieval module configured to retrieve an enhanced electronic file based on a matter security level, the enhanced electronic file associated with an indication of completion of the at least one subscription program.

11. The system of claim 10 wherein the work product is a litigation matter.

12. The system of claim 10 wherein the work product is a transactional matter.

13. The system of claim 10 wherein the electronic file content type is at least one of a contract, a legal motion document, a legal brief a settlement agreement, an email, a memorandum and an image.

14. The system of claim 10 wherein the enhanced electronic file is at least one of an enhanced word processing document, an enhanced spreadsheet, an enhanced audio file, an enhanced video file, an enhanced image file, an enhanced text document, an enhanced field-oriented file, and an enhanced text associated with an image.

15. The system of claim 10 wherein the matter management system further comprises:

a. an extraction module, the extraction module configured to extract a set of metadata from the initial electronic file; and

b. a storage module, the storage module configured to store the initial electronic file and the set of metadata from the initial electronic file in the memory.

16. The system of claim 15 wherein the matter management system further comprises:

a. a population module, the population module configured to automatically populate at least one field within a field-oriented electronic file from the set of metadata.

17. The system of claim 16 wherein the at least one field is a party name field.

18. The system of claim 16 wherein the at least one field is a court jurisdiction field.

19. A computer-usable medium having a computer readable interact restriction program embodied therein, the computer readable internet restriction program comprising:

a. a first set of computer code configured to receive an initial electronic file, the electronic file associated with a work product;

b. a second set of computer code configured to automatically resolve an electronic file content type associated with the initial electronic file;

c. a third set of computer code configured to automatically execute, responsive to a resolution of the electronic file content type, at least one subscription program associated with the electronic file content type of the initial electronic file; and

d. a fourth set of computer code configured to retrieve an enhanced electronic file based on a matter security level, the enhanced electronic file associated with an indication of completion of the at least one subscription program.

20. The computer-usable medium of claim 19 wherein the work product is a litigation matter.

21. The computer-usable medium of claim 19 wherein the work product is a transactional matter.

22. The computer-usable medium of claim 19 wherein the electronic file content type is at least one of a contract, a legal motion document, a legal brief, a settlement agreement, an email, a memorandum and an image.

23. The computer-usable medium of claim 19 wherein the enhanced electronic file is at least one of an enhanced word processing document, an enhanced spreadsheet, an enhanced audio file, an enhanced video file, an enhanced image file, an enhanced text document, an enhanced field-oriented and an enhanced text associated with an image.

24. The computer-usable medium of claim 19 wherein the matter management system further comprises:

a. a fifth set of computer code configured to extract a set of metadata from the initial electronic file; and

b. a sixth set of computer code configured to store the initial electronic file and the set of metadata from the initial electronic file in the memory.

25. The computer-usable medium of claim 24 wherein the matter management system further comprises:

a. a seventh set of computer code configured to automatically populate at least one field within a field-oriented electronic file from the set of metadata.

26. The computer-usable medium of claim 25 wherein the at least one field is a party name field.

27. The computer-usable medium of claim 25 wherein the at least one field is a court jurisdiction field.
