Abstract

A mounting system for attaching an audio/visual device to a surface via a surface mounting member. The mounting system includes a support attachment bracket configured to operatively connect to the surface mounting member, a display mounting bracket configured to operatively connect to the audio/visual device, an adjustment mechanism configured to adjust a position of the display mounting bracket relative to the support attachment bracket between a collapsed position and a tilted position, and a locking feature configured to selectively engage a post for retaining the mounting system in the collapsed position. The locking feature is disposed on one of the support attachment bracket, the display mounting bracket, and the adjustment mechanism. The post is disposed on another of the support attachment bracket, the display mounting bracket, and the adjustment mechanism.

Claims

1. A mounting system for attaching an audio/visual device to a surface via a surface mounting member, the mounting system comprising:

a support attachment bracket configured to operatively connect to the surface mounting member;

a display mounting bracket configured to operatively connect to the audio/visual device;

an adjustment mechanism,configured to adjust a position of the display mounting bracket relative to the support attachment bracket between a collapsed position and a tilted position; and

a locking feature configured to selectively engage a post for retaining the mounting system in the collapsed position;

wherein the locking feature is disposed on one of the support attachment bracket, the display mounting bracket, and the adjustment mechanism and the post is disposed on another of the support attachment bracket, the display mounting bracket, and the adjustment mechanism.

2. The mounting system of claim 1, wherein the locking feature includes a first profile that is configured to engage the post.

3. The mounting system of claim 2, wherein the first profile is configured as a curved cam surface configured to impart a biasing force into the post.

4. The mounting system of claim 3, wherein the locking feature includes a second profile that is configured to converge toward the first profile toward a closed end of the locking feature.

5. The mounting system of claim 2, wherein the first profile is configured as a linear surface configured to impart a biasing force into the post.

6. The mounting system of claim 5, wherein the locking feature includes a second profile that is configured to converge toward the first profile toward a closed end of the locking feature.

7. The mounting system of claim 1, wherein the locking feature includes first and second profiles defining a passage having an open end and closed end, wherein the post is configured to move within the passage such that when the post is proximate the closed end, the post is biased towards remaining within the passage.

8. A mounting system for attaching an audio/visual device to a surface via a surface mounting member, the mounting system comprising:

a support attachment bracket configured to operatively connect to the surface mounting member;

a display mounting bracket configured to operatively connect to the audio/visual device; and

an adjustment mechanism operatively connecting the display mounting bracket and the support attachment bracket, the adjustment mechanism configured to articulate the display mounting bracket relative to the support attachment bracket through a pivot member;

wherein one of the display mounting bracket and adjustment mechanism includes a guide feature that is movably coupled to the pivot member and the other of the display mounting bracket and the adjustment mechanism is pivotally coupled to the pivot member;

wherein the guide feature includes a first leg that is configured to allow for forward tilt of the display mounting bracket relative to the support attachment bracket when the pivot member engages the first leg; and

wherein the guide feature includes a second leg that is configured to allow for rearward tilt of the display mounting bracket relative to the support attachment bracket when the pivot member engages the second leg.

9. The mounting system of claim 8, wherein the first leg of the guide feature is configured at an angle relative to the second leg.

10. The mounting system of claim 9, wherein the guide feature comprises an opening, with the first leg configured at an acute angle relative to the second leg.

11. The mounting system of claim 9, wherein the first leg of the guide feature is configured substantially parallel to a surface of the display mounting bracket that is configured to operatively connect to the audio/visual device.

12. The mounting system of claim 8, wherein the display mounting bracket includes a base that is configured to operatively connect to the audio/visual device and a wall that extends from the base, the wall having the guide feature therein.

13. The mounting system of claim 8, wherein the display mounting bracket includes the guide feature and is movably coupled to the pivot member.

14. The mounting system of claim 8, wherein the pivot member includes an inner post and an outer sleeve disposed around the inner post.

15. A mounting system for attaching an audio/visual device to a surface via a surface mounting member, the mounting system comprising:

a support attachment bracket configured to operatively connect to the surface mounting member;

a display mounting bracket configured to selectively shift relative to the support attachment bracket, the display mounting bracket configured to operatively connect to the audio/visual device; and

an adjustment assembly including;

an adjustment member;

a retaining member configured to pivotally support the adjustment member; and

a contact member having an external surface configured to be contacted by the adjustment member;

wherein rotation of the adjustment member relative to the retaining member when the adjustment member contacts the external surface of the contact member moves the contact member relative to the retaining member, thereby adjusting the position of the display mounting bracket relative to the support attachment bracket.

16. The mounting system of claim 15, wherein the adjustment member comprises a threaded fastener.

The mounting system of claim 16, wherein the contact member comprises a U-shaped cross-section with spaced apart and opposing side walls with each of the opposing side walls including an opening therein, and wherein the threaded fastener is sized and configured to rotate within the opening so as to selectively adjust the position of the display mounting bracket relative to the support attachment bracket.

18. The mounting system of claim 15, wherein the retaining member is integrally formed with one of the display mounting bracket and the support attachment bracket.

19. The mounting system of claim 18, wherein the contact member is integrally formed with the other of the display mounting bracket and the support attachment bracket.

20. The mounting system of claim 15, wherein the contact member comprises an L-shaped flange formed from a leg of the support attachment bracket.
