Abstract

A method and apparatus to receive a measure of heart rate for a user while the user is exercising on a stationary exercise device, calculate a speed of the user based on the measure of heart rate, and display on a display device viewable by the user a location of where the user would be along a selected route based on the user'"'"'s speed.

Claims

1. A method comprising:

receiving a measure of heart rate for a user while the user is exercising on a stationary exercise device;

calculating a speed of the user based on the measure of heart rate; and

displaying on a display device viewable by the user a location of where the user would be along a selected route based on the user'"'"'s speed.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein displaying on a display device viewable by the user a location of where the user would be along a selected route based on the user'"'"'s speed further comprises displaying on a display device viewable by the user a location of where the user would be along a selected route additionally based on a set of characteristics of the selected route.

3. The method of claim 2, wherein the set of characteristics of the selected route is selected from a group consisting of temperature, altitude, terrain, gradient, wind speed, wind direction, or a combination thereof.

The method of claim 1, further comprising receiving an additional measure of exertion selected from a group consisting of stride, cadence, and power, or a combination thereof, and wherein calculating a speed of the user based on the measure of heart rate comprises calculating the speed of the user based on the measure of heart rate and the additional measure of exertion.

5. The method of claim 4, wherein calculating the speed of the user comprises:

deriving the speed directly from the measure of heart rate;

or

deriving the speed directly from the measure of heart rate and the cadence;

or

deriving the speed directly from the measure of heart rate and the stride;

or

deriving the power from the measure of heart rate and then deriving the speed from the power.

6. The method of claim 5, wherein deriving the speed from the power comprises deriving the speed from the power according to Newton'"'"'s method.

7. The method of claim 1, wherein displaying on the display device viewable by the user the location of where the user would be along a selected route based on the user'"'"'s speed comprises displaying a location of where the user would be on one of a map or an elevation profile of the selected route displayed on the display device.

The method of claim 1, wherein displaying on the display device the location of where the user would be along a selected route based on the user'"'"'s speed comprises displaying a location of where the user would be in a video playback of a pre-recorded video of the selected route displayed on the display device.

9. The method of claim 8, wherein displaying on the display device the location of where the user would be along the selected route based on the user'"'"'s speed comprises:

calculating the location of where the user would be in the video playback of the pre-recorded video of the selected route based on the user'"'"'s speed; and

adjusting a speed of the video playback to display the calculated location of where the user would be in the video playback in accordance with the user'"'"'s speed.

10. The method of claim 9,

wherein calculating the location of where the user would be in the video playback of the pre-recorded video of the selected route based on the user'"'"'s speed comprises comparing the user'"'"'s speed with a speed of a recording device that captured the pre-recorded video;

and

wherein adjusting the speed of the video playback to display the calculated location of where the user would be in the video playback in accordance with the user'"'"'s speed comprises adjusting a frame rate of the video playback to the extent the user'"'"'s speed differs from the speed of the recording device.

11. The method of claim 10,

wherein calculating the location of where the user would be in the video playback of the pre-recorded video of the selected route based on the user'"'"'s speed further comprises calculating a multiplier based on the difference between the user'"'"'s speed and the speed of the recording device, and

wherein adjusting the frame rate of the video playback to the extent the user'"'"'s speed differs from the speed of the recording device comprises applying the multiplier to adjust the frame rate of the video playback.

12. At least one machine readable medium comprising a plurality of instructions that in response to being executed on a computing device, cause the computing device to:

receive a measure of heart rate for a user while the user is exercising on a stationary exercise device;

calculate a speed of the user based on the measure of heart rate; and

display on a display device viewable by the user a location of where the user would be along a selected route based on the user'"'"'s speed.

The at least one machine readable medium of claim 12, wherein to display on a display device viewable by the user a location of where the user would be along a selected route based on the user'"'"'s speed further comprises to display on a display device viewable by the user a location of where the user would be along a selected route additionally based on a set of characteristics of the selected route, wherein the set of characteristics of the selected route is selected from a group consisting of temperature, altitude, terrain, gradient, wind speed, wind direction, or a combination thereof.

The at least one machine readable medium of claim 12, further comprising to receive an additional measure of exertion selected from a group consisting of stride, cadence, and power, or a combination thereof, and wherein to calculate a speed of the user based on the measure of heart, rate comprises to calculate the speed of the user based on the measure of heart rate and the additional measure of exertion.

The at least one machine readable medium of claim 12, wherein to display on the display device viewable by the user the location of where the user would be along a selected, route based on the user'"'"'s speed comprises to display a location of where the user would be on one of a map or an elevation profile of the selected route displayed on the display device, or to display a location of where the user would be in a video playback of a pre-recorded video of the selected route displayed on the display device.

16. The at least, one machine readable medium of claim 15, wherein to display a location of where the user would be in a video playback of a pre-recorded video of the selected route displayed on the display device comprises:

calculating the location of where the user would be in the video playback of the pre-recorded video of the selected route based on the user'"'"'s speed; and

adjusting a speed of the video playback to display the calculated location of where the user would be in the video playback in accordance with the user'"'"'s speed.

17. An apparatus comprising:

a heart rate receiver to receive a measure of heart rate for a user while the user is exercising on a stationary exercise device;

a computer processing device coupled to the heart rate receiver to calculate a speed of the user based on the measure of heart rate; and

an electronic display device coupled to the computer processing device to display a location of where the user would be along a selected route based on the user'"'"'s speed.

The apparatus of claim 17, wherein the electronic display device to display a location of where the user would be along a selected route based on the user'"'"'s speed further comprises the display device to display a location of where the user would be along a selected route additionally based on a set of characteristics of the selected route, wherein the set of characteristics of the selected route is selected from a group consisting of temperature, altitude, terrain, gradient, wind speed, wind direction, or a combination thereof.

The apparatus of claim 17, further comprising a receiver to receive an additional measure of exertion selected from a group consisting of stride, cadence, and power, or a combination thereof, and wherein the computer processing device to calculate a speed of the user based on the measure of heart rate comprises the computer processing device to calculate the speed of the user based on the measure of heart rate and the additional measure of exertion.

The apparatus of claim 17, wherein the display device to display the location of where the user would be along a selected route based on the user'"'"'s speed comprises the display device to display a location of where the user would be on one of a map or an elevation profile of the selected route displayed on the display device, or to display a location of where the user would be in a video playback of a pre-recorded video of the selected route displayed on the display device.
