Abstract

The system and method for streaming media to a viewer and managing the media comprises an enhanced service routing processor (ESRP), a real time switch management system (RTSMS), a name routing processor (NRP), and a managed media switch (MMS). The RTSMS has a reservation system. The ESRP receives media from an owner, manages the media according to media rules and order rules defined by the owner, and distributes the media to one or more switches, such as the MMS, according to the media rules and the order rules. The RTSMS is configured to receive the media rules and to receive a viewer'"'"'s media request via the reservation server. The reservation system of the RTSMS processes the media request according to the media rules and builds a reservation for the requested media. The RTSMS generates the reservation to the viewer and to the NRP. The NRP receives the reservation data from the viewer and from the RTSMS. The NRP processes the reservation data and locates an MMS that can stream the media to the viewer. The NRP transmits the IP address of the MMS to the viewer and transmits the reservation data to the MMS. The viewer initiates a session or connection with the MMS using the reservation number. If the reservation data from the viewer matches the reservation data from the NRP, the MMS streams the media to the viewer.

Claims

1. A method for accessing media comprising:

receiving a request for media;

identifying, from at least one computing device, at least one program that includes the requested media, the program comprising a media list referencing the media, the media list comprising at least one media selector comprising a rules set defining how to select a media selection from the media referenced by the media list; and

identifying, at the at least one computing device, a first media selection based on the rules set.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein the media comprises one or more media clips, the media list comprises one or more media references for identifying the one or more media clips, and wherein using the rule set comprises processing at least one rule of the rule set to identify the first media selection, the first media selection being at least one of the one or more media clips.

3. The method of claim 2, wherein the one or more media references comprise a universal media locator for identifying the one or more media clips.

4. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

generating a presentation identifying the first media selection based on the program; and

generating a reservation associated with the presentation.

5. The method of claim 4, further comprising identifying at least one resource to stream the first media selection for reception by a viewer based on the reservation, wherein the resource is at least one member of a group consisting of a switch, a media software of the switch, and a stream caster of the switch.

6. The method of claim 1, wherein the media selector is an advertisement selector and wherein the first media selection is an advertising media clip.

7. A system for accessing media comprising:

a reservation system comprising at least one computing device to;

receive a request for media;

identify at least one program that includes the requested media, the program comprising a media list referencing the media, the media list comprising at least one media selector comprising a rules set defining how to select a media selection from the media referenced by the media list; and

identify a first media selection based on the rules set.

8. The system of claim 7, wherein the media comprises one or more media clips, the media list comprises one or more media references for identifying the one or more media clips and wherein using the rule set comprises processing at least one rule of the rule set to identify the first media selection, the first media selection being at least one of the one or more media clips.

9. The system of claim 8, wherein the one or more media references comprise a universal media locator for identifying the one or more media clips.

10. The system of claim 7, wherein the management system is further configured to:

generate a presentation identifying the first media selection based on the program; and

generate a reservation associated with the presentation.

11. The system of claim 10, further comprising a routing processor to identify at least one resource to stream the first media selection for reception by a viewer based on the reservation.

12. The system of claim 11, wherein the routing processor identifies the resource as at least one of a switch, a media software of the switch, or a stream caster of the switch.

13. The system of claim 7, wherein the media selector comprises an advertisement selector and wherein the first media selection comprises an advertising media clip.

14. A system for accessing media comprising:

at least one processor; and

an application encoded with instructions for accessing media, the instructions executable by the at least one processor to;

receive a request for media;

identify at least one program that includes the requested media, the program comprising a media list referencing the media, the media list comprising at least one media selector comprising a rules set defining how to select a media selection from the media referenced by the media list; and

identify a first media selection based on the rules set.

15. The system of claim 14, wherein the media comprises one or more media clips, the media list comprises one or more media references for identifying the one or more media clips and wherein using the rule set comprises processing at least one rule of the rule set to identify the first media selection, the first media selection being at least one of the one or more media clips.

16. The system of claim 14, wherein the one or more media references comprise a universal media locator for identifying the one or more media clips.

17. The system of claim 14, wherein the instructions, when executed, further:

generate a presentation identifying the first media selection based on the program; and

generate a reservation associated with the presentation.

18. The system of claim 17, wherein the instructions, when executed, identify at least one resource to stream the first media selection for reception by a viewer based on the reservation, wherein the resource comprises at least one member of a group consisting of a switch, a media software of the switch, and a stream caster of the switch.

19. The system of claim 14, wherein the media selector is an advertisement selector and wherein the first media selection is an advertising media clip.
