Abstract

A method and apparatus is disclosed for transferring digital content from a computing cloud to a computing device and generating recommendations for the user of the computing device.

Claims

1. A computing cloud comprising:

a computing device that establishes a social network that includes at least a first user and a second user;

a content store that stores a first set of metadata concerning digital content accessed by the first user and a second set of metadata concerning digital content accessed by the second user;

a recommendation engine, associated with the content store, configured to provide a recommendation for digital content to the first user based in part on said first set of metadata and said second set of metadata and the existence of the social network.

2. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the digital content recommended by the recommendation engine comprises audio content.

3. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the digital content recommended by the recommendation engine comprises a playlist.

4. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the digital content recommended by the recommendation engine comprises a radio station.

5. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the digital content recommended by the recommendation engine comprises video content.

6. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the digital content recommended by the recommendation engine comprises an advertisement.

7. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the digital content recommended by the recommendation engine comprises a coupon.

8. A computing cloud comprising:

a content store that stores a set of metadata generated by a plurality of users playing digital content; and

a recommendation engine comprising a first module for generating a set of recommendations based upon said set of metadata and a second module comprising a social graph filter for generating a subset of said set of recommendations.

9. The apparatus of claim 8, wherein said subset of said set of recommendations comprises audio content.

10. The apparatus of claim 8, wherein said subset of said set of recommendations comprises a playlist.

11. The apparatus of claim 8, wherein said subset of said set of recommendations comprises a radio station.

12. The apparatus of claim 8, wherein said subset of said set of recommendations comprises video content.

13. The apparatus of claim 8, wherein said subset of said set of recommendations comprises an advertisement.

14. The apparatus of claim 8, wherein said subset of said set of recommendations comprises a coupon.

15. A method for generating recommendations comprising:

establishing a social network that includes a first user and a second user and storing metadata for said social network in a first computing device; and

generating, by a second computing device, a first set of metadata concerning digital content accessed by the first user and a second set of metadata concerning digital content accessed by the second user;

generating, by a recommendation engine, a recommendation for digital content to the first user based in part on said first set of metadata and said second set of metadata and the existence of the social network.

16. The method of claim 15, wherein the digital content recommended by the recommendation engine comprises audio content.

17. The method of claim 15, wherein the digital content recommended by the recommendation engine comprises a playlist.

18. The method of claim 15, wherein the digital content recommended by the recommendation engine comprises a radio station.

19. The method of claim 15, wherein the digital content recommended by the recommendation engine comprises video content.

20. The method of claim 15, wherein the digital content recommended by the recommendation engine comprises an advertisement.

21. The method of claim 15, wherein the digital content recommended by the recommendation engine comprises a coupon.

22. A method for generating recommendations comprising:

generating, by a computing device, a set of metadata in response to a plurality of users playing digital content;

storing said set of metadata in a content store;

generating, by a recommendation engine, a set of recommendations based upon at least a portion of said set of metadata;

applying, by said recommendation engine, a social graph filter to generate a subset of said set of recommendations.

23. The method of claim 22, wherein said subset of said set of recommendations comprises audio content.

24. The method of claim 22, wherein said subset of said set of recommendations comprises a playlist.

25. The method of claim 22, wherein said subset of said set of recommendations comprises a radio station.

26. The method of claim 22, wherein said subset of said set of recommendations comprises video content.

27. The method of claim 22, wherein said subset of said set of recommendations comprises an advertisement.

28. The method of claim 22, wherein said subset of said set of recommendations comprises a coupon.
