Abstract

A method for performing handover at a mobile terminal which moves along an established path in a wireless communication system includes transmitting an indicator indicating a handover type to a serving base station without performing measurement with respect to neighboring base stations and movement path information, receiving information about a handover target base station on a path generated based on the movement path from the serving base station, and determining whether handover to the handover target base station is performed according to movement.

Claims

1. A method for performing a handover at a mobile terminal which moves along an established path in a wireless communication system, the method comprising:

transmitting an indicator indicating a handover type to a serving base station without performing measurement with respect to neighboring base stations and movement path information;

receiving information about a handover target base station on a path generated based on the movement path from the serving base station; and

determining whether performing the handover to the handover target base station according to movement.

2. The method according to claim 1, further comprising receiving handover triggering threshold information corresponding to the handover type according to the indicator from the serving base station,

wherein the determination as to whether the performing handover is made according to a received signal strength from the serving base station or a received signal strength from a target base station based on the handover triggering threshold.

3. The method according to claim 2, wherein it is determined that handover is performed, if the received signal strength from the serving base station is equal to or less than the handover triggering threshold.

The method according to claim 2, wherein it is determined that handover is performed, if the received signal strength from the serving base station is equal to or less than the handover triggering threshold and the received signal strength from the target base station is equal to or greater than a predetermined threshold.

5. The method according to claim 2, wherein the target base station to which handover is performed corresponds to a base station having a highest received signal strength among base stations included in the handover target base station information.

6. The method according to claim 1, wherein the determination as to whether the performing handover is made based on current position information of the mobile terminal and the handover target base station information.

7. The method according to claim 1, wherein, if the movement path information includes information about a current position and a destination of the mobile terminal, the handover target base station information includes information about a handover target base station on all paths according to the current position and the destination.

8. The method according to claim 1, wherein, if the movement path information includes a selected decided movement path, the handover target base station information includes information about a handover target base station on the decided movement path.

9. The method according to claim 1, further comprising performing the handover to a selected handover target base station according to a handover decision.

10. A method for performing a handover with respect to a mobile terminal which moves along an established path at a serving base station in a wireless communication system, the method comprising:

receiving an indicator indicating a handover type from the mobile terminal without performing measurement with respect to neighboring base stations and movement path information; and

transmitting handover target base station information generated based on the movement path information to the mobile terminal.

11. The method according to claim 10, further comprising generating the handover target base station information based on the movement path information.

12. The method according to claim 10, further comprising receiving the handover target base station information generated based on the movement path information from a core network node.

13. The method according to claim 12, wherein the core network node corresponds to a server, a position server or a serving gateway.

14. A mobile terminal for performing a handover in a wireless communication system, the mobile terminal comprising:

a transmitter;

a receiver; and

a processor,

wherein the processor controls the transmitter to transmit an indicator indicating a handover type to a serving base station without performing measurement with respect to neighboring base stations and movement path information, controls the receiver to receive information about a handover target base station on a path generated based on the movement path from the serving base station, and determines whether performing the handover to the handover target base station is performed according to movement.

The mobile terminal according to claim 14, wherein the processor controls the receiver to receive handover triggering threshold information corresponding to the handover type according to the indicator from the serving base station, and the processor determines as to whether performing the handover according to a received signal strength from the serving base station or a received signal strength from a target base station based on the handover triggering threshold.

16. The mobile terminal according to claim 15, wherein the processor determines that handover is performed, if the received signal strength from the serving base station is equal to or less than the handover triggering threshold.

17. The mobile terminal according to claim 15, wherein the processor determines that handover is performed, if the received signal strength from the serving base station is equal to or less than the handover triggering threshold and the received signal strength from the target base station is equal to or greater than a predetermined threshold.

18. The method according to claim 15, wherein the target base station to which handover is performed corresponds to a base station having a highest received signal strength among base stations included in the handover target base station information.

19. A serving base station for performing a handover with respect to a mobile terminal which moves along an established path in a wireless communication system, the serving base station comprising:

a receiver;

a transmitter; and

a processor,

wherein the processor controls the receiver to receive an indicator indicating a handover type from the mobile terminal without performing measurement with respect to neighboring base stations and movement path information and controls the transmitter to transmit handover target base station information generated based on the movement path information to the mobile terminal.
