Abstract

Systems and methods are provided for displaying tax penalty and interest assessment calculation details on demand, in real time. In some embodiments, a method includes receiving a request for a penalty and interest assessment value and determining if the request includes a request for calculation details. When the request includes a request for calculation details, the penalty and interest assessment value is calculated using data received with the request. One or more calculation details are populated based on the calculation of the penalty and interest assessment. The method includes displaying the calculated penalty and interest assessment value and the calculation details.

Claims

1. A non-transitory computer-readable medium storing computer-executable instructions that when executed by a computer cause the computer to perform a method, the method comprising:

receiving a request for a penalty and interest assessment value;

determining if the request includes a request for calculation details;

when the request includes a request for calculation details, calculating the penalty and interest assessment value using data received with the request;

populating one or more calculation details based on the calculation of the penalty and interest assessment; and

displaying the calculated penalty and interest assessment value and the calculation details.

2. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 1, further comprising when the request does not include a request for calculation details, retrieving a stored penalty and interest assessment value and displaying the retrieved penalty and interest assessment value.

3. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 1 where the calculating is performed without retrieving a stored penalty and interest assessment value.

4. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 1 where determining if the request includes a request for calculation details is performed based on a input selection to a plug-in that performs the penalty and interest assessment calculation.

5. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 1 where the data received with the request comprises a calculation date based upon which the penalty and interest assessment value is to be calculated.

6. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 1 where the calculated penalty and interest assessment value and the calculation details are not stored after being displayed.

7. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 1 where the calculation details include a log of individual penalty and interest assessments that result in the calculated penalty and interest assessment value.

8. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 1 where the calculation details include a textual description of calculation rules that are relevant to the calculated penalty and interest assessment.

9. A computing system, comprising:

an assessment request logic configured to i) receive a request for a penalty and interests assessment value and ii) determine a calculation action associated with the request;

an assessment selection logic configured to receive the calculation action, where the assessment selection logic comprises a penalty and interest calculation logic configured to i) calculate the penalty and interest assessment value using data received as part of the request and ii) populate one or more calculation details based on the calculation of the penalty and interest assessment when the calculation action corresponds to a request for calculation details; and

a display logic configured to display the retrieved penalty and interest assessment calculation or the calculated penalty and interest assessment and the calculation details.

10. The computing system of claim 9 further comprising:

a penalty and interest transaction data store configured to store penalty and interest transaction data;

where the assessment selection logic further comprises;

a penalty and interest retrieval logic configured retrieve a stored penalty and interest assessment value when the calculation action does not correspond to a request for calculation details; and

where the display logic is configured to display the retrieved penalty and interest assessment calculation.

11. The computing system of claim 9 where the penalty and interest calculation logic comprises a plug-in that receives an input selection parameter that corresponds to the request for calculation details.

12. The computing system of claim 11 where the assessment selection logic is configured to determine if the request includes a request for calculation details based on a input selection to the plug-in that performs the penalty and interest assessment calculation.

13. The computing system of claim 9 where the penalty and interest calculation logic is configured to calculate the penalty and interest assessment without retrieving a stored penalty and interest assessment value.

14. The computing system of claim 9 where the penalty and interest calculation logic is configured to calculate the penalty and interest assessment value using an input calculation date on which a penalty and interest assessment value is to be calculated.

15. The computing system of claim 9 where the penalty and interest calculation logic is configured to discard the calculated penalty and interest assessment value and the calculation details after the calculated penalty and interest assessment value and the calculation details are displayed.

16. The computing system of claim 9 where the penalty and interest calculation logic is configured to generate a log of individual penalty and interest assessments that result in the calculated penalty and interest assessment.

17. The computing system of claim 9 where the penalty and interest calculation logic is configured to include a textual description of calculation rules that are relevant to the calculated penalty and interest assessment in the calculation details.

18. A non-transitory computer-readable medium storing computer-executable instructions that when executed by a computer cause the computer to perform a method, the method comprising:

receiving a request for a penalty and interest assessment value with calculation details;

calculating the penalty and interest assessment value using data received with the request;

populating one or more calculation details based on the calculation of the penalty and interest assessment;

displaying the calculated penalty and interest assessment value and the calculation details; and

discarding the calculated penalty and interest assessment value and the calculation details without storing them.

19. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 18, further comprising:

receiving a request for a penalty and interest assessment value without calculation details;

in response, retrieving a stored penalty and interest assessment value;

and displaying the retrieved penalty and interest assessment value.

20. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 18 where the calculating is performed without retrieving a stored penalty and interest assessment value.
