Abstract

A search engine system, including a slashtag server configured to detect at least one key word in a search query and generate an alternative search query from the at least one key word, the alternative search query being based at least on computing an intermediary search of a plurality of characters from the at least one key word as the plurality of characters are being typed by a user, and for use in searching unaltered internet documents. Also a web server that may be configured to generate a first search result based on the alternative search query and cause display of the first search result in a web browser.

Claims

1. A search engine system, comprising:

a slashtag server configured to detect at least one key word in a search query and generate an alternative search query from the at least one key word, the alternative search query being based at least on computing an intermediary search of a plurality of characters from the at least one key word as the plurality of characters are being typed by a user, and for use in searching unaltered internet documents; and

a web server configured to generate a first search result based on the alternative search query and cause display of the first search result in a web browser.

2. The system of claim 1, wherein the alternative search query includes a slashtag.

3. The system of claim 1, wherein the intermediary search is computed based on content of the intermediary search result being compressed, wherein being compressed includes abbreviating and omitting parts of each entry in the intermediary search result.

4. The system of claim 3, wherein the compressed content of the intermediary search result is computed by omitting URL path information.

5. The system of claim 1, wherein the intermediary search is computed from a database of previously queried search results.

6. The system of claim 1, wherein the intermediary search is computed by using autosuggest to guess the at least one key word as the plurality of characters are being typed by the user.

7. The system of claim 1, wherein the intermediary search is computed simultaneously as the user types in the plurality of characters of the at least one keyword.

8. The system of claim 1, wherein the intermediary search is computed using anchortext to replace one or more terms of content in the intermediary search result.

9. The system of claim 1, wherein the web server is further configured to provide a link to select a second search result, the second search result being based on the at least one key word in the search query.

10. The system of claim 9, wherein the web server is further configured to:

detect a selection of the link to the second search result;

generate the second search result based on the at least one key word in the search query; and

display the second search result in the web browser.

11. The system of claim 10, wherein the first search result and the second search result are displayed next to each other on the same web page.

12. A method for processing content to be displayed, comprising:

detecting at least one key word in a search query;

generating an alternative search query from the at least one key word, the alternative search query being based at least on computing an intermediary search of a plurality of characters from the at least one key word as the plurality of characters are being typed by a user, for use in searching unaltered internet documents;

generating a first search result based on the alternative search query; and

causing display of the first search result in a web browser.

13. The method of claim 12, wherein the alternative search query includes a slashtag.

14. The method of claim 12, wherein the intermediary search is computed by compressing content of the intermediary search result, wherein compressing includes abbreviating and omitting parts of each entry in the intermediary search result.

15. The method of claim 14, wherein the compressed content of the intermediary search result is computed by omitting URL path information.

16. The method of claim 12, wherein the intermediary search is computed from a database of previously queried search results.

17. The method of claim 12, wherein the intermediary search is computed by using autosuggest to guess the at least one key word as the plurality of characters are being typed by the user.

18. The method of claim 12, wherein the intermediary search is computed simultaneously as the user types in the plurality of characters of the at least one keyword.

19. The method of claim 12, wherein the intermediary search is computed using anchortext to replace one or more terms of content in the intermediary search result.

20. The method of claim 12, further comprising:

providing a link to select a second search result, the second search result being based on the at least one key word in the search query.

21. The method of claim 20, further comprising:

detecting a selection of the link to the second search result;

generating the second search result based on the at least one key word in the search query; and

displaying the second search result in the web browser.

22. The method of claim 21, wherein the first search result and the second search result are displayed next to each other on the same web page.

23. A search engine system comprising:

a slashtag server configured to detect at least one key word in a search query and generate an alternative search query, based on the at least one key word, the alternative search query including a search operator associated with the at least one key word and used for searching unaltered internet documents; and

a web server configured to generate a first search result based on the alternative search query and cause display of the first search result in the web browser.
