Abstract

In accordance with embodiments, there are provided mechanisms and methods for creating visual components for tenants of an on-demand database service. These mechanisms and methods for creating visual components for tenants of an on-demand database service can enable embodiments to allow tenants to create reusable components for use in user defined interfaces, etc. The ability of embodiments to provide such feature may allow tenants to efficiently and effectively create interfaces.

Claims

1. A method, comprising:

receiving a first command to define a component for a user interface from a first tenant of a plurality of tenants using at least one on-demand service;

receiving at least one instruction to a user interface controller to access a portion of storage associated with the first tenant;

processing information associated with the portion of storage; and

returning a result of the processing to the component.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein the first command includes at least one attribute.

3. The method of claim 2, wherein accessing the portion of storage associated with the first tenant includes accessing at least one value of the at least one attribute.

4. The method of claim 3, wherein the information includes the at least one value of the at least one attribute.

5. The method of claim 4, wherein processing the information includes processing the at least one value of the at least one attribute.

6. The method of claim 5, wherein a result of the processing of the at least one u is returned back to the component for output.

7. The method of claim 6, wherein the output includes displaying the result of the processing to the first tenant.

8. The method of claim 1, wherein the at least one instruction defines the component as a reusable component.

9. The method of claim 8, further comprising executing the reusable component.

10. The method of claim 9, wherein the execution of the reusable component is triggered by a second command.

11. The method of claim 9, wherein the execution of the reusable component is triggered by a program initiated command.

12. The method of claim 9, wherein the execution of the reusable component is triggered by an event.

13. The method of claim 1, wherein the on-demand service includes an on-demand database service.

14. The method of claim 1, wherein the on-demand service includes a multi-tenant on-demand database service.

15. A machine-readable medium carrying one or more sequences of instructions which, when executed by one or more processors, cause the one or more processors to carry out the steps of:

receiving a first command to define a component for a user interface from a first tenant of a plurality of tenants using at least one on-demand service;

receiving at least one instruction to a user interface controller access a portion of storage associated with the first tenant;

processing information associated with the portion of storage; and

returning a result of the processing to the component.

16. An apparatus, comprising:

a processor; and

one or more stored sequences of instructions which, when executed by the processor, cause the processor to carry out the steps of;

receiving a first command to define a component for a user interface from a first tenant of a plurality of tenants using at least one on-demand service;

receiving at least one instruction to a user interface controller to access a portion of storage associated with the first tenant;

processing information associated with the portion of storage; and

returning a result of the processing to the component.

17. A method for transmitting code for use in a multi-tenant database system on a transmission medium, the method comprising:

transmitting code for receiving a first command to define a component for a user interface from a first tenant of a plurality of tenants using at least one on-demand service;

transmitting code for receiving at least one instruction to a user interface controller to access a portion of storage associated with the first tenant;

transmitting code for processing information associated with the portion of storage; and

transmitting code for returning a result of the processing to the component.
