Abstract

According to one embodiment, a magnetic recording head includes a main pole, a trailing shield opposing the main pole with a write gap therebetween, and a high-frequency oscillator between a distal end portion of the main pole and the trailing shield configured to produce a high-frequency magnetic field. The high-frequency oscillator includes a lower end surface facing the recording medium and an upper end surface substantially parallel to the lower end surface. The width of the lower end surface in a track-width direction is smaller than that of the upper end surface.

Claims

1. A magnetic recording head comprising:

a main pole configured to apply a recording magnetic field to a recording layer of a recording medium;

a trailing shield opposing the main pole with a write gap therebetween; and

a high-frequency oscillator between a distal end portion of the main pole and the trailing shield, configured to produce a high-frequency magnetic field,

the high-frequency oscillator comprising a lower end surface facing the recording medium and an upper end surface substantially parallel to the lower end surface, the width of the lower end surface in a track-width direction being smaller than that of the upper end surface.

2. The magnetic recording head of claim 1, wherein a ratio between the respective widths of the lower and upper end surfaces of the high-frequency oscillator ranges from 1.3 to 2.2.

3. The magnetic recording head of claim 2, wherein the high-frequency oscillator comprises opposite side surfaces extending from the lower end surface to the upper end surface, a spread angle of at least one of the side surfaces ranging from 10 to 30°

.

4. The magnetic recording head of claim 3, wherein the opposite side surfaces of the high-frequency oscillator extend spreading at an angle of 10 to 30°

to the lower end surface.

5. The magnetic recording head of claim 1, wherein the high-frequency oscillator is configured so that a ratio between an element height between the lower and upper end surfaces and the width of the upper end surface ranges from 1.5 to 3.3.

6. The magnetic recording head of claim 1, wherein the distal end portion of the main pole facing the high-frequency oscillator has the same shape as the high-frequency oscillator.

7. The magnetic recording head of claim 1, wherein the high-frequency oscillator comprises opposite side surfaces extending from the lower end surface to the upper end surface, a spread angle of at least one of the side surfaces ranging from 10 to 30°

.

8. The magnetic recording head of claim 7, wherein the opposite side surfaces of the high-frequency oscillator extend spreading at an angle of 10 to 30°

to the lower end surface.

9. The magnetic recording head of claim 8, wherein the high-frequency oscillator is configured so that a ratio between an element height between the lower and upper end surfaces and the width of the upper end surface ranges from 1.5 to 3.3.

10. The magnetic recording head of claim 8, wherein the distal end portion of the main pole facing the high-frequency oscillator has the same shape as the high-frequency oscillator.

11. The magnetic recording head of claim 2, wherein the high-frequency oscillator is configured so that a ratio between an element height between the lower and upper end surfaces and the width of the upper end surface ranges from 1.5 to 3.3.

12. The magnetic recording head of claim 2, wherein the distal end portion of the main pole facing the high-frequency oscillator has the same shape as the high-frequency oscillator.

13. A head gimbal assembly comprising:

a slider;

the magnetic recording head of claim 1 on the slider; and

a suspension configured to support the slider.

14. The head gimbal assembly of claim 13, wherein a ratio between the respective widths of the lower and upper end surfaces of the high-frequency oscillator ranges from 1.3 to 2.2.

15. The head gimbal assembly recording head of claim 13, wherein the high-frequency oscillator comprises opposite side surfaces extending from the lower end surface to the upper end surface, a spread angle of at least one of the side surfaces ranging from 10 to 30°

16. A disk drive comprising:

a disk recording medium comprising a recording layer;

a drive unit configured to support and rotate the recording medium; and

the magnetic recording head of claim 1 configured to perform data processing on the recording medium.

17. The disk drive of claim 16, wherein a ratio between the respective widths of the lower and upper end surfaces of the high-frequency oscillator ranges from 1.3 to 2.2.

18. The disk drive of claim 16, wherein the high-frequency oscillator comprises opposite side surfaces extending from the lower end surface to the upper end surface, a spread angle of at least one of the side surfaces ranging from 10 to 30°
