Abstract

This disclosure describes systems and methods related to facilitating payments via a peer-to-peer protocol. Tokenized information associated with a payment transaction may be obtained. Establishment of a peer-to-peer communications session with a payment recipient device may be facilitated. The tokenized information to the recipient device via the established peer-to-peer communications session may be communicated in order to facilitate completion of the payment transaction.

Claims

1. One or more computer-readable media configured to store computer-executable instructions that, responsive to execution by one or more processors, cause operations to be performed comprising:

obtaining tokenized information associated with a payment transaction;

facilitating establishment of a peer-to-peer communications session with a payment recipient device; and

communicating the tokenized information to the payment recipient device via the established peer-to-peer communications session in order to facilitate completion of the payment transaction.

2. The one or more computer-readable media of claim 1, wherein the tokenized information is obtained from one of (i) a secure element or (ii) a tokenization service provider.

3. The one or more computer-readable media of claim 1, wherein the peer-to-peer communications session utilizes a peer-to-peer protocol.

4. The one or more computer-readable media of claim 1, the operations further comprising:

verifying an identity of a consumer associated with the payment transaction.

5. The one or more computer-readable media of claim 1, wherein the tokenized information comprises at least one of (i) a payment credential, (ii) payment-related data, or (iii) information associated with at least one value added service (VAS).

6. The one or more computer-readable media of claim 5, wherein the payment-related data further comprises at least one of:

i) identification information for a payment account to be utilized in association with the payment transaction;

ii) consumer identification information to identify the payment account;

or

iii) consumer device identification information to identify the payment account.

7. The one or more computer-readable media of claim 5, wherein the information associated with the at least one VAS further comprises at least one of:

i) data associated with a pre-transaction VAS;

or

ii) data associated with a post-transaction VAS.

8. The one or more computer-readable media of claim 1, the operations further comprising:

evaluating a consumer device location based at least in part on consumer transaction processing preferences; and

determining whether the payment transaction can be completed based at least in part on the evaluation;

in response to determining the payment transaction can be completed, completing the payment transaction; and

in response to determining the payment transaction cannot be completed, aborting the payment transaction.

9. The one or more computer-readable media of claim 1, the operations further comprising:

generating an electronic receipt corresponding to the payment transaction; and

transmitting the electronic receipt to one or more devices based at least in part on consumer preferences.

10. A merchant point of sale device comprising:

at least one reader device configured to establish a peer-to-peer communications session with a consumer device; and

at least one processor configured to;

receive tokenized information via the established peer-to-peer communications session;

process the received information in order to determine transaction-related information; and

process a payment transaction utilizing the transaction-related information.

11. The merchant point of sale device of claim 10, wherein the tokenized information is de-tokenized by a de-tokenization service provider.

12. The merchant point of sale device of claim 10, wherein the tokenized information comprises information associated with at least one value added service (VAS).

13. The merchant point of sale device of claim 12, wherein the at least one processor is configured to:

communicate a VAS request to one or more service provider systems based at least in part on the information associated with the at least one VAS;

receive a response to the VAS request from the one or more service provider systems; and

process the payment transaction based at least in part on the received response to the VAS request.

14. A computer-implemented method, comprising:

obtaining, by a consumer device comprising at least one processor, tokenized information associated with a payment transaction;

facilitating, by the consumer device, establishment of a peer-to-peer communications session with a payment recipient device; and

communicating, by the consumer device, the tokenized information to the payment recipient device via the established peer-to-peer communications session in order to facilitate completion of the payment transaction.

15. The computer-implemented method of claim 14, wherein the tokenized information is obtained from one of (i) a secure element or (ii) a tokenization service provider.

16. The computer-implemented method of claim 14, wherein the peer-to-peer communications session utilizes a peer-to-peer protocol.

17. The computer-implemented method of claim 14, further comprising:

verifying, by the consumer device, an identity of a consumer associated with the payment transaction.

18. The computer-implemented method of claim 14, wherein the tokenized information comprises at least one of (i) a payment credential, (ii) payment-related data, or (iii) information associated with at least one value added service (VAS).

19. The computer-implemented method of claim 18, wherein the payment-related data further comprises at least one of:

i) identification information for a payment account to be utilized in association with the payment transaction;

ii) consumer identification information to identify the payment account;

or

iii) consumer device identification information to identify the payment account.

20. The computer-implemented method of claim 18, wherein the information associated with the at least one VAS further comprises at least one of:

i) data associated with a pre-transaction VAS;

or

ii) data associated with a post-transaction VAS.

21. The computer-implemented method of claim 14, further comprising:

evaluating, by the consumer device, a consumer device location based at least in part on consumer transaction processing preferences; and

determining, by the consumer device, whether the payment transaction can be completed based at least in part on the evaluation;

in response to determining the payment transaction can be completed, completing, by the consumer device, the payment transaction; and

in response to determining the payment transaction cannot be completed, aborting, by the consumer device, the payment transaction.

22. The computer-implemented method of claim 14, further comprising:

generating, by the consumer device, an electronic receipt corresponding to the payment transaction; and

transmitting, by the consumer device, the electronic receipt to one or more devices based at least in part on consumer preferences.
