Abstract

A system and method for charging a handgun. A body is frictionally fit over the slide of a handgun and placed against a hard surface. The grip of the handgun is depressed, thereby retracting the slide and ejecting any spent cartridge. As pressure on the grip is released, the recoil spring forces the slide forward relative to the frame of the handgun, stripping a cartridge from the magazine and inserting the cartridge into the barrel of the handgun. The body is then removed from the slide and the handgun may be fired. The body is configured to fit into frictional mating engagement with the slide and allow the barrel of the handgun to extend into a cavity in the body as the slide is retracted relative to the frame of the handgun.

Claims

1. A charger for a handgun comprising a barrel, a slide and a frame, the charger comprising:

(a) a body comprising a bottom face;

(b) a first sidewall defining a slide receiver in the bottom face of the body;

(c) a second sidewall defining a slot in the body in open communication with the slide receiver; and

(d) a slide stop provided on the body.

2. The handgun charger of claim 1 wherein the body further comprises:

(a) a top face;

(b) a first side;

(c) a second side;

(d) a front face; and

(e) a rear face.

3. The handgun charger of claim 2, wherein the slot defines an opening in the bottom face of the body.

4. The handgun charger of claim 3, wherein the slide receiver defines an opening in the rear face of the body.

5. The handgun charger of claim 4, wherein the slot defines an opening in the front face of the body.

6. The handgun charger of claim 5, wherein the slide stop is located between the slide receiver and the slot.

7. The handgun charger of claim 6, wherein the slide receiver is wider than the slot.

8. The handgun charger of claim 7, wherein the front face is flat.

9. The handgun charger of claim 2, further comprising a first set of serrations provided on the first side of the body and a second set of serrations provided on the second side of the body.

10. A handgun charger comprising:

(a) a body having a bottom face;

(b) a first sidewall in the body defining a slide receiver in the bottom face;

(c) a second sidewall in the body defining a slot in the bottom face;

(d) wherein the first slot is narrower than the slider receiver; and

(e) wherein the slide receiver is in open communication with the slot.

11. The handgun charger of claim 10, wherein the slide receiver extends deeper into the bottom face of the body than the slot.

12. The handgun charger of claim 10, wherein a slide stop is provided between the slide receiver and the slot.

13. The handgun charger of claim 10, wherein the slide receiver is sized to functionally fit into mated engagement with the slide of a handgun.

14. The handgun charger of claim 13, wherein the slot is provided with a width greater than the width of the barrel of a handgun and smaller than the width of the slide of the handgun.

15. The handgun charger of claim 14, wherein the slot is long enough to accommodate the barrel when a shell is ejected from the handgun through an ejection port.

16. The handgun charger of claim 10, further comprising a front face, wherein the bottom face defines a length of the handgun charger, wherein the front face defines a height of the handgun charger and wherein the length of the handgun charger is greater than the height of the handgun charger.

17. The handgun charger of claim 10, wherein the body comprises a front face and a rear face, and wherein the slide receiver defines an opening in the rear face of the body, and wherein the slot defines an opening on the front face of the body.

18. A method for charging a handgun comprising:

(a) providing a handgun charger comprising;

i. a body having a bottom face;

ii. a first sidewall in the body defining a slide receiver in the bottom face;

iii. a second sidewall in the body;

iv. wherein the first slot is narrower than the slider receiver;

v. wherein the slide receiver is in open communication with the slot;

(b) providing a handgun comprising a barrel, a slide and a grip;

(c) providing the slide of the handgun into the slide receiver;

(d) applying pressure to the grip until the barrel extends a sufficient distance into the slot to allow a cartridge to be inserted into the barrel; and

(e) releasing pressure on the grip until a cartridge is loaded into the barrel.

19. The method for charging a handgun of claim 18, further comprising placing the body against a hard surface while applying pressure to the grip.

20. The method for charging a handgun of claim 18, further comprising manually gripping the body while applying pressure to the grip.
