1. A surgical instrument system, comprising:
- an end effector comprising a distal end, wherein said end effector is movable between an open configuration and a closed configuration when a closing motion is applied thereto;
a firing member movable toward said distal end when a firing motion is applied thereto;
a handle comprising a firing actuator;
a motor configured to generate said firing motion, wherein said firing actuator is operable to operate said motor; and
a switch configured to prevent application of said firing motion until said switch has been activated.

Abstract
A surgical fastener apparatus having a handle, an elongated shaft having a proximal end attached to the handle and a distal end extending therefrom. An end effector including a pair of jaws pivoted at a proximal end thereof and movable between an open and closed position. A cartridge containing a plurality of surgical fasteners, the cartridge attached to the end effector. An electrically powered actuator for deploying the surgical fasteners, the actuator including a power source and a motor. A switch configured to prevent application of firing motions to the end effector until the switch has been activated.

9. A surgical instrument, comprising:
-
a handle assembly; an end effector operably coupled to said handle assembly and comprising a distal end, wherein said end effector is movable between an open configuration and a closed configuration when a closing motion is applied thereto; a motor operably supported by said handle assembly; a firing member operably interfacing with said motor such that rotation of said motor in one direction causes said firing member to from a proximal starting position to a distal position in said end effector and rotation of said motor in an opposite direction causes said firing member to move from said distal position to said proximal starting position; a source of electrical power for powering said motor; a first switch operably communicating with said source of electrical power and said motor such that activation of said first switch causes an application of electrical power to said motor; and a second switch configured to prevent an application of electrical power from said source of electrical power to said motor unless said second switch has been activated. - View Dependent Claims (10, 11, 12, 13)

14. A surgical instrument comprising:
-
a handle assembly; a motor operably supported by said handle assembly; a source of electrical power operably supported by said handle assembly; an end effector coupled to said handle assembly, said end effector comprising; a surgical fastener cartridge operably supporting surgical fasteners therein; an anvil supported relative to said surgical fastener cartridge such that one of said surgical fastener cartridge and said anvil is selectively movable relative to the other of said surgical fastener cartridge and said anvil upon actuation of a closure system operably supported by said handle assembly; a firing member operably interfacing with said motor such that rotation of said motor in one direction causes said firing member to from a proximal starting position to a distal position in said end effector and rotation of said motor in an opposite direction causes said firing member to move from said distal position to said proximal starting position; a firing trigger movably supported on said handle assembly and communicating with said source of electrical power and said motor, such that upon actuation thereof in a first actuation direction permits an application of said electrical power to said motor to cause said motor to rotate in said first direction; and a second switch operably supported by said handle assembly and interfacing with said firing trigger to prevent actuation of said firing trigger unless said second trigger has been activated. - View Dependent Claims (15, 16, 17)
