Abstract

A method for configuring a cooperative cell by a master Base Station (BS) in a wireless communication system is provided. The method includes instructing a Mobile Station (MS) and adjacent BSs to measure channels, receiving channel measurement results from the MS and the adjacent BSs, and determining at least one BS constituting a cooperative cell according to the channel measurement results. The at least one BS constituting the cooperative cell provides one of an UpLink (UL) service and a DownLink (DL) service to a same MS.

Claims

1. A method for configuring a cooperative cell by a master Base Station (BS) in a wireless communication system, the method comprising:

instructing a Mobile Station (MS) and adjacent BSs to measure channels;

receiving channel measurement results from the MS and the adjacent BSs; and

determining at least one BS constituting a cooperative cell according to the channel measurement results;

wherein the at least one BS constituting the cooperative cell provides one of an UpLink (UL) service and a DownLink (DL) service to a same MS.

The method of claim 1, wherein the at least one BS constituting the cooperative cell includes at least one BS constituting a UL cooperative cell, the at least one BS constituting the UL cooperative cell providing a UL service to one MS, and at least one BS constituting a DL cooperative cell, the at least one BS constituting the DL cooperative cell providing a DL service to the one MS.

3. The method of claim 2, wherein the at least one BS constituting the UL cooperative cell and the at least one BS constituting the DL cooperative cell are determined to be a same BS or different BSs.

4. The method of claim 3, further comprising determining, as the at least one BS constituting the cooperative cell, at least one adjacent BS having a channel measurement value greater than or equal to a predetermined threshold.

5. The method of claim 4, wherein the at least one BS constituting the cooperative cell is determined according to at least one of channel conditions, a cell load, and a path loss.

The method of claim 5, wherein the determining of the at least one BS constituting the cooperative cell comprises delivering, to the at least one BS constituting the cooperative cell, cooperative cell configuration information indicating information about the BSs determined to be constituting the cooperative cell.

7. An apparatus for configuring a cooperative cell by a master Base Station (BS) in a wireless communication system, the apparatus comprising:

a controller for instructing a Mobile Station (MS) and adjacent BSs to measure channels, receiving channel measurement results from the MS and the adjacent BSs, and determining at least one BS constituting a cooperative cell according to the channel measurement results;

wherein the at least one BS constituting the cooperative cell provides one of an UpLink (UL) service and a DownLink (DL) service to a same MS.

The apparatus of claim 7, wherein the at least one BS constituting the cooperative cell includes at least one BS constituting a UL cooperative cell, the at least one BS constituting the UL cooperative cell providing a UL service to one MS, and at least one BS constituting a DL cooperative cell, the at least one BS constituting the DL cooperative cell providing a DL service to the one MS.

9. The apparatus of claim 8, wherein the at least one BS constituting the UL cooperative cell and the at least one BS constituting the DL cooperative cell are determined to be a same BS or different BSs.

10. The apparatus of claim 9, wherein the controller determines, as the at least one BS constituting the cooperative cell, at least one adjacent BS having a channel measurement value greater than or equal to a predetermined threshold.

11. The apparatus of claim 10, further comprising a transmitter for delivering, to the at least one determined BS constituting the cooperative cell, cooperative cell configuration information indicating information about the at least one determined BS constituting the cooperative cell.

12. The apparatus of claim 11, wherein the at least on BS constituting the cooperative cell is determined according to at least one of channel conditions, a cell load, and a path loss.

13. A method for configuring a cooperative cell by a Mobile Station (MS) in a wireless communication system, the method comprising:

receiving a channel measurement indication from a master Base Station (BS), upon network entry of the MS;

determining channel measurement results according to the channel measurement indication, and transmitting the channel measurement results to the master BS; and

receiving cooperative cell configuration information indicating information about at least one BS constituting a cooperative cell as determined by the master BS;

wherein the at least one BS constituting the cooperative cell provides one of an UpLink (UL) service and a DownLink (DL) service to a same MS.

The method of claim 13, wherein the at least one BS constituting the cooperative cell includes at least one BS constituting a UL cooperative cell, the at least one BS constituting the UL cooperative cell providing a UL service to one MS, and at least one BS constituting a DL cooperative cell, the at least one BS constituting the DL cooperative cell providing a DL service to the one MS.

15. The method of claim 14, wherein the at least one BS constituting the UL cooperative cell and the at least one BS constituting the DL cooperative cell are determined to be a same BS or different BSs.

16. The method of claim 15, further comprising determining, as the at least one BS constituting the cooperative cell, at least one adjacent BS having a channel measurement value greater than or equal to a predetermined threshold.

17. The method of claim 16, wherein the at least one BS constituting the cooperative cell is determined according to at least one of channel conditions, a cell load, and a path loss.

18. An apparatus for configuring a cooperative cell by a Mobile Station (MS) in a wireless communication system, the apparatus comprising:

a controller for receiving a channel measurement indication from a master Base Station (BS) upon network entry of the MS, determining channel measurement results according to the channel measurement indication, transmitting the channel measurement results to the master BS, and receiving, from the master BS, cooperative cell configuration information indicating information about at least one BS constituting a cooperative cell as determined by the master BS;

wherein the at least one BS constituting the cooperative cell provides one of an UpLink (UL) service and a DownLink (DL) service to a same MS.

The apparatus of claim 18, wherein the at least one BS constituting the cooperative cell includes at least one BS constituting a UL cooperative cell, the at least one BS constituting the UL cooperative cell providing a UL service to one MS, and at least one BS constituting a DL cooperative cell, the at least one BS constituting the DL cooperative cell providing a DL service to the one MS.

20. The apparatus of claim 19, wherein the at least one BS constituting the UL cooperative cell and the at least one BS constituting the DL cooperative cell are determined to be a same BS or different BSs.

21. The apparatus of claim 20, wherein the controller determines, as the at least one BS constituting the cooperative cell, at least one adjacent BS having a channel measurement value greater than or equal to a predetermined threshold.

22. The apparatus of claim 21, wherein the at least one BS constituting the cooperative cell is determined according to at least one of channel conditions, a cell load, and a path loss.
