Abstract

A particular method includes receiving a media stream that includes digital broadcast grade video. The method further includes compressing the media stream to form a compressed digital media stream using a Joint Photographic Experts Group 2000 compliant compression coding system. The method further includes converting the compressed digital media stream into data packets. The method further includes selecting a cellular data network from a plurality of available cellular data networks based on one or more quality of service factors. The method further includes transmitting the data packets via the cellular data network.

Claims

1. A method comprising:

receiving a media stream including digital broadcast grade video;

compressing the media stream to form a compressed digital media stream using a Joint Photographic Experts Group 2000 compliant compression coding system;

converting the compressed digital media stream into data packets using a packetizer; and

transmitting the data packets via a cellular data network.

2. The method of claim 1, further comprising receiving the compressed digital media stream at the packetizer, wherein the compressed digital media stream is not received by the packetizer from a stored file.

3. The method of claim 1, wherein the digital broadcast grade video is Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers 424M compliant.

4. The method of claim 1, wherein the digital broadcast grade video is Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers 292M compliant.

5. The method of claim 1, wherein the digital broadcast grade video is Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers 259M compliant.

6. The method of claim 1, wherein the digital broadcast grade video includes high definition 3-D video.

7. The method of claim 1, wherein the digital broadcast grade video includes high definition video that satisfies a video quality standard of at least 1080p.

8. The method of claim 1, wherein the media stream includes digital audio associated with the digital broadcast grade video, and wherein the digital audio and the digital broadcast grade video are both compressed to form the compressed digital media stream.

9. The method of claim 1, wherein the data packets includes packets associated with more than one compressed digital media stream that has been packetized by the packetizer.

10. The method of claim 1, wherein the cellular data network is 4G-Long Term Evolution compliant.

11. The method of claim 1, wherein the data packets are transmitted via the cellular data network using a single cellular modem.

12. The method of claim 1, wherein transmitting the data packets further comprises selecting the cellular data network from among a plurality of available cellular data networks, the cellular data network selected based on one or more quality of service factors.

13. The method of claim 12, wherein the one or more quality of service factors are user-defined.

14. The method of claim 12, wherein the one or more quality of service factors includes at least one of bandwidth, priority of traffic, throttle of traffic, latency, delay, jitter, and packet loss.

15. The method of claim 12, wherein the cellular data network is further selected based on whether performance of the cellular data network satisfies a quality of service threshold that is user-defined, the quality of service threshold based on at least one of the quality of service factors.

16. The method of claim 12, wherein the cellular data network is selected in response to determining that latency of the cellular data network is below a user-defined latency threshold, the user-defined latency threshold defined based on ability of the cellular data network to support transmission of the compressed digital media stream.

17. A computer-readable medium comprising operational instructions that, when executed by a processor, cause the processor to perform a method comprising:

receiving a media stream including digital broadcast grade video;

compressing the media stream to form a compressed digital media stream using a Joint Photographic Experts Group 2000 compliant compression coding system;

converting the compressed digital media stream into data packets; and

causing the data packets to be transmitted via a cellular data network.

18. The computer-readable medium of claim 17, wherein transmitting the data packets further comprises selecting the cellular data network from among a plurality of available cellular data networks, wherein the cellular data network is selected based on one or more quality of service factors including latency of the cellular data network, wherein the cellular data network is selected in response to determining that the latency of the cellular data network is below a user-defined latency threshold that is defined based on ability of the cellular data network to support transmission of the compressed digital media stream, wherein the cellular data network that is selected is 4G-Long Term Evolution compliant, and wherein the data packets are transmitted via the cellular data network using a single cellular modem.

19. A system comprising:

a processor; and

a memory accessible to the processor, the memory including instructions that, when executed by the processor, cause the processor to perform a method comprising;

receiving a media stream including digital broadcast grade video;

compressing the media stream to form a compressed digital media stream using a Joint Photographic Experts Group 2000 compliant compression coding system;

converting the compressed digital media stream into data packets; and

causing the data packets to be transmitted via a cellular data network.

20. The system of claim 19, where in the processor and the memory are integrated into a video camera.
