Abstract
An image display apparatus and method of controlling the same are disclosed, by which a more convenient 3D (3-dimensional) user interface can be provided to a mobile terminal including a display unit capable of displaying a stereoscopic 3D image. The method includes displaying a first object on a display unit of the image display apparatus, partitioning the first object into a first plurality of layers, determining an inclination of the image display apparatus with respect to a reference and providing a prescribed 3D depth to each layer of the first plurality layers in response to the determined inclination.

a display unit configured to display a stereoscopic 3D image selectively by including a binocular disparity generating means; a first sensing module configured to detect a motion of the image display device; a second sensing module configured to detect a presence of a pointer, a proximity of the pointer and a location of the pointer; a camera; and a controller configured to; display a first object on the display unit, partition the displayed first object into a first plurality of layers, and provide a prescribed 3D depth to each layer of the first plurality of layers in response to one of an inclination of the image display apparatus with respect to a reference determined via the first sensing module, the presence the pointer proximity determined via the second sensing module and a location of a user determined using an image of the user taken via the camera. - View Dependent Claims (13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20, 21, 22)

23. A method of controlling a mobile terminal, comprising the steps of:

displaying, by a controller of the mobile terminal, at least one 3D object as a stereoscopic 3D image of a binocular disparity type on a display of the mobile terminal when a first condition is met; displaying, by the controller, the at least one 3D object as a stereoscopic 2D image on the display of the mobile terminal when a second condition is met; and displaying, by the controller, the at least one 3D object as a planar image on the display of the mobile terminal when a third condition is met.
