Abstract

The guidance and positioning device may be a system for creating a passage in tissue, positioning fasteners or other implants, and tensioning an elongated fastening member, like a suture, thread, wire, or pin. In some embodiments, the device may allow for the implantation of multiple sutures and fasteners in tissue. A fastener may be positioned at the distal end of a flexible pushrod. The fastener may be connected with the pushrod or may be loosely fitted with the distal end of the pushrod. A suture may be looped through or connected with the fastener such that one, two, or more sections, legs, strands, or portions of the suture extend from the fastener.

Claims

1. A deformable fastener system comprising:

a fastener having at least a deformable portion and an elongated fastening portion; and

an introducer having a distal portion configured to engage the fastener and position the fastener relative to a body tissue,

wherein the introducer is configured to position the fastener and the elongated fastening portion is tensioned relative to the body tissue.

2. The system of claim 1, wherein the deformable portion includes a mesh.

3. The system of claim 1, wherein the deformable portion includes fibers.

4. The system of claim 1, wherein the elongated fastening member includes a suture.

5. The system of claim 1, wherein the elongated fastening member includes polyethylene.

6. The system of claim 1, wherein the deformable portion and elongated fastening member include a similar polymer material.

7. The system of claim 1, wherein the elongated fastening portion is positionable through the proximal and distal portions of body tissue.

8. The system of claim 1, wherein the introducer is flexible.

9. The system of claim 1, wherein the introducer has a linear configuration and a curved configuration.

10. The system of claim 1, wherein the distal portion of the introducer is configured to penetrate an imperforate surface of the body.

11. A deformable fastener system comprising:

a fastener having at least a deformable portion and an elongated fastening portion; and

an introducer with a distal portion configured to engage the fastener,

wherein the elongated fastening portion is positionable through proximal and distal tissue portions to secure the fastener at the distal tissue portion.

12. The system of claim 11, wherein the deformable portion includes a mesh.

13. The system of claim 11, wherein the deformable portion includes fibers.

14. The system of claim 11, wherein the elongated fastening member includes a suture.

15. The system of claim 11, wherein the elongated fastening member includes polyethylene.

16. The system of claim 11, wherein the deformable portion and elongated fastening member include a similar polymer material.

17. The system of claim 11, wherein the introducer is flexible.

18. The system of claim 11, wherein the introducer has a linear configuration and a curved configuration.

19. A deformable fastener system comprising:

a fastener having at least a deformable portion and an elongated fastening portion; and

an introducer with a distal portion configured to engage the fastener,

wherein the fastener is positioned relative to a body tissue and secured with the elongated fastening portion.

20. The system of claim 19, wherein the deformable portion includes a mesh.

21. The system of claim 19, wherein the deformable portion includes fibers.

22. The system of claim 19, wherein the elongated fastening member includes a suture.

23. The system of claim 19, wherein the elongated fastening member includes polyethylene.

24. The system of claim 19, wherein the deformable portion and elongated fastening member include a similar polymer material.

25. The system of claim 19, wherein the introducer is flexible.

26. The system of claim 19, wherein the introducer has a linear configuration and a curved configuration.
