Abstract

A computer communication system includes a database, a display application and a communication application. The database is configured to store data pertaining to a financial transaction. The display application is configured to execute on a processor to create a display for displaying a user-selectable communication item corresponding to the financial transaction. The communication application is configured to execute on a processor to create a communication interface. The communication interface enables a first user to initiate, by selecting the user-selectable communication item, a communication with a second user regarding the financial transaction, where the communication is an e-mail communication or an instant messaging communication. The communication interface also automatically embeds one or more transaction parameters corresponding to the financial transaction in the communication to be displayed to the second user. The one or more transaction parameters are based on the data pertaining to the financial transaction stored in the database.

Claims

1. A computer communication system comprising:

a database configured to store data pertaining to a financial transaction;

a display application stored on a computer readable memory and configured to execute on a processor to create a display for displaying a user-selectable communication item corresponding to the financial transaction; and

a communication application stored on a computer readable memory and configured to execute on a processor to create a communication interface, wherein the communication interface

enables a first user to initiate, by selecting the user-selectable communication item, a communication with a second user regarding the financial transaction, wherein the communication is an e-mail communication or an instant messaging communication, and

automatically embeds one or more transaction parameters corresponding to the financial transaction in the communication to be displayed to the second user, wherein the one or more transaction parameters are based on the data pertaining to the financial transaction stored in the database.

2. The computer communication system of claim 1, wherein the communication is an instant messaging communication, and wherein the communication interface enables the first user to initiate the instant messaging communication with the second user via a first instant messaging window.

3. The computer communication system of claim 2, wherein the instant messaging communication is a communication to be displayed to the second user via a second instant messaging communication window.

4. The computer communication system of claim 3, wherein the communication interface automatically embeds the one or more transaction parameters in the communication to be displayed to the second user by causing the one or more transaction parameters to be displayed in the second instant messaging window.

The computer communication system of claim 1, wherein the one or more transaction parameters include one or more parameters selected from a group consisting of a status of the financial transaction, a type of the financial transaction, a quantity of an asset involved in the financial transaction, a type of an asset involved in the financial transaction, a price of an asset involved in the financial transaction, and a counterparty to the financial transaction.

6. The computer communication system of claim 1, wherein the second user is an account manager for an investment fund that is a party to the financial transaction.

7. The computer communication system of claim 1, wherein the communication interface further embeds in the communication a link to the data in the database pertaining to the financial transaction.

8. The computer communication system of claim 1, wherein the communication application further saves the communication in the database and associates the communication with the financial transaction.

9. The computer communication system of claim 1, wherein the communication is an e-mail communication.

10. The computer communication system of claim 1, wherein the user-selectable communication item corresponding to the financial transaction includes a menu item included in a menu displayed along with at least one of the one or more transaction parameters.

11. A method of setting up a computer communication regarding a financial transaction, the method comprising:

receiving from one or more electronic data sources data pertaining to a financial transaction;

storing the received data pertaining to the financial transaction in a database;

displaying a user-selectable communication item corresponding to the financial transaction, via a processor executing a display application, wherein the display application is stored on a computer readable memory, and wherein the one or more transaction parameters are based on the data pertaining to the financial transaction stored in the database;

receiving, via a processor executing a communication application, a request from a first user to initiate a communication with a second user regarding the financial transaction, wherein the request from the first user corresponds to a selection by the first user of the user-selectable communication item corresponding to the financial transaction;

initiating, via a processor executing the communication application and in response to receiving the request from the first user, the communication between the first user and the second user regarding the financial transaction, wherein the communication is an e-mail communication or an instant messaging communication; and

automatically embedding, via a processor executing the communication application, one or more transaction parameters corresponding to the financial transaction in the communication displayed to the second user, wherein the one or more transaction parameters are based on the data pertaining to the financial transaction stored in the database.

The method of claim 11, wherein the communication is an instant messaging communication, and wherein initiating the communication between the first user and the second user regarding the financial transaction includes initiating an instant messaging communication with the second user via a first instant messaging window.

13. The method of claim 12, wherein the instant messaging communication is a communication to be displayed to the second user via a second instant messaging communication window.

14. The method of claim 13, wherein automatically embedding the one or more transaction parameters corresponding to the financial transaction in the communication further includes causing the one or more transaction parameters to be displayed in the second instant messaging window.

The method of claim 11, wherein the one or more transaction parameters include one or more parameters selected from a group consisting of a status of the financial transaction, a type of the financial transaction, a quantity of an asset involved in the financial transaction, a type of an asset involved in the financial transaction, a price of an asset involved in the financial transaction, and a counterparty to the financial transaction.

16. The method of claim 11, wherein the second user is an account manager for an investment fund that is a party to the financial transaction.

17. The method of claim 11, wherein automatically embedding the one or more transaction parameters in the communication includes automatically embedding in the communication a link to the data in the database pertaining to the financial transaction.

18. The method of claim 11, further comprising saving the communication in the database and associating the communication with the financial transaction.

19. The method of claim 11, wherein the communication is an e-mail communication.

20. The method of claim 11, wherein the user-selectable communication item corresponding to the financial transaction includes a menu item included in a menu displayed along with at least one of the one or more transaction parameters.
