Abstract

Methods and apparatuses indicate and identify quasi co-located reference signal ports. A method of identifying by a UE includes identifying, from downlink control information, a CSI-RS port that is quasi co-located with a DM-RS port assigned to the UE. The method includes identifying large scale properties for the assigned DM-RS port based on large scale properties for the CSI-RS port. The method includes performing channel estimation and/or time/frequency synchronization using the identified large scale properties for the DM-RS port. Another method for identifying by a UE includes identifying, from downlink control information, a CRS port that is quasi co-located with a CSI-RS port configured for the UE. The method includes identifying large scale properties for the configured CSI-RS port based on large scale properties for the CRS port. The method includes performing channel estimation and/or time/frequency synchronization using the identified large scale properties for the CSI-RS port.

Claims

1. A method for identifying quasi co-located reference signal ports by a user equipment (UE), the method comprising:

receiving downlink control information;

identifying, from the downlink control information, a channel state information reference signal (CSI-RS) port that is quasi co-located with a demodulation reference signal (DM-RS) port assigned to the UE;

identifying large scale properties for the assigned DM-RS port based on large scale properties for the CSI-RS port; and

performing at least one of channel estimation, time synchronization, or frequency synchronization using the large scale properties for the assigned DM-RS port and the CSI-RS port.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein the CSI-RS port being quasi co-located with the assigned DM-RS port means that at least some of the large scale properties for the assigned DM-RS port can be inferred from the large scale properties for the CSI-RS port.

3. The method of claim 1, wherein:

the large scale properties for the assigned DM-RS port identified based on the large scale properties for the CSI-RS port include at least one of a Doppler shift, a Doppler spread, an average delay, or a delay spread, and

the downlink control information is higher layer signaled or dynamically signaled.

4. The method of claim 1 further comprising:

identifying a cell-specific reference signal (CRS) port associated with the CSI-RS port as quasi co-located with the assigned DM-RS port in response to identifying that the CSI-RS port is quasi co-located with the assigned DM-RS port; and

identifying frequency large scale properties for the assigned DM-RS port and the CSI-RS port based on frequency large scale properties for the CRS-RS port.

5. A method for indicating quasi co-located reference signal ports by a network entity, the method comprising:

providing, in downlink control information for a user equipment (UE), an indication of a channel state information reference signal (CSI-RS) port that is quasi co-located with a DM-RS port assigned to the UE for the UE to identify large scale properties for the assigned DM-RS port based on large scale properties for the CSI-RS port to perform at least one of channel estimation, time synchronization, or frequency synchronization using the identified large scale properties for the assigned DM-RS port and the CSI-RS port.

6. The method of claim 5, wherein the CSI-RS port being quasi co-located with the assigned DM-RS port means that at least some of the large scale properties for the assigned DM-RS port can be inferred from the large scale properties for the CSI-RS port.

7. The method of claim 5, wherein:

the large scale properties for the assigned DM-RS port identified based on the large scale properties for the CSI-RS port include at least one of a Doppler shift, a Doppler spread, an average delay, or a delay spread, and

the downlink control information is higher layer signaled or dynamically signaled.

8. An apparatus in a user equipment (UE) configured to identify quasi co-located reference signal ports, the apparatus comprising:

a receiver configured to receive downlink control information; and

a controller configured to;

identify, from the downlink control information, a channel state information reference signal (CSI-RS) port that is quasi co-located with a demodulation reference signal (DM-RS) port assigned to the UE;

identify large scale properties for the assigned DM-RS port based on large scale properties for the CSI-RS port; and

perform at least one of channel estimation, time synchronization, or frequency synchronization using the large scale properties for the assigned DM-RS port and the CSI-RS port.

9. The apparatus of claim 8, wherein the CSI-RS port being quasi co-located with the assigned DM-RS port means that at least some of the large scale properties for the assigned DM-RS port can be inferred from the large scale properties for the CSI-RS port.

10. The apparatus of claim 8, wherein:

the large scale properties for the assigned DM-RS port identified based on the large scale properties for the CSI-RS port include at least one of a Doppler shift, a Doppler spread, an average delay, or a delay spread, and

the downlink control information is higher layer signaled or dynamically signaled.

11. The apparatus of claim 8, wherein the controller is further configured to:

identify a cell-specific reference signal (CRS) port associated with the CSI-RS port as quasi co-located with the assigned DM-RS port in response to identifying that the CSI-RS port is quasi co-located with the assigned DM-RS port; and

identify frequency large scale properties for the assigned DM-RS port and the CSI-RS port based on frequency large scale properties for the CRS port.

12. An apparatus in a network entity configured to indicate quasi co-located reference signal ports, the apparatus comprising:

a transmitter configured to provide, in downlink control information for a user equipment (UE), an indication of a channel state information reference signal (CSI-RS) port that is quasi co-located with a demodulation reference signal (DM-RS) port assigned to the UE for the UE to identify large scale properties for the assigned DM-RS port based on large scale properties for the CSI-RS port to perform at least one of channel estimation, time synchronization, or frequency synchronization using the identified large scale properties for the assigned DM-RS port and the CSI-RS port.

13. The apparatus of claim 12, wherein the CSI-RS port being quasi co-located with the assigned DM-RS port means that at least some of the large scale properties for the assigned DM-RS port can be inferred from the large scale properties for the CSI-RS port.

14. The apparatus of claim 12, wherein:

the large scale properties for the assigned DM-RS port identified based on the large scale properties for the CSI-RS port include at least one of a Doppler shift, a Doppler spread, an average delay, or a delay spread, and

the downlink control information is higher layer signaled or dynamically signaled.

15. A method for identifying quasi co-located reference signal ports by a user equipment (UE), the method comprising:

receiving downlink control information;

identifying, from the downlink control information, a cell-specific reference signal (CRS) port that is quasi co-located with a channel state information reference signal (CSI-RS) port configured for the UE;

identifying large scale properties for the configured CSI-RS port based on large scale properties for the CRS port; and

performing at least one of channel estimation, time synchronization, or frequency synchronization using the large scale properties for the CSI-RS port.

16. The method of claim 15 further comprising:

identifying, from the downlink control information, a cell identifier associated with one or more CRS ports;

identifying one or more CSI-RS ports associated with a CSI-RS resource configured for the UE; and

determining that the one or more identified CRS ports are quasi co-located with the one or more identified CSI-RS ports.

17. The method of claim 15, wherein the CRS port being quasi co-located with the configured CSI-RS port means that at least some of the large scale properties of the configured CSI-RS port can be inferred from the large scale properties of the CRS port.

18. The method of claim 15, wherein the large scale properties of the configured CSI-RS port identified based on the large scale properties of the CSI-IS-RS port include at least one of a Doppler shift, a Doppler spread, an average delay, or a delay spread.

19. A method for indicating quasi co-located reference signal ports by a network entity, the method comprising:

providing, in downlink control information for a user equipment (UE), an indication of a cell-specific reference signal (CRS) port that is quasi co-located with a channel state information reference signal (CSI-RS) port configured for the UE for the UE to identify large scale properties for the configured CSI-RS port based on large scale properties for the CRS port to perform at least one of channel estimation, time synchronization, or frequency synchronization using the identified large scale properties for the CSI-RS port.

20. The method of claim 19 further comprising:

providing, in downlink control information for the UE, an indication of a cell identifier associated with one or more CRS ports for the UE for the UE to determine that the one or more identified CRS ports are quasi co-located with one or more CSI-RS ports associated with a CSI-RS resource configured for the UE.

21. The method of claim 19, wherein the CRS port being quasi co-located with the configured CSI-RS port means that at least some of the large scale properties of the configured CSI-RS port can be inferred from the large scale properties of the CRS port.

22. The method of claim 19, wherein the large scale properties of the configured CSI-RS port identified based on the large scale properties of the CSI-IS-RS port include at least one of a Doppler shift, a Doppler spread, an average delay, or a delay spread.

23. An apparatus in a user equipment (UE) configured to identify quasi co-located reference signal ports, the apparatus comprising:

a receiver configured to receive downlink control information; and

a controller configured to;

identify, from the downlink control information, a cell-specific reference signal (CRS) port that is quasi co-located with a channel state information reference signal (CSI-RS) port configured for the UE;

identify large scale properties for the configured CSI-RS port based on large scale properties for the CRS port; and

perform at least one of channel estimation, time synchronization, or frequency synchronization using the large scale properties for the CSI-RS port.

24. The apparatus of claim 23, wherein the controller is further configured to:

identify, from the downlink control information, a cell identifier associated with one or more CRS ports;

identify one or more CSI-RS ports associated with a CSI-RS resource configured for the UE; and

determine that the one or more identified CRS ports are quasi co-located with the one or more identified CSI-RS ports.

25. The apparatus of claim 23, wherein the CRS port being quasi co-located with the configured CSI-RS port means that at least some of the large scale properties of the configured CSI-RS port can be inferred from the large scale properties of the CRS port.

26. The apparatus of claim 23, wherein the large scale properties of the configured CSI-RS port identified based on the large scale properties of the CSI-IS-RS port include at least one of a Doppler shift, a Doppler spread, an average delay, or a delay spread.

27. An apparatus in a network entity configured to indicate quasi co-located reference signal ports, the apparatus comprising:

a transmitter configured to provide, in downlink control information for a user equipment (UE), an indication of a cell-specific reference signal (CRS) port that is quasi co-located with a channel state information reference signal (CSI-RS) port configured for the UE for the UE to identify large scale properties for the configured CSI-RS port based on large scale properties for the CRS port to perform at least one of channel estimation, time synchronization, or frequency synchronization using the identified large scale properties for the CSI-RS port.

The apparatus of claim 27, wherein the transmitter is configured to provide, in downlink control information for the UE, an indication of a cell identifier associated with one or more CRS ports for the UE for the UE to determine that the one or more identified CRS ports are quasi co-located with one or more CSI-RS ports associated with a CSI-RS resource configured for the UE.

29. The apparatus of claim 27, wherein the CRS port being quasi co-located with the configured CSI-RS port means that at least some of the large scale properties of the configured CSI-RS port can be inferred from the large scale properties of the CRS port.

30. The apparatus of claim 27, wherein the large scale properties of the configured CSI-RS port identified based on the large scale properties of the CSI-IS-RS port include at least one of a Doppler shift, a Doppler spread, an average delay, or a delay spread.
