VEHICLE COMMUNICATION MESSAGE FORWARDING SYSTEM AND METHOD
First Claim
1. A vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) communication system comprising:
- a plurality of vehicles;
a V2V transceiver in each vehicle;
wherein each V2V transceiver, the first V2V transceiver, is configured to receive a V2V message, the received message, from a second V2V transceiver, and wherein the first V2V receiver is configured to broadcast a new message, the forwarded message, wherein the core contents of the forwarded message are substantially the same as the core contents of the received message;
wherein the forwarded message is modified to indicate that it is not the original broadcast of the core contents of the forwarded message;
wherein the receiving and broadcasting of forwarded messages is repeated within the V2V communications system a finite and deterministic number of times;
wherein the forwarded messages are free of a specific recipient identifier.

Abstract
Device, system and method, in a vehicle communication system of wirelessly forwarding safety related messages. Methods are provided for limiting the number of duplicated transmissions. Methods are provided for limiting the scope of forwarded message. One embodiment uses the distance of the message originator to a first message forwarder to limit duplicate messages. Various embodiments limit the scope of messages forwarding by using a forwarding count; by considering distance forwarded, and by considering the heading of vehicles performing the message forwarding. Forwarding distance depends of message type and the risk contained within the message, in some embodiments. An embodiment uses a compact message encoding to identify an original versus a forwarded message.

9. A vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) transceiver comprising wherein:
-
a location determination module, wherein the location determination module determines the location of the V2V transceiver; a wireless receive module; a wireless transmit module; a computation module operatively connected to the location determination module, the receive module, and the transmit module, and wherein the computation module is configured to; receive a V2V message from the receive module, the received message, from a second V2V transceiver, and wherein the first V2V receiver is configured to broadcast a new message via the transmit module, the forwarded message, wherein the core contents of the forwarded message are substantially the same as the core contents of the received message; wherein the forwarded message is modified to indicate that it is not the original broadcast of the core contents of the forwarded message; wherein the forwarded message is free of a specific recipient identifier.

10. A method of forwarding vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) messages comprising:
-
broadcasting an original V2V message from a first V2V transceiver wherein the message comprises a forwarding limit metric and original core data; receiving a V2V message, the received message, by a second V2V transceiver, wherein the received message comprises the same forwarding limit metric as the original V2V message; comparing the forwarding limit metric in the received message to a forwarding limit; broadcasting a new V2V message, the forwarded message, by the second V2V transceiver, only if the forwarding limit metric contained in the received message is less than the forwarding limit; and wherein the forwarded message comprises as forwarded data substantially the same data as the original core data; wherein the forwarded message additionally comprises an indication that it is a forwarded message; wherein the forwarded message is free of a specific recipient identifier.
