Abstract

Embodiments of the disclosed technology provide a combination electroencephalography and non-invasive stimulation devices. Upon measuring an electrical anomaly in a region of a brain, various non-invasive stimulation techniques are utilized to correct neural activity. Stimulation techniques include transcranial direct current stimulation, transcranial alternating current stimulation and transcranial random noise stimulation, low threshold transcranial magnetic stimulation and repetitive transcranial magnet stimulation. Devices of the disclosed technology may utilize visual, balance, auditory, and other stimuli to test the subject, analyze necessary brain stimulations, and administer stimulation to the brain.

Claims

1. A bi-directional method of carrying out electrophysiological data recording and analysis with manual or automated delivery of transcranial current stimulation, comprising the steps of:

via at least one electrode, conducting a non-invasive measurement of electrical currents within a brain of a person;

determining functional abnormality in said person based on said conducting while providing directed sensory stimuli to said person;

sending a non-invasive brain stimulation using low threshold transcranial magnetic stimulation to the brain of the person.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein the sending of the non-invasive brain stimulation is performed manually to at least one of:

a single brain location; and

a plurality of brain locations, the sending done to at least one of;

a manually selected site;

a plurality of manually selected sites; and

a preprogrammed location sequence.

3. The method of claim 2 further comprising:

measuring, in real time, an electrophysiology measure of the brain before and after stimulation sending.

4. The method of claim 1, wherein said non-invasive brain stimulation comprises a plurality of clusters of electrodes.

5. The method of claim 1 further comprising:

sending the non-invasive brain stimulation for an extended duration or sequence at a frequency between 0.1 Hertz and 100,000 Hertz.

6. The method of claim 1 further comprising:

measuring electrophysiology changes at one or more scalp locations; and

adjusting a frequency and intensity of the non-invasive brain stimulation based on the measured electrophysiology changes, wherein the frequency and intensity includes at least one of;

an electroencephalography amplitude or coherence, an event related potential amplitude and latency.

7. The method of claim 6 further comprising:

adjusting one or more stimulation thresholds to a level determined by neuronal tissue modulation.

8. The method of claim 1, wherein said plurality of electrodes are pre-arranged in a single piece of headgear worn by said person.

9. The method of claim 1 further comprising:

delivering, via the low threshold transcranial magnetic stimulation, subthreshold polarization; and

obtaining deep brain source penetration therewith.

10. The method of claim 1, wherein the conducting of non-invasive measurement can be performed using a plurality of stimulation types, the method further comprising:

sending non-invasive brain stimulation using one or more of the plurality of stimulation types;

measuring electrophysiology factors;

interrupting the sending of the stimulation based on the electrophysiology factors; and

comparing the electrophysiology factors from the low threshold transcranial magnetic stimulation with the electrophysiology factors from the one or more plurality of stimulation types.

11. The method of claim 10 further comprising:

selecting at least one of;

one of the stimulation types and the low threshold transcranial magnetic stimulation based on the comparing; and

applying the selected stimulation to the brain of the person.

12. The method of claim 10 wherein the one or more non-invasive brain stimulation includes transcranial direct current stimulation, transcranial alternating current stimulation and transcranial random noise stimulation, and wherein the electrophysiology factors include at least one of:

electroencephalography and event related potentials.

13. A joint brain electro-analysis and transcranial current stimulation (tCS) system comprising:

a plurality of spaced-apart removable and replaceable electrodes or electrode boots arranged in a piece of headgear;

an electroencephalography device wired to each of said electrodes; and

a low threshold transcranial magnetic stimulation device wired to each of said electrodes for providing a low threshold transcranial magnetic stimulation to the brain.

14. The system of claim 13, further comprising an additional device for measuring physiological characteristics of a person wearing said piece of headgear.

15. The system of claim 14, wherein said transcranial direct current stimulation device is engaged only when said additional physiological characteristic is out of range of a predefined allowable threshold.

16. The system of claim 13, wherein said at least one anode and said at least one cathode comprise a cluster of an electrode with a first polarity surrounded by at least three electrodes of a second polarity.

17. The system of claim 13, wherein said electroencephalography device and said transcranial direct current stimulation device are contained within a single housing and are operable with a single set of controls.

18. The system of claim 13, wherein the low threshold transcranial magnetic stimulation device sends the non-invasive brain stimulation for an extended duration or sequence at a frequency between 0.1 Hertz and 100,000 Hertz.

19. The system of claim 13, wherein the low threshold transcranial magnetic stimulation device sends subthreshold polarization and the electroencephalography device is operative to obtain deep brain source penetration.

20. The system of claim 13, wherein the transcranial current stimulation includes transcranial direct current stimulation, transcranial alternating current stimulation and transcranial random noise stimulation, and wherein the electro-analysis includes at least one of:

electroencephalography and event related potentials.
