1. A hybrid vehicle equipped with a power plant including an electric motor and an engine, said hybrid vehicle comprising:

  • a clutch configured to connect and disconnect the engine to and from a driving wheel and the electric motor in a way that enables power to be transmitted, the electric motor being configured to transmit power to the driving wheel;

    a throttle by wire system configured to link a throttle valve of the engine and an acceleration operator together; and

    a controller configured to control operation of the power plant, said controller comprising;

    a vehicle speed calculating unit configured to calculate a vehicle speed from the number of revolutions of the electric motor;

    a target engine speed determining unit configured to determine a target engine speed from the calculated vehicle speed in a case where the engine is started while the vehicle is in a state of being run by the electric motor;

    a start controlling unit configured to start the engine once the vehicle speed reaches a predetermined speed while the vehicle is in the state of being run by the electric motor, and thus to temporarily increase the engine speed in a way that makes the engine speed become larger than the determined target engine speed, and thereafter to make the engine speed become equal to the target engine speed by gradually decreasing the temporarily increased engine speed;

    a moving average calculating unit configured to detect the engine speed by use of an engine speed sensor, and to calculate a moving average value of the engine speed at intervals of a predetermined length of time;

    an inclination calculating unit configured to calculate an inclination representing a change in the engine speed with time from an increase and decrease in the moving average value; and

    a clutch controlling unit configured to control the connection and disconnection of the clutch,wherein the clutch controlling unit is configured to connect the clutch in a case where a difference between a current engine speed detected by the engine speed sensor and the target engine speed determined by the target engine speed determining unit is not greater than a first predetermined value, an absolute value of a difference between the current engine speed and the moving average value calculated by the moving average calculating unit is not greater than a second predetermined value which is used in a settling judgment, and where the inclination calculated by the inclination calculating unit takes on a value representing a decreasing trend.
