- monitoring a quality of a network communication between a transmitting device and a receiving device;
recording a video using a camera of the transmitting device;
increasing a block size of a first portion of a frame in the video based at least in part on the monitoring of the quality of the network communication to create a modified video where the first portion includes a larger block size than a second portion of the frame of the modified video, the increasing the block size to reduce an amount of data used to transmit the modified video to the receiving device using the network communication; and
transmitting the modified video from the transmitting device to the receiving device via the network communication.

Abstract
The techniques and systems described herein are directed, in part, to interactions between one or more mobile device applications, mobile device modems (or communication hardware), networks, and other devices. In some embodiments, a device may record a video using a camera. The device may then increase a block size of a first portion of a frame in the video to create a modified video where the first portion includes a larger block size than a second portion of the frame of the modified video. The increased block size may reduce an amount of data used to transmit the modified video to another device using the network communication.
