Abstract

Briefly, in accordance with one or more embodiments, a conventional physical downlink control channel (PDCCH) is transmitted in a first region of a physical downlink control channel structure utilized by a remote radio head that has been assigned a cell identifier that is common to one or more other remote radio heads within the cell, and an enhanced physical downlink control channel (ePDCCH) is transmitted in a second region of the physical downlink control channel structure.

Claims

1. An article of manufacture comprising a storage medium having instructions stored thereon that, if executed, result in:

transmitting a conventional physical downlink control channel (PDCCH) in a first region of a physical downlink control channel structure utilized by a remote radio head that has been assigned a cell identifier that is common to one or more other remote radio heads, or base station, or combinations thereof, within the cell; and

transmitting an enhanced physical downlink control channel (ePDCCH) in a second region of the physical downlink control channel structure.

2. An article of manufacture as claimed in claim 1, wherein the instructions, if executed, further result in modulating the conventional physical downlink control channel with a common scrambling code for said transmitting the conventional physical downlink control channel.

3. An article of manufacture as claimed in claim 2, wherein the common scrambling code is common to multiple remote radio heads, or base station, or combinations thereof, within the cell.

4. An article of manufacture as claimed in claim 1, wherein the instructions, if executed, further result in modulating demodulation reference signals with a specific scrambling sequence for said transmitting the enhanced physical downlink control channel.

5. An article of manufacture as claimed in claim 4, wherein the specific scrambling code is specific to one or more remote radio heads, or a base station, or combinations thereof.

6. An article of manufacture as claimed in claim 4, wherein the specific scrambling code is specific to one or more user equipment.

7. An article of manufacture as claimed in claim 1, wherein the instructions, if executed, further result in:

spatially precoding the demodulation reference signals prior to said modulating; and

spatially precoding the enhanced physical downlink channel;

wherein spatial precoding of demodulation reference signals is substantially similar to the spatial precoding of the enhanced physical downlink channel.

9. An article of manufacture comprising a storage medium having instructions stored thereon that, if executed, result in:

transmitting a conventional physical hybrid automatic repeat request indicator channel (PHICH) in a first region of a physical downlink control channel structure utilized by a remote radio head that has been assigned a cell identifier that is common to one or more other remote radio heads, or base station, or combinations thereof, within the cell; and

transmitting an enhanced physical hybrid automatic repeat request indicator channel (ePHICH) in a second region of the physical downlink control channel structure.

An article of manufacture as claimed in claim 9, wherein the instructions, if executed, further result in modulating the conventional physical hybrid automatic repeat request indicator channel using a common scrambling code for said transmitting a conventional physical hybrid automatic repeat request indicator channel.

11. An article of manufacture as claimed in claim 10, wherein the common scrambling code is common to multiple remote radio heads, or a base station, or combinations thereof, within the cell.

An article of manufacture as claimed in claim 9, wherein the instructions, if executed, further result in modulating enhanced physical hybrid automatic repeat request indicator channel signals with a specific scrambling sequence for said transmitting the enhanced physical downlink control channel.

13. An article of manufacture as claimed in claim 12, wherein the specific scrambling sequence is specific to a particular remote radio head.

14. An article of manufacture as claimed in claim 12, wherein the specific scrambling sequence is specific to a particular user equipment.

17. An article of manufacture comprising a storage medium having instructions stored thereon that, if executed, result in:

determining specific channel state information reference signals (CSI-RS) to be transmitted for channel measurements; and

transmitting the specific channel state information reference signal to a selected user equipment, wherein the specific channel state information reference signal is specific for a remote radio head that has been assigned a cell identifier that is common to one or more other remote radio heads, or a base station, or combinations thereof, within the cell.

18. An article of manufacture as claimed in claim 17, wherein said determining is based at least in part on one or more signals received by one or more remote radio heads, or a base station, or combinations thereof, from the user equipment.

19. An article of manufacture as claimed in claim 18, wherein the one or more signals comprise one or more reference signals.

20. An article of manufacture as claimed in claim 17, wherein said determining is based at least in part on one or more best CSI-RS pattern indexes fed back from the user equipment to the remote radio head.

21. An article of manufacture as claimed in claim 17, wherein the instructions, if executed, further result in receiving CSI-RS measurements specific by the remote radio head from the user equipment.

22. An information handling system, comprising:

a baseband processor coupled to one or more wireless transceivers, wherein the baseband processor is configured to;

receive a set of channel state information reference signals (CSI-RS);

select one or more CSI-RS from the set;

transmit information about the selected CSI-RS to a central control entity; and

receive a CSI-RS configuration in response to transmitting the information about the selected CSI-RS.

23. An information handling system as claimed in claim 22, wherein the information about the selected CSI-RS comprises a best CSI-RS index.

24. An information handling system as claimed in claim 22, wherein the instructions if executed further result in:

measuring a path loss based at least in part on the received CSI-RS;

calculating a power adjustment based at least in part on the measured path loss; and

applying an uplink power setting based at least in part on the power adjustment.

25. An information handling system as claimed in claim 22, further comprising an applications processor coupled to the baseband processor, and a touch screen to receive an input to control the applications processor.

26. An information handling system, comprising:

a baseband processor coupled to one or more wireless transceivers, wherein the baseband processor is configured to;

receive a conventional physical downlink control channel (PDCCH) in a first region of a physical downlink control channel structure utilized by a remote radio head that has been assigned a cell identifier that is common to one or more other remote radio heads within the cell; and

receive an enhanced physical downlink control channel (ePDCCH) in a second region of the physical downlink control channel structure.

27. An information handling system as claimed in claim 26, wherein baseband processor is further configured to demodulate the conventional physical downlink control channel with a common scrambling code used for transmitting the conventional physical downlink control channel.

28. An information handling system as claimed in claim 27, wherein the common scrambling code is common to multiple remote radio heads, or a base station, or combinations thereof, within the cell.

29. An information handling system as claimed in claim 26, wherein the baseband processor is further configured to demodulate demodulation reference signals with a specific scrambling sequence used for transmitting the demodulation reference signals.

30. An information handling system as claimed in claim 29, wherein the specific scrambling code is specific to a one or more particular remote radio heads, or a base station, or combinations thereof.

31. An information handling system as claimed in claim 29, wherein the specific scrambling code is specific to one or more particular user equipment.

32. An information handling system as claimed in claim 26, wherein the baseband processor is further configured to spatially decode the demodulation reference signals.

34. An information handling system as claimed in claim 26, further comprising an applications processor coupled to the baseband processor, and a touch screen to receive an input to control the applications processor.
