Abstract

An implant delivery system can be configured to deliver an inflatable implant into a bladder via a urethra. The delivery system can comprise an elongate tubular body, an inflation tube and an implant decoupler. The tubular body can comprise a central lumen configured to hold an inflatable implant in an initial un-inflated state for delivery of the implant into the bladder. A method of use can include passing a distal tip of the elongate tubular body into the bladder. The implant can be inflated and released into the bladder.

Claims

1. An implant delivery system configured to deliver an inflatable implant into a bladder via a urethra, the delivery system comprising:

an elongate tubular body sized to pass through a urethra into a bladder, the tubular body comprising;

a central lumen configured to hold an inflatable implant in an initial un-inflated state for delivery of the implant into the bladder; and

a lateral opening operable to deliver the inflatable implant from the central lumen into the bladder away from a wall of the bladder;

an inflation tube positioned within the central lumen of the tubular body, the inflation tube configured to couple with the inflatable implant to allow inflation of the inflatable implant from within the tubular body; and

an implant decoupler positioned within the central lumen of the tubular body around the inflation tube, the implant decoupler configured to decouple the inflatable implant from the inflation tube after inflation of the inflatable implant from the un-inflated state to an inflated state.

2. The implant delivery system of claim 1, further comprising a syringe in fluid communication with the inflation tube.

3. The implant delivery system of claim 2, further comprising a quantity of gas within the syringe.

4. The implant delivery system of claim 3, further comprising a quantity of liquid within the syringe.

5. The implant delivery system of claim 4, wherein the liquid is at least one of a high vapor pressure medium and a therapeutic agent.

6. The implant delivery system of claim 5, wherein the high vapor pressure medium is a mixture of one or more PFCs.

7. The implant delivery system of claim 1, further comprising the inflatable implant.

8. The implant delivery system of claim 7, wherein when in the initial un-inflated state within the central lumen, the inflatable implant is compressed, folded and coupled to the inflation tube.

9. The implant delivery system of claim 1, further comprising at least one of a flap, door or retractable cover configured to be positioned over the lateral opening.

10. The implant delivery system of claim 1, further comprising a depth stop configured to provide visual and/or tactile feedback of when the lateral opening in the elongate tubular body is within the bladder.

11. A method of delivering an inflatable implant into a bladder via a urethra comprising:

inserting an elongate tubular body of a delivery device within a urethra, the elongate tubular body comprising a central lumen holding an inflatable implant in an initial un-inflated state for delivery of the implant into a bladder;

passing a distal tip of the elongate tubular body into the bladder;

inflating the implant and thereby advancing the implant from within the central lumen to outside of the central lumen and into the bladder;

disengaging the inflatable implant within the bladder from said delivery device; and

removing the delivery device from the bladder.

12. The method of claim 11, wherein inflating the implant further comprises expanding the implant out of a lateral opening of the elongate tubular body.

13. The method of claim 12, wherein expanding further comprises expanding the implant out of the lateral opening in a direction substantially opposite to that of a trigone of the bladder.

14. The method of claim 12, wherein expanding further comprises expanding the implant out of the lateral opening in a direction towards a dome of the bladder.

15. The method of claim 12, wherein expanding further comprises opening a flap covering the aperture.

16. The method of claim 11, further comprising removing a covering over the aperture.

17. The method of claim 11, further comprising identifying a trigone of the bladder.

18. The method of claim 11, wherein inflating the implant further comprises injecting at least one of a liquid and a gas into the implant.

19. The method of claim 18, wherein the liquid injected into the implant comprises at least one of a high vapor pressure medium and a therapeutic agent.

20. The method of claim 18, wherein inflating the implant further comprises injecting gas into the implant after injecting liquid.

21. The method of claim 11, wherein passing the distal tip further comprises passing the distal tip of the elongate tubular body into the bladder until there is at least one of visual and tactile feedback that the distal tip is within the bladder.
