Abstract

A solid-state linear lamp comprises a co-extruded component, the co-extruded component comprising an elongate lens and a layer of photoluminescent material. The elongate lens is for shaping light emitted from the lamp and comprises an elongate interior cavity. The layer of a photoluminescent material is located on an interior wall of the elongate interior cavity. The lamp further comprises an array of solid-state light emitters configured to emit light into the elongate interior cavity.

Claims

1. A lamp comprising:

a co-extruded component, the co-extruded component comprising an elongate lens and a layer of photoluminescent material, wherein the elongate lens and the layer of photoluminescent material are co-extruded together to form the co-extruded component;

the elongate lens for shaping light emitted from the lamp, wherein the elongate lens comprises an elongate interior cavity;

the layer of a photoluminescent material on an interior wall of the elongate interior cavity; and

an array of solid-state light emitters configured to emit light into the elongate interior cavity.

2. The lamp of claim 1, wherein the lens corresponds to a curved exterior wall.

3. The lamp of claim 2, wherein the curved exterior wall comprises a generally semicircular cross-sectional profile.

4. The lamp of claim 1, wherein the interior wall of the elongate interior cavity corresponds to generally curved interior walls.

5. The lamp of claim 4, wherein the layer of the photoluminescent material comprises a generally conical cross-sectional profile.

6. The lamp of claim 4, wherein the layer of the photoluminescent material comprises a generally semi-circular or dome-shaped cross-sectional profile.

7. The lamp of claim 1, wherein the lens comprises a slot to fit a circuit board having the linear array of solid-state light emitters.

8. The lamp of claim 1, further comprising a diffusing material.

9. The lamp of claim 8, wherein the diffusing material comprises an exterior layer of material on the lens.

10. The lamp of claim 8, wherein the diffusing material is within the lens or the layer of the photoluminescent material.

11. The lamp of claim 1, further comprising a reflector comprising a reflective surface to reflect light emitted through the lens.

12. The lamp of claim 11, wherein the reflector is co-extruded with the elongate lens and the layer of photoluminescent material.

13. The lamp of claim 11, in which the reflector, the elongate lens, and the layer of a photoluminescent material are integrally formed as a multi-layered optic component.

14. The lamp of claim 1, further comprising an end cap affixed to an end of the lens.

15. The lamp of claim 1, further comprising an optical medium within the cavity.

16. The lamp of claim 15, wherein the optical medium is co-extruded with the elongate lens and the layer of photoluminescent material.

17. The lamp of claim 1, wherein the light emitted from the lamp is shaped by being focused.

18. A method of fabricating an optical component, comprising co-extruding an elongated solid body having a wavelength conversion layer and an optical component layer, the wavelength conversion layer in contact with the optical component layer.

19. The method of claim 18, in which multiple separate extruders are employed to extrude materials of the wavelength conversion layer and the optical component layer.

20. The method of claim 19, in which the materials operated upon by the extruders include at least one of PC-Polycarbonate, PMMA-Poly(methyl methacrylate), PET-Polyethylene Terephthalate, and thermoform plastics.

21. The method of claim 18, and further comprising co-extruding a light diffusive portion.

22. The method of claim 18, in which the optical component layer is formed as a curved shape.

23. The method of claim 18, in which the optical component layer is a lens.

24. The method of claim 18, further comprising performing an in-line process control to control deposition of materials for the wavelength conversion layer.

25. The method of claim 24, in which color measurement is performed for the in-line process control.
