1. A computer-implemented method for source authentication of an item comprising:
- receiving a unique item identifier uniquely distinguishing a particular item from any plurality of items, at a computing device;
receiving a payment amount at said computing device corresponding to said item;
receiving electronic payment instructions at said computing device corresponding to said payment amount;
preparing an authorization request message at said computing device comprising said item identifier;
said payment amount information and said payment instructions;
sending said authorization request message from said computing device to at least one authorization server;
completing a transaction if a response message to said authorization request message from said at least one authorization server includes an authorization indication, wherein said authorization indication represents that said item is authorized and said payment instructions are authorized.
