Abstract

Embodiments of the invention are related to systems and methods for a docking station that wirelessly connects to a mobile device, facilitates charging the mobile device, and enables the mobile device to interact with a virtual desktop infrastructure.

Claims

1. A docking station for facilitating simultaneous use of multiple electronic devices, the docking station comprising:

a wireless communication interface allowing a mobile device having video capabilities to communicate wirelessly with the docking station;

at least one connection interface for connecting an audio device to the docking station; and

at least one processor for facilitating the connection of the mobile device having video capabilities to the docking station and the connection of the audio device to the mobile device having video capabilities.

2. The docking station of claim 1, wherein the wireless communication interface supports cellular radio connections, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and near field communication.

3. The docking station of claim 2, wherein the audio device is a telephone.

4. The docking station of claim 3, wherein the at least one processor enhances the functionality of the telephone by incorporating video signals from the mobile device to enable video conferencing.

5. A method for connecting an audio device with a mobile device having video capability, the method comprising:

providing a wireless communication interface allowing a mobile device having video capabilities to communicate wirelessly with a docking station;

connecting an audio device to the docking station using at least one connection interface; and

utilizing at least one processor for facilitating the connection of the mobile device having video capabilities to the docking station and the connection of the audio device to the mobile device having video capabilities.

6. The method of claim 5, wherein providing a wireless communication interface supports cellular radio connections, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and near field communication.

7. The method of claim 6, wherein the audio device is a telephone.

8. The method of claim 7, wherein the at least one processor enhances the functionality of the telephone by incorporating video signals from the mobile device to enable video conferencing.

9. A docking station for facilitating simultaneous use of multiple electronic devices, the docking station comprising:

a wireless communication interface allowing a mobile device having video capabilities to communicate wirelessly with the docking station, wherein the wireless communication interface supports cellular radio connections, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and near field communication.

at least one connection interface for connecting an audio device to the docking station, wherein the audio device is a telephone; and

at least one processor for facilitating the connection of the mobile device having video capabilities to the docking station and the connection of the audio device to the mobile device having video capabilities, wherein the at least one processor enhances the functionality of the telephone by incorporating video signals from the mobile device to enable video conferencing.

10. A method for enhancing functionality of a telephone connected to a fixed phone line, the method comprising:

providing a wireless connection integral to the telephone allowing the telephone to connect wirelessly with a mobile video device;

establishing the wireless connection between the telephone and the mobile video device; and

combining the video functionality of the mobile video device with the audio functionality of the telephone implementing a computer processor integral with the telephone, thereby providing video conferencing capability to the telephone connected to the fixed phone line.

11. The method of claim 10, further comprising providing an inductive surface for charging the mobile video device.

12. The method of claim 10, further comprising authenticating the mobile video device.

13. The method of claim 12 wherein the step of establishing the connection includes using cellular radio, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, or near field communication.

14. The method of claim 13 further comprising providing a selection interface for selecting a primary mobile video device to wirelessly connect to the telephone.

15. A system enabling video conferencing, the system comprising:

a telephone connected to a fixed phone line, the telephone including audio features and a wireless connector allowing connection of the telephone to at least one wireless device and at least one processor for facilitating the connection; and

a mobile video device for connection with the telephone through the wireless connector, wherein, when connected to the mobile video device, the telephone functions as a video conferencing telephone.

16. The system of claim 15, wherein the telephone provides an inductive surface for charging the mobile video device.

17. The system of claim 15 further comprising an authentication interface for authenticating the mobile video device.

18. The system of claim 17, wherein the wireless connector utilizes cellular radio, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, or near field communication.

19. The system of claim 18 further comprising a selection interface for selecting a primary mobile video device to wirelessly connect to the telephone.

20. A method for enhancing functionality of a telephone connected to a fixed phone line, the method comprising:

providing a wireless connection integral to the telephone allowing the telephone to connect wirelessly with a mobile video device;

providing an inductive surface for charging the mobile video device;

authenticating the mobile video device;

providing a selection interface for selecting a primary mobile video device to wirelessly connect to the telephone;

establishing the wireless connection between the telephone and the primary mobile video device using cellular radio, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, or near field communication; and

combining the video functionality of the primary mobile video device with the audio functionality of the telephone implementing a computer processor integral with the telephone, thereby providing video conferencing capability to the telephone connected to the fixed phone line.
