Abstract

Systems, methods, and instrumentalities are provided to determine routing associated with a short message. A SMS-SC may send a first routing request to a home subscriber server (HSS). The first routing request may be associated with the short message. The SMS-SC may receive a first routing reply. The first routing reply may include one of an indication that the short message is associated with a service capability server (SCS) or a first control plane routing associated with the short message. The SMS-SC may send the short message to an SCS serving node. The first routing reply may include the indication that the short message is associated with a service capability server (SCS). The SMS-SC may send a second routing request to a SCS subscription database. The SMS-SC may receive a second routing reply from the SCS subscription database, which may indicate a second control plane routing for the short message.

Claims

1. A method of determining a routing associated with a short message, the method comprising:

sending a first routing request to a home subscriber server (HSS), wherein the first routing request is associated with the short message;

receiving a first routing reply, wherein the first routing reply comprises one of an indication that the short message is associated with a service capability server (SCS) or a first control plane routing associated with the short message; and

sending the short message to an SCS serving node.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein the first control plane routing comprises the SCS serving node.

3. The method of claim 1, further comprising receiving a delivery report, wherein the delivery report indicates delivery of the short message.

4. The method of claim 1, wherein the first control plane routing comprises an SCS serving node address.

5. The method of claim 4, wherein the SCS serving node address comprises a MTC-IWF address.

6. The method of claim 1, wherein when the first routing reply comprises the indication, the method further comprises:

sending a second routing request to a SCS subscription database, wherein the second routing request is associated with the short message; and

receiving a second routing reply from the SCS subscription database, wherein the second routing reply indicates a second control plane routing for the short message, wherein the second control plane routing comprises identification of the SCS serving node.

7. The method of claim 6, wherein the second routing reply comprises a primary machine type communication inter-working function (MTC-IWF) field, a gateway address field, a preferred application protocol field, or a short message container field.

8. The method of claim 1, wherein the SCS serving node is a machine type communication inter-working function (MTC-IWF) node.

9. The method of claim 1, wherein the first routing request to the HSS is forwarded over a MAP-C interface or a diameter interface.

10. The method of claim 1, wherein the first routing request comprises a machine type communication (MTC) node indicator.

11. The method of claim 1, wherein the short message is a short message service (SMS) message.

12. An SMS service center (SMS-SC) configured to determine a routing associated with a short message, the SMS-SC comprising:

a processor configured to;

send a first routing request to a home subscriber server (HSS), wherein the first routing request is associated with the short message;

receive a first routing reply, wherein the first routing reply comprises one of an indication that the short message is associated with a service capability server (SCS) or a first control plane routing associated with the short message; and

send the short message to an SCS serving node.

13. The SMS-SC of claim 12, wherein the first control plane routing comprises the SCS serving node.

14. The SMS-SC of claim 12, wherein the processor is further programmed to receive a delivery report, wherein the delivery report indicates delivery of the short message.

15. The SMS-SC of claim 12, wherein the first control plane routing comprises an SCS serving node address.

16. The SMS-SC of claim 15, wherein the SCS serving node address comprises a MTC-IWF address.

17. The SMS-SC of claim 12, wherein when the first routing reply comprises the indication and wherein the processor is further programmed to:

send a second routing request to a SCS subscription database, wherein the second routing request is associated with the short message; and

receive a second routing reply from the SCS subscription database, wherein the second routing reply indicates a second control plane routing for the short message, wherein the second control plane routing comprises identification of the SCS serving node.

18. The SMS-SC of claim 17, wherein the second routing reply comprises a primary machine type communication inter-working function (MTC-IWF) field, a gateway address field, a preferred application protocol field, or a short message container field.

19. The SMS-SC of claim 12, wherein the SCS serving node is a machine type communication inter-working function (MTC-IWF) node.

20. The SMS-SC of claim 12, wherein the first routing request to the HSS is forwarded over a MAP-C interface or a diameter interface.

21. The SMS-SC of claim 12, wherein the first routing request comprises a machine type communication (MTC) node indicator.

22. The SMS-SC of claim 12, wherein the short message is a short message service (SMS) message.
