Abstract

In one embodiment, a directive is received at a computer system. The directive is to send to social network contacts of a sharer user, via a web application, processing information relating to print or scan jobs associated with the sharer user. Data is received, the data indicative of first processing of a print or scan job associated with the sharer user. A notice of the first processing is sent to a first social network contact of the sharer user via the web application.

Claims

1. A system, comprising a memory and a processor to execute instructions stored in the memory to implement modules, the modules comprising:

a directive module, configured to receive at a computer system a directive to send to social network contacts of a sharer user, via a web application, processing information relating to print or scan jobs associated with the sharer user;

a processing status module, configured to receive data indicative of first processing of a print or scan job associated with the sharer user; and

a sharing module, configured to send a notice of the first processing to a first social network contact of the sharer user via the web application.

2. The system of claim 1, wherein the job is a print job.

3. The system of claim 1, wherein the job is a scan job.

4. The system of claim 1, wherein the sharing module is configured to responsive to receipt, via the web application, of a request from the first contact to print the job, send the job to a computing device associated with the first contact.

5. The system of claim 4, wherein the computing device is a network connected printer.

6. The system of claim 1, wherein the web application is a printer application.

7. The system of claim 1, wherein the web application as viewable by the first social network contact also displays process status of jobs being printed or scanned by other social network contacts of the first contact.

8. The system of claim 2, wherein the first processing is printing of the print job at a printer associated with the sharer user, or rasterizing of the job occurring at the computer system.

9. The system of claim 1, wherein the sharing module is configured to restrict sending processing information to a restricted contact set if a job is of a specified security type.

10. The system of claim 1, wherein the data is received from a network-connected printer.

11. The system of claim 1,

wherein the computer system is a first computer system;

wherein the web application is a social network application hosted by a second computer system; and

further comprising a social network permissions module, configured to access a social network credentials database that stores access credentials for social networks of which the sharer user is a member, and to provide a first credential to a first social network service via the web application.

12. The system of claim 11, wherein the sharing module is configured to responsive to receipt, via the web application, of a request from the first contact to print the job, send the job, via the web application, to a computing device associated with the first contact.

13. The system of claim 12, wherein the request is received from the first contact via a graphic user interface that is made available to the first contact after an sharing invitation and acceptance transaction between the first contact and the graphic user via the web application.

14. The system of claim 11, further comprising an archival module, configured to store the print or scan job in a job store database, and to enable authorized social network contacts of the sharer user to browse or search the job store database for jobs to print.

15. The system of claim 14, wherein the archival module is configured to rank the stored jobs based upon criteria received from an authorized social network contact.

16. A non-transitory computer-readable storage medium containing instructions, the instructions when executed by a processor causing the processor to:

receive at a computer system a directive to send to social network contacts of a sharer user, via a web application, processing information relating to print jobs associated with the sharer user;

receive data indicative of first processing of a print job associated with the sharer user; and

send a notification of the first processing to a first social network contact of the sharer user via the web application.

17. The medium of claim 16, responsive to receipt, via the web application, of a request from the first contact to print the print job, send the print job to a network-connected printer associated with the first contact.

18. The medium of claim 16, wherein the web application additionally provides a service for users to register network-connected printers to a cloud print service hosted by the computer system.

19. A non-transitory computer-readable storage medium containing instructions, the instructions when executed by a processor causing the processor to:

receive at a computer system a directive to send to social network contacts of a sharer user, via a web application, processing information relating to scan jobs associated with the sharer user;

receive data indicative of first processing of a scan job associated with the sharer user; and

send a notification of the first processing to a first social network contact of the sharer user via the web application.

20. The medium of claim 19, responsive to receipt, via the web application, of a request from the first contact to print the scan job, send the scan job to a computing device associated with the first contact.
