Abstract

A method and apparatus for enabling scheduling and control of direct link communication in a cellular communication system may be disclosed. A method for use in a first wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU) may include transmitting a request for device-to-device (D2D) communication resources to an enhanced Node B (eNB). The first WTRU may receive an allocation of resources for multiple transmission time intervals (TTI) to be used for D2D communications from the eNB. The first WTRU may schedule D2D communications with a second WTRU to be performed during the allocated resources. The first WTRU may perform D2D communications with the second WTRU using half duplex communications during the allocated resources.

Claims

1. A method for use in a first wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU), the method comprising:

transmitting a request for device-to-device (D2D) communication resources to an enhanced Node B (eNB);

receiving an allocation of resources for multiple transmission time intervals (TTI) to be used for D2D communications from the eNB;

scheduling D2D communications with a second WTRU to be performed during the allocated resources; and

performing D2D communications with the second WTRU using half duplex communications during the allocated resources.

2. The method as in claim 1, wherein the scheduling D2D communications with the second WTRU includes the first WTRU transmitting a D2D control message to the second WTRU.

3. The method as in claim 2, wherein the D2D control message includes all transmission parameters to be used by the second WTRU.

4. The method as in claim 1, wherein the request for D2D communication resources is a D2D specific buffer status report.

5. The method as in claim 1, wherein the WTRU is configured with one Hybrid Automatic Repeat Request (HARQ) entity per D2D link.

6. The method as in claim 5, wherein the WTRU has a fixed number of uplink (UL) HARQ processes for the HARQ entity.

7. The method in claim 6, wherein the UL HARQ process is asynchronous.

8. The method as in claim 6, wherein the UL HARQ process is synchronous.

9. The method as in claim 5, wherein the WTRU has a fixed number of downlink HARQ processes for the HARQ entity.

10. A first wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU) comprising:

a transmitter configured to transmit a request for device-to-device (D2D) communication resources to an enhanced Node B (eNB);

a receiver configured to receive an allocation of resources for multiple transmission time intervals (TTI) to be used for D2D communications from the eNB;

a processor configured to schedule D2D communications with a second WTRU to be performed during the allocated resources; and

the processor further configured to perform D2D communications with the second WTRU using half duplex communications during the allocated resources.

11. The first WTRU of claim 10, wherein the scheduling D2D communications with the second WTRU includes the first WTRU transmitting a D2D control message to the second WTRU.

12. The first WTRU of claim 10, wherein the D2D control message includes all transmission parameters to be used by the second WTRU.

13. The first WTRU of claim 10, wherein the request for D2D communication resources is a D2D specific buffer status report.

14. The first WTRU of claim 10, wherein the WTRU is configured with one Hybrid Automatic Repeat Request (HARQ) entity per D2D link.

15. The first WTRU of claim 14, wherein the WTRU has a fixed number of uplink (UL) HARQ processes for the HARQ entity.

16. The first WTRU of claim 15, wherein the UL HARQ process is asynchronous.

17. The first WTRU of claim 15, wherein the UL HARQ process is synchronous.

18. The first WTRU of claim 14, wherein the WTRU has a fixed number of downlink HARQ processes for the HARQ entity.

19. A method for use in a first wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU), the method comprising:

allocating resources for device-to-device (D2D) transmission to a second WTRU;

indexing the allocated resources; and

transmitting control signaling to the second WTRU to activate the allocated resources.

20. The method of claim 19, wherein the control signaling deactivates the allocated resources.
