Abstract

Embodiments of the present invention provide secondary content that is synchronized to progress within a primary media content. The secondary content, may be a comment, an emote, a poll, a contextual advertisement, a special feature, or other communication synchronized to a particular point in the media. Examples of media include movies, games, television shows, sporting events, video conferences, online chat sessions, and others. Some events are synchronized using time sequencing to a particular spot within a time-based media content. The events may be published through social media outlets. The progress point associated with the event may be directly accessed by selecting a link within the event.

Claims

1. A method of synchronizing social comments with a media content, the method comprising:

receiving a social comment from a user at a first point in time;

determining state information for a media content the user is viewing at the first point in time; and

associating the social comment with the state information.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein associating the social comment with the state information comprises inserting a link to the media content into the social comment, the link to at a point in the media content derived from the state information.

3. The method of claim 2, wherein the method further comprises publishing the social comment to a social media site with the link inserted in the social comment.

4. The method of claim 3, wherein the method further comprises:

in response to a different user selecting the link in the social comment, presenting the media content at a second point in time that is different than the first point in time at a progress point within the media content that is derived from the state information.

5. The method of claim 1, wherein the media content is a video and the state information is a progress point within the video.

6. The method of claim 1, wherein the media content is a video game and the state information is a game level.

7. The method of claim 1, wherein the method further comprises automatically presenting the social comment to a second user upon the second user reaching a progress point in the media content indicated in the state information.

8. One or more computer-storage media having one or more computer executable instructions that when executed by a computing device perform a method of synchronizing media content with secondary content, the method comprising;

communicating a first media content to a user; and

presenting an indication that secondary content that is from a user'"'"'s social network and that is synchronized to the first media content is available for display.

9. The media of claim 8, wherein the method further comprises automatically displaying the secondary content when the first media content reaches a progress point to which the secondary content is synchronized.

10. The media of claim 8, wherein the method further comprises consolidating multiple social comments synchronized to within a threshold amount of progress from each other into a summary indication.

11. The media of claim 8, wherein the secondary content is an emote that indicates a feeling.

12. The media of claim 8, wherein the indication is located in a progress bar for the first media content.

13. The media of claim 12, wherein the secondary content associated with the indication is presented upon interacting with the indication.

14. The media of claim 8, wherein the first media content is output for display by a primary device and the indication is output as part of an interface that is presented on a companion device.

15. A method of synchronizing media content with secondary content, the method comprising;

determining that a person is viewing a media content through a first interface;

determining a plurality of friends within one or more of the person'"'"'s social networks;

retrieving social posts the person'"'"'s social networks that are associated with the plurality of friends and that are synchronized to progress points within the media content; and

presenting an indication on a second interface that the social posts are available for display.

16. The method of claim 15, wherein the method further comprises automatically displaying a social post when the media content reaches a progress point to which the social post is synchronized.

17. The method of claim 15, wherein the method further comprises consolidating multiple social posts into a summary indication when the social posts are synchronized to within a threshold amount of a progress point.

18. The method of claim 17, wherein the multiple social posts are emotes that indicates a feeling.

19. The method of claim 15, wherein the media content is a video game and the progress points are locations within the video game.

20. The method of claim 15, wherein the social posts comprise links that identify progress points within the media content.
