Abstract

Methods and apparatus for delivering content may include receiving a direction of travel for a wireless device and selecting a route of travel for the wireless device that proceeds in the given direction to maximize an amount of contact with one or more access terminals capable of providing data connectivity. In addition, the methods and apparatus may include providing content to the wireless device via the data connectivity provided by the one or more access terminals along the selected route of travel.

Claims

1. A method for delivering content, comprising:

receiving a destination for a wireless device;

determining a location of one or more access terminals for providing data connectivity between a current location of the wireless device and the received destination;

selecting one or more routes of travel for the wireless device to the destination based upon the determination; and

sending a notification message to the one or more access terminals along the selected route of travel to provide content to the wireless device via the data connectivity provided by the one or more access terminals.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein receiving the destination comprises receiving the destination from a navigation system associated with the wireless device.

3. The method of claim 2, wherein the navigation system is one of a vehicle navigation system or a navigation system application on the wireless device.

4. The method of claim 1, wherein selecting the one or more routes of travel is further based upon receiving a request for content from the wireless device.

5. The method of claim 1, wherein selecting the one or more routes of travel further comprises:

determining a route of travel that maximizes an amount of contact with the one or more access terminals.

6. The method of claim 5, wherein the one or more access terminals are associated with a particular content provider.

7. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

updating the selected route of travel based upon one or more of traffic information, a current speed of the wireless device, weather information, or navigation information from a navigation system associated with the wireless device.

8. The method of claim 7, wherein updating the selected route of travel further comprises:

predicting the route of travel based upon an input received from a sensor indicating a change of direction for the wireless device.

9. The method of claim 8, wherein the input comprises one of a speed of travel or a degree of a turn.

10. The method of claim 1, wherein providing the content to the wireless device further comprises:

predicting a time period the wireless device will be near a first access terminal on the selected route of travel; and

sending the first access terminal a first amount of content based upon the prediction to provide to the wireless device when the wireless device is near the first access terminal.

11. The method of claim 10, wherein predicting the time period the wireless device will be near the first access terminal is based upon one or more of traffic information, a current speed of the wireless device, weather information, or navigation information from a navigation system associated with the wireless device.

12. The method of claim 10, further comprising:

notifying a second access terminal on the selected route of travel a second amount of time the wireless device will be near the second access terminal on the selected route of travel based upon the prediction;

sending the second access terminal a second amount of content based upon the prediction to provide to the wireless device when the wireless device is near the second access terminal on the selected route of travel.

13. The method of claim 12, wherein the first amount of content and the second amount of content have a portion of content that overlaps.

14. The method of claim 12, further comprising:

deactivating the first access terminal when the second access terminal starts to provide the second amount of content to the wireless device.

15. The method of claim 1, wherein the content comprises one or more of video, text, music, audio, or voice.

16. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

determining a direction of travel for the wireless device via a Controller Area Network Bus (CANBUS) system on a vehicle associated with the wireless device.

17. At least one processor configured for delivering content, comprising:

a first module for receiving a destination for a wireless device;

a second module for determining a location of one or more access terminals for providing data connectivity between a current location of the wireless device and the received destination;

a third module for selecting one or more routes of travel for the wireless device to the destination based upon the determination; and

a fourth module for sending a notification message to the one or more access terminals along the selected route of travel to provide content to the wireless device via the data connectivity provided by the one or more access terminals.

18. A computer program product, comprising:

a computer-readable medium comprising;

at least one instruction for causing a computer to receive a destination for a wireless device;

at least one instruction for causing the computer to determine a location of one or more access terminals for providing data connectivity between a current location of the wireless device and the received destination;

at least one instruction for causing the computer to select one or more routes of travel for the wireless device to the destination based upon the determination; and

at least one instruction for causing the computer to send a notification message to the one or more access terminals along the selected route of travel to provide content to the wireless device via the data connectivity provided by the one or more access terminals.

19. An apparatus, comprising:

means for receiving a destination for a wireless device;

means for determining a location of one or more access terminals for providing data connectivity between a current location of the wireless device and the received destination;

means for selecting one or more routes of travel for the wireless device to the destination based upon the determination; and

means for sending a notification message to the one or more access terminals along the selected route of travel to provide content to the wireless device via the data connectivity provided by the one or more access terminals.

20. An apparatus for delivering content, comprising:

a receiving component operable to receive a destination for a wireless device;

a route manger component operable to determine a location of one or more access terminals for providing data connectivity between a current location of the wireless device and the received destination and select one or more routes of travel for the wireless device to the destination based upon the determination; and

a content delivery manager component operable to send a notification message to the one or more access terminals along the selected route of travel to provide content to the wireless device via the data connectivity provided by the one or more access terminals.

21. The apparatus of claim 20, wherein the receiving component receives the destination from a navigation system associated with the wireless device.

22. The apparatus of claim 21, wherein the navigation system is one of a vehicle navigation system or a navigation system application on the wireless device.

23. The apparatus of claim 20, wherein the route manger component is further operable to select the one or more routes of travel based upon receiving a request for content from the wireless device.

24. The apparatus of claim 20, wherein the route manger component is further operable to select the one or more routes of travel by determining a route of travel that maximizes an amount of contact with the one or more access terminals.

25. The apparatus of claim 24, wherein the one or more access terminals are associated with a particular content provider.

26. The apparatus of claim 20, wherein the route manger component is further operable to update the selected route of travel based upon one or more of traffic information, a current speed of the wireless device, weather information, or navigation information from a navigation system associated with the wireless device.

27. The apparatus of claim 26, wherein the route manger component is further operable to update the selected route of travel by predicting the route of travel based upon an input received from a sensor indicating a change of direction for the wireless device.

28. The apparatus of claim 27, wherein the input comprises one of a speed of travel or a degree of a turn.

29. The apparatus of claim 20, wherein the content delivery manager component is further operable to:

predict a time period the wireless device will be near a first access terminal on the selected route of travel; and

send the first access terminal a first amount of content based upon the prediction to provide to the wireless device when the wireless device is near the first access terminal.

30. The apparatus of claim 29, wherein predicting the time period the wireless device will be near the first access terminal is based upon one or more of traffic information, a current speed of the wireless device, weather information, or navigation information from a navigation system associated with the wireless device.

31. The apparatus of claim 29, wherein the content delivery manager component is further operable to:

notify a second access terminal on the selected route of travel a second amount of time the wireless device will be near the second access terminal on the selected route of travel based upon the prediction; and

send the second access terminal a second amount of content based upon the prediction to provide to the wireless device when the wireless device is near the second access terminal on the selected route of travel.

32. The apparatus of claim 31, wherein the first amount of content and the second amount of content have a portion of content that overlaps.

33. The apparatus of claim 31, the content delivery manager component is further operable to deactivate the first access terminal when the second access terminal starts to provide the second amount of content to the wireless device.

34. The apparatus of claim 20, wherein the content comprises one or more of video, text, music, audio, or voice.

35. The apparatus of claim 20, wherein the route manager component is further operable to determine a direction of travel for the wireless device via a Controller Area Network Bus (CANBUS) system on a vehicle associated with the wireless device.

36. A method for delivering content, comprising:

receiving a direction of travel for a wireless device;

selecting a route of travel for the wireless device that proceeds in the received direction to maximize an amount of contact with the one or more access terminals capable of providing data connectivity; and

providing content to the wireless device via the data connectivity provided by the one or more access terminals along the selected route of travel.

37. The method of claim 36, wherein the direction of travel is determined via a Controller Area Network Bus (CANBUS) system on a vehicle associated with the wireless device.

38. The method of claim 36, further comprising:

receiving a destination for the wireless device; and

determining a location of one or more access terminals for providing data connectivity between a current location of the wireless device and the received destination,

wherein selecting the route of travel further comprises selecting the one or more routes of travel for the wireless device to the destination based upon the determination.

39. The method of claim 38, wherein the determined location changes for the one or more access terminals.

40. The method of claim 38, wherein the determined location is static for the one or more access terminals.

41. At least one processor configured for delivering content, comprising:

a first module for receiving a direction of travel for a wireless device;

a second module for selecting a route of travel for the wireless device that proceeds in the received direction to maximize an amount of contact with one or more access terminals capable of providing data connectivity; and

a third module for providing content to the wireless device via the data connectivity provided by the one or more access terminals along the selected route of travel.

42. A computer program product, comprising:

a computer-readable medium comprising;

at least one instruction for causing a computer to receive a direction of travel for a wireless device;

at least one instruction for causing the computer to select a route of travel for the wireless device that proceeds in the received direction to maximize an amount of contact with one or more access terminals capable of providing data connectivity; and

at least one instruction for causing the computer to provide content to the wireless device via the data connectivity provided by the one or more access terminals along the selected route of travel.

43. An apparatus, comprising:

means for receiving a direction of travel for a wireless device;

means for selecting a route of travel for the wireless device that proceeds in the received direction to maximize an amount of contact with one or more access terminals capable of providing data connectivity; and

means for providing content to the wireless device via the data connectivity provided by the one or more access terminals along the selected route of travel.

44. An apparatus for delivering content, comprising:

a receiving component operable to receive a direction of travel for a wireless device;

a route manager component operable to select a route of travel for the wireless device that proceeds in the received direction to maximize an amount of contact with one or more access terminals capable of providing data connectivity; and

a content delivery manager component operable to provide content to the wireless device via the data connectivity provided by the one or more access terminals along the selected route of travel.

45. The apparatus of claim 44, wherein the direction of travel is determined via a Controller Area Network Bus (CANBUS) system on a vehicle associated with the wireless device.

46. The apparatus of claim 44, wherein the receiving component is further operable to receive a destination for the wireless device, and

further wherein the route manager component is operable to determine a location of the one or more access terminals for providing data connectivity between a current location of the wireless device and the received destination and select one or more routes of travel for the wireless device to the destination based upon the determination.

47. The apparatus of claim 46, wherein the determined location changes for the one or more access terminals.

48. The apparatus of claim 46, wherein the determined location is static for the one or more access terminals.

49. A method for delivering content, comprising:

receiving, at an access terminal, a request to transmit content to a wireless device; and

transmitting the content via a data connectivity provided by the access terminal.

50. The method of claim 49, wherein the request comprises the content.

51. The method of claim 49, wherein the request comprises a time period to provide the content to the wireless device.

52. The method of claim 51, wherein the time period is based on an estimated arrival time of the wireless device within a communication coverage area of the access terminal.

53. The method of claim 49, further comprising:

determining a parameter for sharing the content; and

applying the parameter for sharing the content to the transmitting of the content.

54. The method of claim 53, wherein the parameter for sharing includes requiring a payment in exchange for the content.

55. The method of claim 53, wherein the parameter for sharing includes specifying a degree of a relationship of a contact in relation to a user of the access terminal.

56. At least one processor configured for delivering content, comprising:

a first module for receiving, at an access terminal, a request to transmit content to a wireless device; and

a second module for transmitting the content via a data connectivity provided by the access terminal.

57. A computer program product, comprising:

a computer-readable medium comprising;

at least one instruction for causing a computer to receive, at an access terminal, a request to transmit content to a wireless device; and

at least one instruction for causing the computer to transmit the content via a data connectivity provided by the access terminal.

58. An apparatus, comprising:

means for receiving, at an access terminal, a request to transmit content to a wireless device; and

means for transmitting the content via a data connectivity provided by the access terminal.

59. An apparatus for delivering content, comprising:

a content delivery component operable to receive a request, at an access terminal, to transmit content to a wireless device and transmit the content via a data connectivity provided by the access terminal.

60. The apparatus of claim 59, wherein the request comprises the content.

61. The apparatus of claim 59, wherein the request comprises a time period to provide the content to the wireless device.

62. The apparatus of claim 61, wherein the time period is based on an estimated arrival time of the wireless device within a communication coverage area of the access terminal.

63. The apparatus of claim 59, further comprising:

a sharing component operable to determine a parameter for sharing the content,

wherein the content delivery component is further operable to apply the parameter for sharing the content to the transmitting of the content.

64. The apparatus of claim 63, wherein the parameter for sharing includes requiring a payment in exchange for the content.

65. The apparatus of claim 63, wherein the parameter for sharing includes specifying a degree of a relationship of a contact in relation to a user of the access terminal.

66. A method for receiving content, comprising:

selecting a destination to travel towards;

receiving a selected route of travel to the destination based upon a location of one or more access terminals that provide data connectivity between a current location and the selected destination;

navigating the selected route of travel to the destination; and

receiving content via the data connectivity provided by the one or more access terminals while navigating the selected route of travel.

67. The method of claim 66, further comprising:

selecting content to receive; and

sending a request for the content.

68. The method of claim 66, wherein selecting the destination comprises selecting the destination from a navigation system associated with the wireless device.

69. The method of claim 66, further comprising:

updating the selected route of travel based upon one or more of traffic information, a current speed of the wireless device, weather information, or navigation information from a navigation system associated with the wireless device.

70. The method of claim 66, further comprising:

receiving a notification that the selected route has changed.

71. The method of claim 70, wherein the notification comprises one or more of an alarm or a voice message.

72. At least one processor configured for receiving content, comprising:

a first module for selecting a destination to travel towards;

a second module for receiving a selected route of travel to the destination based upon a location of one or more access terminals that provide data connectivity between a current location and the selected destination;

a third module for navigating the selected route of travel to the destination; and

a fourth module for receiving content via the data connectivity provided by the one or more access terminals while navigating the selected route of travel.

73. A computer program product, comprising:

a computer-readable medium comprising;

at least one instruction for causing a computer to select a destination to travel towards;

at least one instruction for causing the computer to receive a selected route of travel to the destination based upon a location of one or more access terminals that provide data connectivity between a current location and the selected destination;

at least one instruction for causing the computer to navigate the selected route of travel to the destination; and

at least one instruction for causing the computer to receive content via the data connectivity provided by the one or more access terminals while navigating the selected route of travel.

74. An apparatus, comprising:

means for selecting a destination to travel towards;

means for receiving a selected route of travel to the destination based upon a location of one or more access terminals that provide data connectivity between a current location and the selected destination;

means for navigating the selected route of travel to the destination; and

means for receiving content via the data connectivity provided by the one or more access terminals while navigating the selected route of travel.

75. An apparatus for receiving content, comprising:

a navigation component operable to select a destination to travel towards, receive a selected route of travel to the destination based upon a location of one or more access terminals that provide data connectivity between a current location and the selected destination, and navigate the selected route of travel to the destination; and

a presenting component operable to receive content via the data connectivity provided by the one or more access terminals while navigating the selected route of travel.

76. The apparatus of claim 75, further comprising:

a selection component operable to select content to receive; and

a request component operable to send a request for the content.

77. The apparatus of claim 75, wherein selecting the destination comprises selecting the destination from a navigation system associated with the wireless device.

78. The apparatus of claim 75, wherein the navigation component is further operable to update the selected route of travel based upon one or more of traffic information, a current speed of the wireless device, weather information, or navigation information from a navigation system associated with the wireless device.

79. The apparatus of claim 75, wherein the navigation component is further operable to receive a notification that the selected route has changed.

80. The apparatus of claim 79, wherein the notification comprises one or more of an alarm or a voice message.
