Abstract

Methods and apparatus to share online media impression data are disclosed. An example method includes sending a response to a request, the response including an identification of a first cookie used by an audience measurement entity and an indication of a database proprietor, and receiving a mapping of the first cookie to a second cookie used by the database proprietor and demographic information associated with the second cookie by the database proprietor.

Claims

1. A method, comprising:

sending a response to a request, the response including an identification of a first cookie used by an audience measurement entity and an indication of a database proprietor; and

receiving a mapping of the first cookie to a second cookie used by the database proprietor and demographic information associated with the second cookie by the database proprietor.

2. A method as defined in claim 1, wherein the mapping and the demographic information are received in an asynchronous communication from the database proprietor.

3. A method as defined in claim 1, wherein the response comprises a re-direct message, the re-direct message to cause a client device to send a request to the database proprietor.

4. A method as defined in claim 1, wherein the mapping is received at a first time and the demographic information is received at a second time after the first time.

5. A method as defined in claim 1, further comprising selecting the database proprietor from a list of database proprietors based on a web site from which the request originated.

6. A method as defined in claim 5, wherein selecting the database proprietor comprises determining a quality of demographic information provided by the database proprietor for an expected demographic group associated with the web site.

7. A method as defined in claim 1, further comprising determining whether the request includes the first cookie and, when the request does not include the first cookie, generating the first cookie.

8. An apparatus, comprising:

a re-director to send a response to a request, the response including an identification of a first cookie used by an audience measurement entity and an indication of a database proprietor; and

a communication interface to receive a mapping of the first cookie to a second cookie used by the database proprietor and demographic information associated with the second cookie by the database proprietor.

9. An apparatus as defined in claim 8, wherein the communication interface is to receive the mapping and the demographic information in an asynchronous communication from the database proprietor.

10. An apparatus as defined in claim 8, wherein the response comprises a re-direct message, the re-direct message to cause a client device to send a request to the database proprietor.

11. An apparatus as defined in claim 8, wherein the communication interface is to receive the mapping at a first time and receive the demographic information at a second time after the first time.

12. An apparatus as defined in claim 8, further comprising a partner selector to select the database proprietor from a list of database proprietors based on a web site from which the request originated.

13. An apparatus as defined in claim 12, wherein the partner selector is to select the database proprietor comprises determining a quality of demographic information provided by the database proprietor for an expected demographic group associated with the web site.

14. An apparatus as defined in claim 8, further comprising a cookie generator, the re-director to determine whether the request includes the first cookie and, when the request does not include the first cookie, the cookie generator to generate the first cookie.

15. A computer readable storage medium comprising computer readable instructions which, when executed, cause a processor to at least:

send a response to a request, the response including an identification of a first cookie used by an audience measurement entity and an indication of a database proprietor; and

store a mapping of the first cookie to a second cookie used by the database proprietor and received from the database proprietor and to store demographic information associated with the second cookie and received from the database proprietor.

16. A storage medium as defined in claim 15, wherein the mapping and the demographic information are received in an asynchronous communication from the database proprietor.

17. A storage medium as defined in claim 15, wherein the response comprises a re-direct message, the re-direct message to cause a client device to send a request to the database proprietor.

18. A storage medium as defined in claim 15, wherein the mapping is received at a first time and the demographic information is received at a second time after the first time.

19. A storage medium as defined in claim 15, wherein the instructions are further to cause the processor to select the database proprietor from a list of database proprietors based on a web site from which the request originated.

20. A storage medium as defined in claim 19, wherein the instructions are to cause the processor to select the database proprietor by determining a quality of demographic information provided by the database proprietor for an expected demographic group associated with the web site.

21. A storage medium as defined in claim 15, wherein the instructions are further to cause the processor to determine whether the request includes the first cookie and, when the request does not include the first cookie, generate the first cookie.
