Abstract

Techniques for identifying recently installed applications on a portable electronic device facilitating locating newly installed applications on a mobile device are disclosed. A visual indicator may be displayed on an icon associated with an application that was recently installed on the portable electronic device. The visual indicator may be removed after a user has interacted with the application in some meaningful way. One or more applications are selected in an application store session for installation on a portable electronic device. After a selection of one or more applications, the application store session continues, and other applications may be selected, until an exit instruction is received. Upon the exit instruction, a home screen page containing at least one of the new applications is displayed.

Claims

1. A method comprising:

displaying, on a portable electronic device, a first user interface enabling selection of one or more applications for installation;

receiving, by the portable electronic device, a selection of an application to be installed;

installing, on the portable electronic device, the application to be installed;

continuing to display the first user interface enabling selection of one or more applications for installation upon receipt of the selection of the application to be installed until an exit instruction is received;

after the exit instruction is received, displaying a second user interface with a page having one or more graphical objects displayed on the page, each graphical object corresponding to an application installed on the portable electronic device, the page with one or more graphical objects including a graphical object corresponding to a recently installed application, wherein the graphical object includes a visual indicator until a remove visual indicator event occurs.

2. The method of claim 1 wherein the remove visual indicator event occurs when the installed application is launched.

3. The method of claim 1 wherein the remove visual indicator event occurs when the installed application is moved to a folder.

4. The method of claim 1 wherein the remove visual indicator event occurs when the installed application is moved to a different location on one or more of the pages.

5. The method of claim 1 wherein the visual indicator comprises one or more of the following:

a sash on the first graphical object, a badge on the first graphical object, a color of the first graphical object, text, opacity of the first graphical object, size of the first graphical object, movement of the first graphical object, or flashing of the first graphical object.

6. A method comprising:

installing a first application on a portable electronic device;

providing, on the portable electronic device, a first user interface with one or more pages with a page having one or more graphical objects displayed on a page, each graphical object corresponding to an application installed on the portable electronic device;

displaying on a first page a first graphical object corresponding to the first application, wherein the first graphical object includes a visual indicator until a remove visual indicator event occurs; and

removing, by the computer device, the visual indicator when the remove visual indicator event occurs.

7. The method of claim 6 wherein the remove visual indicator event occurs when the installed application is launched.

8. The method of claim 6 wherein the remove visual indicator event occurs when the installed application is moved to a folder.

9. The method of claim 6 wherein the remove visual indicator event occurs when the installed application is moved to a different location.

10. The method of claim 6 wherein the visual indicator comprises one or more of the following:

a sash on the first graphical object, a badge on the first graphical object, a color of the first graphical object, text, opacity of the first graphical object, size of the first graphical object, movement of the first graphical object, or flashing of the first graphical object.

11. A computer-readable memory having instructions stored thereon, which when executed by a processor, cause the processor to perform the method comprising:

installing a first application on a portable electronic device;

providing a first user interface with one or more pages containing one or more graphical objects, each graphical object corresponding to an application installed on the portable electronic device;

displaying on a first page a first graphical object corresponding to the first application, wherein the first graphical object includes a visual indicator until a remove visual indicator event occurs; and

removing the visual indicator when the remove visual indicator event occurs.

12. The computer-readable memory of claim 11, wherein the remove visual indicator event occurs when the installed application is launched.

13. The computer-readable memory of claim 11, wherein the remove visual indicator event occurs when the installed application is moved to a folder.

14. The computer-readable memory of claim 11 wherein the remove visual indicator event occurs when the installed application is moved to a different location on one or more of the pages.

15. The computer-readable memory of claim 11 further comprising wherein the visual indicator comprises one or more of the following:

a sash on the first graphical object, a badge on the first graphical object, a color of the first graphical object, text, opacity of the first graphical object, size of the first graphical object, movement of the first graphical object, or flashing of the first graphical object.

16. A method comprising:

displaying, on a portable electronic device, a first user interface enabling selection of one or more applications for installation;

receiving, by the portable electronic device, a selection of a first application to be installed;

installing, on the portable electronic device, the first application;

continuing to display the first user interface enabling selection of one or more applications for installation upon receipt of the selection of the first application installed until an exit instruction is received;

after the exit instruction is received, displaying a second user interface with a page having one or more graphical objects on the page, each graphical object corresponding to an application installed on the portable electronic device, the page with one or more graphical objects including a first graphical object corresponding to the first application installed on the portable electronic device.

17. The method of claim 16 wherein the first graphical object comprises a recently installed indicator indicating that the recently installed application was recently installed.

18. The method of claim 17 wherein the recently installed indicator is removed when the installed application is launched for the first time.

19. The method of claim 18 wherein the recently installed indicator is removed when the installed application is moved to a different location on one or more of the pages.

20. The method of claim 16 further comprising:

before the exit instruction is received, receiving a selection of a second application to be installed from the user; and

installing the second application.

21. An apparatus comprising:

a processor;

a display coupled to the processor;

a computer-readable memory coupled to the processor having code, executable by the processor, for performing the method including the steps of;

displaying, on a portable electronic device, a first user interface enabling selection of one or more applications for installation;

receiving, by the portable electronic device, a selection of a first application to be installed;

installing, on the portable electronic device, the first application;

continuing to display the first user interface enabling selection of one or more applications for installation upon receipt of the selection of the first application installed until an exit instruction is received; and

after the exit instruction is received, displaying a second user interface with a page having one or more graphical objects displayed on the page, each graphical object corresponding to an application installed on the portable electronic device, the page with one or more graphical objects including a first graphical object corresponding to the first application installed on the portable electronic device.

22. The apparatus of claim 21, wherein the first graphical object comprises a recently installed indicator indicating that the recently installed application was recently installed.

23. The apparatus of claim 22, wherein the visual indicator is removed upon the occurrence of a remove recently installed indicator event initiated by a user.

24. The apparatus of claim 22, wherein the visual indicator is removed upon the occurrence of a remove recently installed indicator event comprising a predetermined time passing since installation.

25. The apparatus of claim 22, wherein the visual indicator is removed upon the occurrence of a remove recently installed indicator event comprising a new application being downloaded in a subsequent application store session.
