Abstract

Systems, methods, and other embodiments associated with test code generation based on test documentation are described. In one embodiment, a method includes identifying a tagged test action object in a test specification document; mapping the identified test action object to an executable test instruction; and providing the executable test instruction for execution to test an application through a user interface associated with the application. The example method may also include storing executable test instructions as an executable test routine, validating test routines to confirm the presence of specified test instructions, and logging execution of the test instructions.

Claims

1. A non-transitory computer-readable medium storing computer-executable instructions that when executed by a computer cause the computer to perform a method, the method comprising:

identifying a tagged test action object in a test specification document;

mapping the identified test action object to an executable test instruction; and

providing the executable test instruction for execution to test an application through a user interface associated with the application.

2. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 1, where identifying the tagged test action object comprises parsing a textual test specification document that describes a test case to identify the tagged test action object.

3. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 2, where the instructions further comprise identifying a tagged text object corresponding to label for an actuable object and mapping the label to an executable test instruction for actuating the actuable object.

4. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 3 comprising:

identifying a preferred spoken language for the tagged text object;

accessing a translation map that maps the tagged text object to a translation of the tagged text object in at least one different spoken language;

selecting a translation of the tagged text object corresponding to the preferred spoken language; and

providing the selected translation as a label for the actuable object.

5. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 3, where the instructions further comprise:

when the tagged text object is a label for an actuable object, locating the actuable object by mapping the tagged text object to executable instructions for;

determining a parent object to the tagged text object;

determining if any child object of the parent object corresponds to an actuable object; and

when a child object is identified as corresponding to an actuable object, identifying the child object as the actuable object associated with the tagged text object.

6. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 1, where the mapping comprises determining an execution/playback tool to be used in testing and accessing a library that maps test action objects to executable test instructions for the determined execution/tool.

7. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 1, where the instructions further comprise providing the executable test instruction to the user interface.

8. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 1 where the instructions further comprise storing a plurality of executable test instructions as an executable test routine.

9. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 8, where the instructions further comprise searching the test routine for one or more specified executable test instructions and providing an error message if a specified test instruction is not present in the test routine.

10. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 1, further comprising providing executable instructions for logging test results during execution of the test instruction on the user interface.

11. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 10 where the executable instructions for logging test results comprise instructions for generating a screen shot of the user interface during execution of a test instruction on the user interface.

12. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 10 where the executable instructions for logging test results comprise instructions for storing records related to test instruction execution in a database in a predefined structure.

13. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 10 where the executable instructions for logging test results comprise instructions for performing a file transfer protocol of test results to a selected computer.

14. A computing system, comprising:

a library, stored on non-transitory computer-readable medium, that maps test action objects to executable test instructions; and

a test code generation logic configured to identify a tagged test action object in a test specification document, access the library to map the identified test action object to an executable test instruction, and provide the executable test instruction to test an application through a user interface associated with the application.

15. The computing system of claim 14, comprising a parsing logic configured to parse the test specification document to identify the tagged test action object.

16. The computing system of claim 14, where the parsing logic is configured to identify a tagged text object corresponding to a label for an actuable object and map the actuable object to an executable test instruction for actuating the actuable object.

17. The computing system of claim 14, where the test code generation logic is configured to, when the tagged text object is a label for an actuable object, generate executable test instructions for determining a parent object to the tagged text object, determining if any child object of the parent object corresponds to an actuable object, and when a child object is identified as corresponding to an actuable object, identifying the child object as the actuable object associated with the tagged text object.

18. The computing system of claim 14, comprising a test logic configured to execute the executable test instruction on the user interface.

19. The computing system of claim 14, comprising a code validation logic configured to search a test routine comprising a plurality of test instructions for one or more specified executable test instructions and to provide an error message if a specified test instruction is not present in the test routine.

20. The computing system of claim 14, comprising a logging logic configured to log test results during execution of the test instruction on the user interface.

21. A non-transitory computer-readable medium storing computer-executable instructions that when executed by a computer cause the computer to perform a method, the method comprising:

identifying an executable instruction in an executable test routine;

mapping the executable instruction to a test action object corresponding to a human readable description of the test action object; and

providing the test action object as human readable documentation of the test routine.
