Abstract

Methods and system of alerting a driver of a vehicle is provided. In one embodiment, the method includes: receiving conditions data from one or more collision avoidance systems; selectively coordinating an alert pattern for at least one of a haptic alert device, a visual alert device, and an auditory alert device based on the conditions data; receiving at least one of interior vehicle conditions data indicating conditions within the vehicle and exterior conditions data indicating conditions outside of the vehicle; and modifying the alert pattern based on the at least one of interior vehicle conditions data and exterior vehicle conditions data.

Claims

1. A method of alerting a driver of a vehicle, comprising:

receiving conditions data from one or more collision avoidance systems;

selectively coordinating an alert pattern for at least one of a haptic alert device, a visual alert device, and an auditory alert device based on the conditions data;

receiving at least one of interior vehicle conditions data indicating conditions within the vehicle and exterior conditions data indicating conditions outside of the vehicle; and

modifying the alert pattern based on the at least one of interior vehicle conditions data and exterior vehicle conditions data.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein the receiving the at least one of interior vehicle conditions data and exterior vehicle conditions data comprises receiving the interior vehicle conditions data.

3. The method of claim 2, wherein the interior vehicle conditions data indicates a volume of an infotainment system.

4. The method of claim 2, wherein the interior vehicle conditions data is received from an at least one of a driver distraction module, a driver workload estimation module, a drowsy driver determination module, and semi-autonomous driving system.

5. The method of claim 1, wherein the receiving the at least one of exterior vehicle conditions data and interior vehicle conditions data comprises receiving the exterior vehicle conditions data.

6. The method of claim 5, wherein the exterior vehicle conditions data indicates a vibration of the vehicle.

7. The method of claim 6, wherein the modifying the alert pattern is based on a magnitude of the vibration.

8. The method of claim 1, wherein the modifying the alert pattern comprises modifying an intensity of a signal of the alert pattern.

9. The method of claim 1, wherein the modifying the alert pattern comprises modifying a timing of presenting the alert pattern.

10. The method of claim 1, wherein the alert pattern is based on at least one of a location of an alert within an alert device, an auditory type of an alert, a visual type of an alert, a duration of an alert, a rate of a vibration pulse of an alert, a rate of a sound of an alert, a rate of a visual alert, a frequency of a vibration pulse of an alert, a frequency of a sound of an alert, and a frequency of a visual alert.

11. A control system for alerting a driver of a vehicle, comprising:

a first module that receives conditions data from one or more collision avoidance systems;

a second module that selectively coordinates an alert pattern for at least one of a haptic alert device, a visual alert device, and an auditory alert device based on the conditions data;

a third module that receives at least one of interior vehicle conditions data indicating conditions within the vehicle and exterior conditions data indicating conditions outside of the vehicle, and that modifies the alert pattern based on the at least one of interior vehicle conditions data and exterior vehicle conditions data.

12. The control system of claim 11, wherein the third module receives the interior vehicle conditions data.

13. The control system of claim 12, wherein the interior vehicle conditions data indicates a volume of an infotainment system.

14. The control system of claim 12, wherein the interior vehicle conditions data is received from an at least one of a driver distraction module, a driver workload estimation module, a drowsy driver determination module, and semi-autonomous driving system.

15. The control system of claim 11, wherein third module receives the exterior vehicle conditions data.

16. The control system of claim 15, wherein the exterior vehicle conditions data indicates a vibration of the vehicle.

17. The control system of claim 16, wherein the third module modifies the alert pattern based on a magnitude of the vibration.

18. The control system of claim 11, wherein the third module modifies the alert pattern by modifying an intensity of a signal of the alert pattern.

19. The control system of claim 11, wherein the third module modifies the alert pattern by modifying a timing of presenting the alert pattern.

20. A vehicle, comprising:

one or more collision avoidance system that generates conditions data; and

a control module that receives conditions data from the one or more collision avoidance systems, that selectively coordinates an alert pattern for at least one of a haptic alert device, a visual alert device, and an auditory alert device based on the conditions data, that receives at least one of interior vehicle conditions data indicating conditions within the vehicle and exterior conditions data indicating conditions outside of the vehicle, and that modifies the alert pattern based on the at least one of interior vehicle conditions data and exterior vehicle conditions data.
