1. A maintenance device for coupling to an electric vehicle and performing maintenance on an electrical system of the electric vehicle, comprising:
- a device housing;
a controller in the housing configured to control operation of the maintenance device;
low voltage input/output circuitry coupled to the controller;
a bus outside of the housing coupled to the low voltage input/output circuitry; and
a junction box coupled to the bus outside of the housing, the junction box having a digital databus connection configured to couple to a digital databus of the electric vehicle and at least one analog interface configured to couple to an analog electrical system of the vehicle.

Abstract
The present invention includes a battery maintenance device for performing maintenance on battery packs of hybrid and/or electrical vehicles (referred herein generally as electric vehicles). In various embodiments, the device includes one or more loads for connecting to a battery pack for use in discharging the battery pack, and/or charging circuitry for use in charging the battery pack. Input/output circuitry can be provided for communicating with circuitry of in the battery pack and/or circuitry of the vehicle.

17. A maintenance device for coupling a battery pack to an electric vehicle and performing maintenance on the battery pack, comprising:

a device housing; a controller in the housing configured to control operation of the maintenance device; operator input/output circuitry coupled to the controller; high voltage circuitry coupled to the controller; a Kelvin connection comprising two wires which carry a current and two wires which senses voltage, wherein the wires couple to the high voltage circuitry and extend out of the housing; a junction box having an adapter connection coupled to the Kelvin connection; and a battery pack connector configured to couple the adapter connection to the battery pack.

a housing; a controller in the housing configured to control operation of the maintenance device; operator input/output circuitry coupled to the controller; discharge circuitry comprising; plurality of electrical loads; an insulated gate bipolar transistor configured to couple at least one of the plurality electrical loads to a battery of the electrical system.
