Abstract

A system for associating a patient with a device may include a memory and a processor. The memory may be configured to store a plurality of orders and a set of parameters, wherein each of the plurality of orders comprises order attributes and each of the plurality of orders identifies one of a plurality of patients. The processor may be configured to receive the plurality of orders from an order entry system, receive the set of parameters from a device, correlate the set of parameters with an order of the plurality of orders based on the order attributes of the plurality of orders, associate the device with the patient identified by the order that correlates with the set of parameters, and provide, to the device, an indication of the patient associated with the device.

Claims

1. A method for associating a patient with a device, the method comprising:

receiving a plurality of orders, each comprising order attributes, from an order entry system, wherein each of the plurality of orders identifies one of a plurality of patients;

receiving a set of parameters from a device for providing healthcare;

correlating the set of parameters with an order of the plurality of orders based on the order attributes of the plurality of orders;

associating the device with the patient that is identified by the order that is correlated with the set of parameters; and

providing, to the device, an indication of the patient associated with the device.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein the correlating further comprises:

determining that the set of parameters correlates to more than one of the plurality of orders; and

providing, to the device, an indication of each patient of the plurality of patients identified by each of the more than one of the plurality or orders; and

receiving, from the device, a selection of one of the indicated patients; and

correlating the set of parameters with the order of the plurality of orders that identifies the selected patient.

3. The method of claim 1, wherein the correlating further comprises:

determining that the set of parameters correlates to more than one of the plurality of orders; and

correlating the set of parameters to an order of the more than one of the plurality of orders based on an attribute associated with the device.

4. The method of claim 3, wherein the correlating further comprises:

correlating the set of parameters to the order of the more than one of the plurality of orders based on the attribute associated with the device and additional information that is determinable from the order of the more than one of the plurality of orders.

5. The method of claim 3, wherein the attribute associated with the device comprises an extrinsic attribute of the device.

6. The method of claim 5, wherein the extrinsic attribute of the device comprises at least one of a location of the device, a network identifier of the device, or an identifier of a user who programmed the device with the set of parameters.

7. The method of claim 6, wherein the extrinsic attribute is received from an external system.

8. The method of claim 3, wherein the attribute associated the device comprises an intrinsic attribute of the device.

9. The method of claim 8, wherein the intrinsic attribute of the device comprises at least one of a type of the device or a Media Access Control (MAC) address of the device.

10. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

associating additional data received from the device with the patient associated with the device.

11. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

receiving, from the device, a confirmation that the device provides the healthcare to the indicated patient; and

storing an association between the device and the indicated patient when the confirmation is received from the device.

12. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

receiving an additional order from the order entry system, wherein the additional order identifies the patient that is associated with the device; and

providing the additional order to the device.

13. The method of claim 12, wherein the additional order comprises additional order attributes, and the method further comprises:

verifying that the additional order is appropriate for the patient associated with the device based on the additional order attributes and a profile of the patient.

14. The method of claim 13, wherein the providing the additional order to the device further comprises:

generating an additional set of parameters to be programmed into the device based on the additional order attributes of the additional order; and

remotely programming the device with the additional set of programming parameters.

15. The method of claim 14, wherein the means for remotely programming the device further comprises remotely programming the device over a network.

16. The method of claim 1, wherein at least one of the order attributes of one of the plurality of orders comprises an amount of an item to be dispensed, a time when the item is to be dispensed, or a rate at which the item is to be dispensed.

17. The method of claim 16, wherein the item comprises a substance prescribed for medical treatment.

18. The method of claim 1, wherein at least one parameter of the set of parameters comprises an amount of an item to be dispensed by the device, a time when the item is to be dispensed by the device, or a rate at which the item is to be dispensed by the device.

19. A method for confirming a patient-device association, the method comprising:

receiving a set of parameters that relate to providing healthcare to a patient;

providing the set of parameters to a remote device;

receiving, from the remote device, one or more patient identifiers;

presenting the one or more patient identifiers;

receiving a selection of one of the one or more patient identifiers that identifies the patient; and

providing the selection of the one of the one or more patient identifiers to the remote device.

20. The method of claim 19, further comprising:

receiving, from the remote device, a set of additional parameters that relate to providing additional healthcare to the patient;

providing additional healthcare to the patient in accordance with the set of additional parameters.

21. The method of claim 19, wherein at least one parameter of the set of parameters comprises an amount of an item to be dispensed, a time when the item is to be dispensed, or a rate at which the item is to be dispensed.

22. The method of claim 21, wherein the item comprises a substance prescribed for medical treatment.

23. The method of claim 19, wherein the set of parameters comprise instructions for providing the healthcare to the patient.

24. A method for associating patients with devices, the method comprising:

receiving a plurality of orders that each comprises a plurality of order attributes from an order entry system, wherein each of the plurality of orders identifies one of a plurality of patients;

receiving sets of parameters from a plurality of devices;

correlating each set of parameters with the plurality of order attributes of one or more of the plurality of orders;

disambiguating each set of parameters that is correlated with more than one of the plurality of orders, wherein the disambiguating is based on an attribute associated with the device from which each set of parameters that is correlated with more than one of the plurality of orders was received;

generating a data structure comprising associations between each of the plurality of devices from which each set of parameters was received and the patient of the plurality of patients identified by the order of the plurality of orders correlated with each set of parameters; and

storing the data structure in a memory.

25. The method of claim 24, wherein each set of parameters was programmed into each of the plurality of devices from which each set of parameters was received.

The method of claim 25, wherein the plurality of devices comprise a plurality of devices for providing healthcare to the plurality of patients and each set of parameters comprises a set of instructions for providing the healthcare through each of the plurality of devices to each of the plurality of patients.

27. The method of claim 26, further comprising:

providing, to each of the plurality of devices, an indication of the one of the plurality of patients associated with each of the plurality of devices in the data structure; and

receiving, from each of the plurality of devices, a confirmation of whether each of the plurality of the devices will be providing healthcare to the one of the plurality of patients associated with each of the plurality of devices in the data structure.

28. The method of claim 24, further comprising storing an association between additional data received from each of the plurality of devices and the one of the plurality of patients associated with each of the plurality of devices.

29. The method of claim 24, wherein the attribute associated with each of the plurality of devices comprises an extrinsic attribute.

30. The method of claim 29, wherein the extrinsic attribute comprises at least one of a location of the device, a network identifier of the device, or an identifier of a person who programmed the device.

31. The method of claim 30, wherein the extrinsic attribute is received from an external system.

32. The method of claim 24, wherein the attribute associated with each of the plurality of devices comprises an intrinsic attribute.

33. The method of claim 32, wherein the intrinsic attribute comprises at least one of a type of the device or a Media Access Control (MAC) address of the device.

34. The method of claim 24, further comprising:

receiving an additional order comprising a plurality of additional order attributes from the order entry system, where the additional order identifies a patient of the plurality of patients who is associated with a device of the plurality of devices; and

providing the additional entered order to the device of the plurality of devices associated with the patient of the plurality of patients.

35. The method of claim 34, wherein the additional order comprises a plurality of additional order attributes, and further comprising:

verifying that the additional order is appropriate for the patient of the plurality of patients who is associated with the device of the plurality of devices based on the plurality of additional order attributes of the additional order and a profile of the patient of the plurality of patients.

36. The method of claim 35, wherein providing the additional entered order to the device of the plurality of devices further comprises:

generating an additional set of programming parameters based on the plurality of additional order attributes of the additional order; and

remotely programming the device of the plurality of devices with the additional set of programming parameters.

37. The method of claim 36, wherein the remotely programming the device is performed over a network.

38. The method of claim 24, wherein when the disambiguating results in more than one of the plurality of entered orders correlated to one of the sets of parameters, the method further comprises:

providing, to the device from which the one of the sets of parameters was received, an indication of the patient of the plurality of patients identified by each of the more than one of the plurality of entered orders;

receiving, from the device, a selection of one of the patients; and

correlating the selected patient with the device from which the one of the sets of parameters was received.

39. The method of claim 24, wherein at least one of the plurality of order attributes of one of the plurality of orders comprises at least one of an amount of an item to be dispensed, a time when the item is to be dispensed, or a rate at which the item is to be dispensed.

40. The method of claim 39, wherein the item comprises a substance prescribed for medical treatment.

41. The method of claim 25, wherein the one of the sets of parameters received from one of the plurality of devices comprises at least one of an amount of an item to be dispensed by the one of the plurality of devices, a time when the item is to be dispensed by the one of the plurality of devices, or a rate at which the item is to be dispensed by the one of the plurality of devices.

42. A system for associating a patient with a device, the system comprising:

means for receiving a plurality of orders, each comprising order attributes, from an order entry system, wherein each of the plurality of orders identifies one of a plurality of patients;

means for receiving a set of parameters from a device for providing healthcare;

means for correlating the set of parameters with an order of the plurality of orders based on the order attributes of the plurality of orders;

means for associating the device with the patient identified by the order that is correlated with the set of parameters; and

means for providing, to the device, an indication of the patient associated with the device.

43. A system for associating a patient with a device, the system comprising:

a memory configured to store a plurality of orders and a set of parameters, wherein each of the plurality of orders comprises order attributes and each of the plurality of orders identifies one of a plurality of patients; and

a processor configured to receive the plurality of orders from an order entry system, receive the set of parameters from a device, correlate the set of parameters with an order of the plurality of orders based on the order attributes of the plurality of orders, associate the device with the patient identified by the order that is correlated with the set of parameters, and provide, to the device, an indication of the patient associated with the device.

44. A non-transitory machine readable medium embodying instructions that, when executed by a machine, allow the machine to perform a method for associating a patient with a device, the method comprising:

receiving a plurality of orders, each comprising order attributes, from an order entry system, wherein each of the plurality of orders identifies one of a plurality of patients;

receiving a set of parameters from a device for providing healthcare;

correlating the set of parameters with an order of the plurality of orders based on the order attributes of the plurality of orders;

associating the device with the patient identified by the order that is correlated with the set of parameters; and

providing, to the device, an indication of the patient associated with the device.

45. A method for associating a patient with a device, the method comprising:

receiving data items from at least one remote device, wherein each of the data items comprises data item attributes and each of the data items is associated with one of a plurality of patients;

receiving a set of parameters from a device for providing healthcare, wherein the set of parameters is exclusive of a patient identifier;

correlating the set of parameters with one of the data items based on the data item attributes of the data items;

associating the device with the patient of the plurality of patients that is associated with the one of the data items that is correlated with the set of parameters; and

storing an association between the patient and the device.
