Abstract
A system and method are disclosed that determines the location of an object touching a display screen. The system and method modifies already existing display technology, including using the underlying structure of many types of existing displays as the touch detecting structure. The systems and methods are applicable to virtually all LCD and LCD-like displays, including emissive displays (OLED, PLED, quantum dot displays, etc.), electronic paper, and others.

14. A method of constraining touch contact on a display screen to at least one probable point of touch contact, based on recorded locations of past touch contact, thereby reducing touch contact determination errors from unintended touch contact on the display screen, wherein the display screen includes a plurality of display pixels operable for determining touch contact with the display, comprising the acts of:
-
a. determining, using a processor and a memory storing at least one previously recorded touch contact point with the display screen, a trajectory of past touch contact points; b. determining, using the processor, a property of the trajectory of past touch contact points; c. determining, using the processor, at least one likely next touch contact point on the display screen using the property of the trajectory of past touch contact points; d. determining a new touch contact point on the display screen based on an instance of physical contact with the display, using at least one of the plurality of display pixels operable for determining touch contact with the display; e. determining, using the processor, that the new touch contact point has a lower probability of intended touch contact than the at least one likely next touch contact point; and f. disregarding the new touch contact point, using the processor, if the lower probability of intended touch contact is determined to be below a set probability threshold. - View Dependent Claims (15, 16, 17, 18)

19. A display screen that constrains touch contact on the display screen to at least one probable point of touch contact, based on recorded locations of past touch contact, thereby reducing touch contact determination errors from unintended touch contact on the display screen, the display screen comprising:
-
a. a plurality of display pixels operable for determining touch contact with the display; b. a memory that stores at least one previously recorded touch contact point with the display screen; c. a processor coupled to the memory and the plurality of pixels; d. the processor configured to determine a trajectory of past touch contact points based on the memory storing at least one previously recorded touch contact point; e. the processor configured to determine a property of the trajectory of past touch contact points; f. the processor configured to determine at least one likely next touch contact point on the display screen using the property of the trajectory of past touch contact points; g. the processor configured to determine a new touch contact point on the display based on an instance of physical contact with the display, using at least one of the plurality of display pixels operable for determining touch contact with the display; h. the processor configured to determine that the new touch contact point has a lower probability of intended touch contact than the at least one likely next touch contact point; and i. the processor configured to disregard the new touch contact point if the lower probability of intended touch contact is determined to be below a set probability threshold. - View Dependent Claims (20, 21, 22, 23)
