Abstract

A method and system for providing calendar services in a Universal Plug and Play (UPnP) home network environment is provided. The method includes creating a calendar event in a UPnP calendar when a request for creating the calendar event is received by the TS from one of Telephony Control Points (TelCPs) in the UPnP home network environment; determining whether the created calendar event meets predetermined conditions; and triggering a notification, indicating that the calendar event meets the predetermined conditions, to the TelCPs in the UPnP home network environment when the calendar event meets the predetermined conditions.

Claims

1. A method for providing calendar services in a Universal Plug and Play (UPnP) home network environment by a Telephony Server (TS), comprising:

creating a calendar event in a UPnP calendar when a request for creating the calendar event is received by the TS from one of Telephony Control Points (TelCPs) in the UPnP home network environment;

determining whether the created calendar event meets determined conditions; and

triggering a notification indicating that the calendar event meets the predetermined conditions, to the TelCPs in the UPnP home network environment when the calendar event meets the determined conditions.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein the request for creating the calendar event comprises an identifier associated with the one of the TelCPs, a name of the calendar event, and a time and date associated with the calendar event.

3. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

registering the TelCPs for calendar services in the UPnP home network environment.

4. The method of claim 2, further comprising:

notifying the registered TelCPs in the UPnP home network environment that the calendar event has been created in the UPnP calendar to.

5. The method of claim 1, wherein triggering the notification comprises:

delivering the triggered notification to the registered TelCPs via a UPnP home network when the calendar event meets the determined conditions.

6. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

registering at least one TelCP user associated with one of the TelCPs for triggered notifications associated with the calendar event when the at least one TelCP user is outside the UPnP home network environment.

7. The method of claim 6, further comprising:

determining whether the at least one TelCP user associated with the one of the TelCPs is outside the UPnP home network environment; and

delivering the triggered notification indicating that the calendar event meets the predetermined conditions, to a Wireless Area Network (WAN) device associated with the at least one TelCP user via a wireless area network when the at least one TelCP user associated with said one of the TelCPs is outside the UPnP home network environment.

8. The method of claim 7, wherein, in triggering the notification indicating that the calendar event meets the predetermined conditions, the notification comprises at least one of a reminder, an alarm, and a free/busy time.

9. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

modifying the created calendar event when the request for modifying the calendar event is received from the one of the TelCPs.

10. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

deleting the created calendar event when the request for deleting the calendar event is received from the one of the TelCPs.

11. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

synchronizing the created calendar event with at least one family calendar events in the UPnP home network environment.

12. The method of claim 11, further comprising:

sharing the at least one family calendar events with the TelCP users in the UPnP home network environment when the request to fetch the family calendar events is received from the registered TelCPs associated with the TelCP users.

13. A telephony server comprising:

a processor; and

a memory coupled to the processor, wherein the memory includes a calendar services module configured to;

create a calendar event in a Universal Plug and Play (UPnP) calendar when a request for creating the calendar event is received from one of Telephony Control Points (TelCPs) in a UPnP home network environment;

determine whether the created calendar event meets predetermined conditions; and

trigger a notification indicating that the calendar event meets the predetermined conditions, to the TelCPs in the UPnP home network environment when the calendar event meets the predetermined conditions.

14. The telephony server of claim 13, wherein the request for creating the calendar event comprises an identifier associated with the one of the TelCPs, a name of the calendar event, and a time and date associated with the calendar event.

15. The telephony server of claim 13, wherein the calendar services module is further configured to:

register the TelCPs for calendar services in the UPnP home network environment.

16. The telephony server of claim 15, wherein the calendar services module is further configured to:

notify the registered TelCPs in the UPnP home network environment that the calendar event has been created in the UPnP calendar to.

17. The telephony server of claim 16, wherein, in triggering the notification indicating that the calendar event meets the predetermined conditions, the calendar services module is further configured to:

deliver the triggered notification to the registered TelCPs via the UPnP home network when the calendar event meets the predetermined conditions.

18. The telephony server of claim 13, wherein the calendar services module is further configured to:

register at least one TelCP user associated with one of the TelCPs for triggered notifications associated with the calendar event when the at least one TelCP user is outside the UPnP home network environment.

19. The telephony server of claim 18, wherein the calendar services module is further configured to:

determine whether the at least one TelCP user associated with the one of the TelCPs is outside the UPnP home network environment; and

deliver the triggered notification, indicating that the calendar event meets the predetermined conditions, to a Wireless Area Network (WAN) device associated with the at least one TelCP user via a wireless area network when the at least one TelCP user associated with the one of the TelCPs is outside the UPnP home network environment.

20. The telephony server of claim 13, wherein the notification comprises at least one of a reminder, an alarm, and a free/busy time.

21. The telephony server of claim 13, wherein the calendar services module is further configured to:

modify the created calendar event when a request for modifying the calendar event is received from the one of the TelCPs.

22. The telephony server of claim 13, wherein the calendar services module is further configured to:

delete the created calendar event when the request for deleting the calendar event is received from the one of the TelCPs.

23. The telephony server of claim 13, wherein the calendar services module is further configured to:

synchronize the calendar event with family calendar events created in the UPnP calendar.

24. The telephony server of claim 23, wherein the calendar services module is further configured to:

share the family calendar events with the TelCP users in the UPnP home network environment when the request to fetch the family calendar events is received from the registered TelCPs associated with the TelCP users.

25. A method for managing calendar events in a Universal Plug and Play (UPnP) home network environment by a Telephony Control Point (TelCP), comprising:

triggering a request to create a calendar event in a UPnP calendar stored in a Telephony Server (TS);

receiving a notification indicating that the calendar event created in the UPnP calendar meets predetermined conditions; and

displaying the notification indicating that the calendar event created in the UPnP calendar meets the predetermined conditions on a display device.

26. The method of claim 25, further comprising:

registering with the TS for calendar services in the UPnP home network environment.

27. The method of claim 25, further comprising:

displaying a notification indicating that the calendar event has been successfully created in the UPnP calendar.

28. The method of claim 25, further comprising:

modifying the calendar event created in the UPnP calendar.

29. The method of claim 25, further comprising:

deleting the calendar event created in the UPnP calendar.

30. The method of claim 25, further comprising:

retrieving one or more family calendar events created in the UPnP calendar.

31. The method of claim 25, further comprising:

retrieving one or more triggered calendar events from the UPnP calendar.

32. A Telephony Control Point (TelCP) comprising:

a processor;

a display unit; and

a memory coupled to the processor, wherein the memory includes a calendar event manager configured to;

trigger a request to create a calendar event in a Universal Plug and Play (UPnP) calendar stored in a Telephony Server (TS);

receive a notification indicating that the calendar event created in the UPnP calendar meets predetermined conditions; and

display the notification indicating that the calendar event created in the UPnP calendar meets the predetermined conditions on the display unit.

33. The TelCP of claim 32, wherein the calendar event manager is further configured to:

register with the TS for calendar services in the UPnP home network environment.

34. The TelCP of claim 32, wherein the calendar event manager is further configured to:

display a notification indicating that the calendar event has been successfully created in the UPnP calendar on the display unit.

35. The method of claim 32, wherein the calendar event manager is further configured to:

modify the calendar event created in the UPnP calendar.

36. The method of claim 32, wherein the calendar event manager is further configured to:

delete the calendar event created in the UPnP calendar.

37. The method of claim 32, wherein the calendar event manager is further configured to:

retrieve one or more family calendar events created in the UPnP calendar.

38. The method of claim 32, wherein the calendar event manager is further configured to:

retrieve one or more triggered calendar events from the UPnP calendar.

39. A system comprising:

a plurality of Telephony Control Points (TelCPs) configured trigger a request to create a calendar event in a Universal Plug and Play (UPnP) calendar;

a Telephony Server (TS) configured to;

create the calendar event in a UPnP calendar based on the request;

determine whether the created calendar event meets predetermined conditions; and

deliver a notification, indicating that the calendar event meets the predetermined conditions, to the plurality of TelCPs when the calendar event meets the predetermined conditions.

40. The system of claim 39, wherein the TS is configured to notify the TelCPs in the UPnP home network environment that the calendar event has been created in the UPnP calendar.

41. The system of claim 39, wherein the TS is configured to deliver the triggered notification, indicating that the calendar event meets the predetermined conditions, to a Wireless Area Network (WAN) device associated with at least one TelCP user via a wireless area network when the at least one TelCP user associated with any of the TelCPs is outside the UPnP home network environment.

42. The system of claim 39, wherein the notification comprises at least one of a reminder, an alarm, and a free/busy time.

43. The system of claim 39, wherein the TS is configured for to modify the created calendar event when a request for modifying the calendar event is received from the TelCPs.

44. The system of claim 39, wherein the TS is configured to delete the created calendar event when a request for deleting the calendar event is received from the TelCPs.

45. The system of claim 39, wherein the TS is configured to synchronize the calendar event with family calendar events created in the UPnP calendar.

46. The system of claim 39, wherein the TS is configured to share the family calendar events with TelCP users in the UPnP home network environment when the request to retrieve the family calendar events is received from one of the TelCPs associated with the TelCP users.
