Abstract

Technologies are generally described that relate to imaging and viewing systems, device and methods that can facilitate private viewing of images (e.g., from streaming video). A projection display device can scramble display images such that the display images are viewable by viewers using specialized devices (e.g., eyewear) that can descramble and/or decode the projected display images. The devices may include optical elements that can be modulated to descramble the images and display the images for the viewer. Some devices may also include digital cameras that electronically capture the scrambled images and unscramble the images. Various example devices may include stereoscopic cameras to enable the viewer to see a 3-dimensional image. The images may also be transmitted wirelessly to the devices to enable the viewer to see the multimedia display while on the move and/or shared with other viewers, with limited discomfort resulting from motion.

Claims

1. A projection display device, comprising:

an electromagnetic radiation generation unit configured to generate radiation;

an image generation unit configured to receive a control signal and modulate the radiation based on the control signal such that an image is generated;

a beam-splitter unit configured to encode the image, wherein at least one optical element in the beam-splitter unit is manipulated to split the image into a plurality of components, wherein the plurality of components correspond to respective ranges of wavelengths of radiation associated with the image, and wherein the beam-splitter unit is further configured to scramble the plurality of components into a scrambled image; and

a projection unit configured to project the scrambled image onto a display surface.

2. The projection display device of claim 1, wherein the electromagnetic radiation generation unit comprises a plurality of laser light sources.

3. The projection display device of claim 1, wherein the radiation is electromagnetic radiation in a non-visible spectrum.

4. The projection display device of claim 1, further comprising an encoding unit configured to encode a marker into at least one pixel of the scrambled image such that the marker identifies the at least one pixel as being associated with the scrambled image.

5. The projection display device of claim 1, wherein the at least one optical element comprises at least one of a minor, a lens, or a filter.

6. The projection display device of claim 1, further comprising a wireless communications unit configured to receive a transmission of the control signal from a wireless source.

36. The projection display device of claim 1, wherein the control signal is a first control signal, and the beam-splitter unit is further configured to scramble the plurality of components based on a second control signal.

7. A method, comprising:

generating an optical image based on a display image signal;

in response to a control signal, manipulating an optical element that is in a path of the optical image, said manipulating including dividing the optical image into a plurality of components, wherein the plurality of components comprise respective ranges of wavelengths of radiation of the optical image;

scrambling the plurality of components of the optical image into a scrambled image; and

projecting the scrambled image onto a display surface.

8. The method of claim 7, wherein the generating the optical image further comprises modulating a plurality of laser light sources.

9. The method of claim 7, wherein the projecting the scrambled image comprises projecting electromagnetic radiation in a non-visible spectrum.

10. The method of claim 7, further comprising encoding metadata into at least one pixel of the scrambled image, the metadata identifying the scrambled image.

12. The method of claim 7, further comprising combining the plurality of components together as a recombined image and projecting the recombined image onto the display surface.

13. The method of claim 7, further comprising receiving a wireless signal from a wireless source.

37. An apparatus, comprising:

an electromagnetic radiation unit configured to generate radiation;

an image generation unit configured to receive a control signal and modulate the radiation based on the control signal to create an image;

a scrambler unit configured to deconstruct the image into pulses of light and rearrange the pulses of light into a scrambled image, wherein the pulses of light are represented according to different wavelength bands; and

a projection unit configured to project the scrambled image onto a display surface.

38. The apparatus of claim 37, wherein the electromagnetic radiation unit comprises a plurality of laser light sources.

39. The apparatus of claim 37, wherein the radiation is electromagnetic radiation in a non-visible spectrum.

40. The apparatus of claim 37, further comprising an encoding unit configured to encode a marker into at least one pixel of the scrambled image such that the marker identifies the at least one pixel as being associated with the scrambled image.

41. The apparatus of claim 37, wherein the scrambler unit comprises at least one of a minor, a lens, or a filter.

42. The apparatus of claim 37, further comprising a wireless communications unit configured to receive the control signal from a wireless source.

43. A method, comprising:

deconstructing an optical image into pulses of light, wherein each of the pulses of light have a different wavelength range;

modulating the pulses of light into a series of modulated pulses of light that convey information representing computer-executable instructions; and

projecting the series of modulated pulses of light onto a display surface.

44. The method of claim 43, further comprising modulating an output of a plurality of laser light sources to generate the optical image.

45. The method of claim 43, wherein the projecting the series of modulated pulses of light comprises projecting electromagnetic radiation in a non-visible spectrum.

46. The method of claim 43, wherein said projecting includes projecting the modulated pulses of light concurrently.

47. A non-transitory computer-readable storage device comprising computer-executable instructions that, in response to execution, cause a system comprising at least one processor to perform operations, comprising:

deconstructing an optical image into pulses of light, wherein the pulses have different wavelength ranges;

modulating the pulses of light to a series of modulated pulses of light that convey information representing computer-executable instructions; and

projecting the series of modulated pulses of light onto a display surface.

48. The non-transitory computer-readable storage device of claim 47, wherein the operations further comprise modulating a plurality of laser light sources to generate the optical image.

49. The non-transitory computer-readable storage device of claim 47, wherein the operations further comprise encoding a pulse of light of the pulses of light with metadata that identifies a projection device that projected the pulse.

50. The non-transitory computer-readable storage device of claim 47, wherein the computer-executable instructions further comprise instructions to generate a defined representation of the optical image.
