Abstract

The disclosure relates to identifying a user consuming content so that the user can share information on a social network communication service. Aspects of the disclosure relate to detecting reactions to the content and transmitting information to a social networking service associated with the user.

Claims

1. A method comprising:

identifying, by a processor, a user consuming content;

determining an identity of the content;

detecting reaction data of the user in response to the user'"'"'s consumption of the content;

translating the reaction data of the user into evaluation information; and

transmitting data indicating the identity of the content and the evaluation information to one or more social network services associated with the user.

2. The method of claim 1, further comprising detecting a tag within the content, wherein the identifying of the user is performed in response to the detecting of the tag.

3. The method of claim 1, further comprising detecting a tag within the content, wherein the detecting of the reaction data is initiated in response to the detection of the tag.

4. The method of claim 1, wherein the detecting of the reaction data comprises:

receiving an image of the user captured using a camera; and

analyzing the image to detect the reaction data.

5. The method of claim 1, wherein the detecting of the reaction data comprises:

receiving audio recorded using a microphone; and

analyzing the recorded audio to detect the reaction data.

6. The method of claim 1, wherein the identity of the content is determined in response to detecting that the content has been selected for a predetermined time.

7. The method of claim 1, wherein the determining of the identity of the content comprises:

detecting a service identifier of the content being consumed in response to the detecting of the reaction data; and

converting the service identifier to obtain the identity of the content based on a location of the user and a content distribution schedule.

8. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

evaluating a captured image to extract physical characteristics;

comparing the extracted characteristics to known data to identify the user consuming the content;

determining the one or more social network services associated with the identified user;

retrieving authentication information of the identified user for accessing at least one of the one or more determined social network services; and

transmitting the authentication information to the at least one social network service to obtain access to an account of the identified user on the at least one social network service.

9. The method of claim 8, further comprising:

evaluating the captured image to extract additional physical characteristics of one or more additional users consuming the content;

comparing the extracted additional characteristics to the known data to identify the one or more additional users consuming the content;

determining one or more social network services associated with the identified one or more additional users;

retrieving authentication information of the identified one or more additional users for accessing their respective social network services;

transmitting the authentication information of the identified one or more additional users to the respective social network services; and

transmitting data indicating the identity of the content and evaluation information for each of the one or more additional users to the respective social network services.

10. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

evaluating an audio file, recorded by the microphone, to extract voice characteristics;

comparing the extracted voice characteristics to a known data to identify the user consuming the content;

determining the one or more social network services associated with the identified user;

retrieving authentication information of the identified user for accessing at least one of the one or more determined social network services; and

transmitting the authentication information to the at least one social network service to obtain access to an account of the identified user on the at least one social network service.

11. The method of claim 1, further comprising transmitting the evaluation information to a provider or creator of the content.

12. The method of claim 1,

wherein detecting the reaction data comprises detecting whether an image, captured by a camera, includes a predefined gesture of the user,

wherein translating the reaction data into evaluation information comprises retrieving evaluation information, stored in memory, that is associated with the predefined gesture, and

wherein transmitting data indicating the identity of the content and the evaluation information comprises transmitting data that causes the one or more social network services to share information indicating that the user has consumed the content and made the predefined gesture while consuming the content.

13. A method comprising:

identifying one or more segments of content as reaction-generating segments;

inserting tags into the content prior to the reaction-generating segments, each of the tags configured to cause an input device to capture reaction data when the reaction-generating segment is consumed by a user consuming the content.

14. The method of claim 13, wherein the reaction-generating segments are segments of the content which are expected to generate a user reaction.

15. The method of claim 13, wherein each of the tags is configured to cause a specific input device to capture a specific type of reaction data.

16. The method of claim 13, wherein the tags comprise at least one of an image tag configured to cause a camera to capture image data and an audio tag configured to cause a microphone to capture audio data.

17. The method of claim 13, wherein the tags are inserted into the content at a predetermined time prior to a time at which the corresponding reaction-generating segment occurs within the content.

18. A method comprising:

receiving reaction information, which is generated by a sensor in response to a user'"'"'s reaction to consuming content, and user identification data;

identifying the user based on the user identification data;

identifying the content;

retrieving authentication information for a social network service associated with the user; and

transmitting the authentication information, the identity of the content, and evaluation information to the social network service, wherein the evaluation information is determined based on the reaction information.

19. The method of claim 18,

wherein the content is identified based on a service identifier associated with a path on which the content is delivered to the user;

wherein the evaluation information indicates a user'"'"'s satisfaction with the content,

wherein the user identifying data is one of image data, audio data, fingerprint data, and retinal scan data, and

wherein the content is a television program or on-demand movie.

20. The method of claim 18, further comprising:

analyzing the reaction information to determine a reaction; and

translating the reaction into the evaluation information.
