Abstract

An irrigation management system includes a monitoring system, a controller and a user interface. The monitoring system monitors an operational status of the irrigation system, including a current position, a travel status, a direction of travel, and a fault status. The user interface displays a map view of a geographic area including an irrigated area corresponding to the irrigation system. A graphical element in the map view provides a visual indication of the operational status of the irrigation system. The controller receives monitoring information from the monitoring system and continuously updates the user interface to reflect changes in the operational status of the irrigation system, such that the graphical element reflects a current status of the irrigation system.

Claims

1. An irrigation management system, the system comprising:

a monitoring system for monitoring a position of an irrigation system;

a user interface for displaying a map view of a geographic area including an irrigated area corresponding to the irrigation system, the map view including a graphical element corresponding to the irrigation system, the graphical element including an outline of the irrigated area and providing a visual indication of a start position of the irrigation system, a current position of the irrigation system, and progress of the irrigation system, the visual indication of the progress of the irrigation system including a colored area of the status icon corresponding to a portion of the irrigated area covered by the irrigation system; and

a controller for receiving monitoring information from the monitoring system and updating the graphical element to reflect changes in the position of the irrigation system, the direction of travel of the irrigation system, and the progress of the irrigation system.

2. The irrigation system of claim 1, the user interface further including a visual indicator of a number of rotations the irrigation system has completed,

3. The irrigation management system of claim 1, the map view including an image of the geographic area.

4. The irrigation management system of claim 1,

the monitoring system further configured to monitor a direction of travel of the irrigation system, a fault status of the irrigation system including whether the system has experienced an unanticipated event, and a travel status of the irrigation system including whether the system is moving or stopped,

the graphical dement further providing a visual indication of the direction of travel of the irrigation system, a fault status of the irrigation system including whether the system has experienced an unanticipated event, and a travel status of the irrigation system including whether the system is moving or stopped,

the controller further configured to update the graphical element to reflect changes in the direction of travel of the irrigation system, the fault status of the irrigation system, and whether the irrigation system has experienced an unanticipated event.

5. The irrigation management system of claim 4, the graphical element being a first color if the irrigation system is currently dispensing water, being a second color if the irrigation system has completed an irrigation run as anticipated, and being a third color if the irrigation system has experience an unanticipated event.

6. The irrigation management system of claim 4, the visual indication of the progress of the irrigation system including a colored area of the graphical element corresponding to a completed portion of an irrigation run.

7. The irrigation management system of claim 1, the controller configured to receiving the monitoring information and continuously update the graphical user interface in real time.

8. The irrigation management system of claim 1, the unanticipated event being an alignment fault or a water pressure fault.

9. A method comprising:

continuously monitoring the activity of each of a plurality of irrigation systems, including a current position of each system, a travel status of each system including whether the system is moving or stopped, a direction of travel of each system, and a fault status of each system including whether the system has experienced an unanticipated event;

displaying a graphical user interface including a map view of the plurality of irrigation systems, the map view including a graphical element associated with each irrigation system, each graphical element providing a visual indication of the position of each irrigation system, a direction of travel of each irrigation system, progress of each irrigation system, and the fault status of each irrigation system; and

updating the graphical user interface to reflect changes in the position of each irrigation system, the direction of travel of each irrigation system, the progress of each irrigation system, and the fault status of each irrigation system.

10. The method of claim 9, further comprising displaying, as part of each graphical element, an outline of the respective irrigated area and a line corresponding to the position of the irrigation system in the irrigated area.

11. The method of claim 10, further comprising displaying an indicator of direction of travel of the irrigation system associated with the line.

12. The method of claim 9, further comprising displaying the graphical element as a first color if the irrigation system is dispensing water, as a second color if the irrigation system has completed an irrigation run as anticipated, and as a third color if the irrigation system has experience an unanticipated event.

13. The method of claim 9, further comprising:

receiving an input from a user indicating one of the graphical dements; and

displaying, in response to receiving the user input, a user interface element for controlling the irrigation system associated with the selected one of the graphical elements.

14. The method of claim 13, further comprising displaying, as part of the user interface element, control elements for starting the system, stopping the system, changing direction of the system, and programming an end position of the system.

15. The method of claim 9, further comprising displaying, as part of the map view, a depiction of a geographic area including irrigated areas corresponding to the irrigation systems.

16. The method of claim 15, the depiction including an aerial image of the geographic area.

17. The irrigation management system of claim 9, the visual indication of the progress of each irrigation system including a colored area of the graphical element corresponding to a completed portion of an irrigation run.

18. The irrigation management system of claim 9, the step of updating the graphical user interface including continuously updating the graphical user interface in real time.

19. A system comprising:

one or more computers; and

a computer-readable medium coupled to the one or more computers having instructions stored thereon which, when executed by the one or more computers, cause the one or more computers to perform operations comprising;

continuously monitoring the activity of each of a plurality of irrigation systems, including a current position of each system, a travel status of each system including whether the system is moving or stopped, a direction of travel of each system, and a fault status of each system including whether the system experienced an unanticipated event;

displaying a graphical user interface including a map view of the plurality of irrigation systems, the map view including a graphical element associated with each irrigation system, each graphical element providing a visual indication of the position of each irrigation system, a direction of travel of each irrigation system, progress of each irrigation system, and the fault status of each irrigation system; and

continuously updating the graphical user interface to reflect changes in the position of each irrigation system, the direction of travel of each irrigation system, the progress of each irrigation system, and the fault status of each irrigation system.

20. A computer-readable, non-transitory storage medium storing instructions, which, when executed by one or more processors, causes the one or more processors to perform operations comprising:

continuously monitoring the activity of each of a plurality of irrigation systems, including a current position of each system, a travel status of each system including whether the system is moving or stopped, a direction of travel of each system, and a fault status of each system including whether the system experienced an unanticipated event;

displaying a graphical user interface including a map view of the plurality of irrigation systems, the map view including a graphical element associated with each irrigation system, each graphical element providing a visual indication of the position of each irrigation system, a direction of travel of each irrigation system, progress of each irrigation system, and the fault status of each irrigation system; and

continuously updating the graphical user interface to reflect changes in the position of each irrigation system, the direction of travel of each irrigation system, the progress of each irrigation system, and the fault status of each irrigation system.
