Abstract

Methods and systems are provided for facilitating control of a child'"'"'s purchasing of products from a merchant using a credit card, debit card, gift card, secure token, mobile device, or the like. A payment provider, such as Paypal, Inc., can authorized the purchase of a product from the merchant if both the child and the parent are checked in with the same merchant via one or more social networks (thereby indicating that the child and the parent are in or near the same store). This requirement for proximity between the child and the parent can provide the parent with an opportunity to more closely monitor purchases made by the child.

Claims

1. A system comprising:

a memory storing account information of a parent in a parent account, the account information including information regarding a child of the parent;

one or more processors operable to;

receive a communication including an indication of a desire of the child to purchase a product from a merchant;

access the parent account;

determine from the parent account whether or not the child is authorized to purchase the product;

access a child'"'"'s social network to determine a location of the child;

access a parent'"'"'s social network to determine a location of the parent; and

provide authorization for the child to purchase the product based, in part, on whether the child and the parent are at a same location.

2. The system of claim 1, wherein determining the location of the child comprises determining if the child has checked in with the merchant on the child'"'"'s social network and determining the location of the parent comprises determining if the parent has checked in with the merchant on the parent'"'"'s social network.

3. The system of claim 1, wherein the child'"'"'s social network and the parent'"'"'s social network are a same social network.

4. The system of claim 1, wherein the child'"'"'s social network and the parent'"'"'s social network are different social networks.

5. The system of claim 1, wherein the one or more processors are operable to determine that the child and the parent are at the same location if the child and the parent are checked in at the same store.

6. The system of claim 1, wherein the one or more processors are further operable to facilitate requesting of approval of the parent for the child to purchase the product if the child and the parent are not at the same location.

7. The system of claim 1, wherein the child checks in with the merchant on the child'"'"'s social network and the parent checks in with the merchant on the parent'"'"'s social network via a near field communications (NFC) enabled mobile device.

8. A method comprising:

storing, in a memory, account information of a parent in a parent account, the account information including information regarding a child of the parent;

receiving, electronically by one or more processors, a communication including an indication of a desire of the child to purchase a product from a merchant;

accessing, by the one or more processors, the parent account;

determining, by the one or more processors, from the parent account whether or not the child is authorized to purchase the product;

accessing, by the one or more processors, a child'"'"'s social network to determine a location of the child;

accessing, by the one or more processors, a parent'"'"'s social network to determine a location of the parent; and

providing, by the one or more processors, authorization for the child to purchase the product based, in part, on whether the child and the parent are at a same location.

The method of claim 8, wherein determining the location of the child comprises determining if the child has checked in with the merchant on the child'"'"'s social network and determining the location of the parent comprises determining if the parent has checked in with the merchant on the parent'"'"'s social network.

10. The method of claim 8, wherein the child'"'"'s social network and the parent'"'"'s social network are a same social network.

11. The method of claim 8, wherein the child'"'"'s social network and the parent'"'"'s social network are different social networks.

12. The method of claim 8, wherein the one or more processors are operable to determine that the child and the parent are at the same location if the child and the parent are checked in at the same store.

13. The method of claim 8, further comprising the one or more processors being operable to facilitate requesting approval of the parent for the child to purchase the product if the child and the parent are not at the same location.

14. The method of claim 8, wherein the child checks in with the merchant on the child'"'"'s social network and the parent checks in with the merchant on the parent'"'"'s social network via a near field communications (NFC) enabled mobile device

15. A computer program product comprising a non-transitory computer readable medium having computer readable and executable code for instructing one or more processors to perform a method, the method comprising:

storing account information of a parent in a parent account, the account information including information regarding a child of the parent;

receiving a communication including an indication of a desire of the child to purchase a product from a merchant;

accessing the parent account;

determining from the parent account whether or not the child is authorized to purchase the product;

accessing a child'"'"'s social network to determine a location of the child;

accessing a parent'"'"'s social network to determine a location of the parent; and

providing authorization for the child to purchase the product based, in part, on whether the child and the parent are at a same location.

The computer program product of claim 15, wherein determining the location of the child comprises determining if the child has checked in with the merchant on the child'"'"'s social network and determining the location of the parent comprises determining if the parent has checked in with the merchant on the parent'"'"'s social network.

17. The computer program product of claim 15, wherein the child'"'"'s social network and the parent'"'"'s social network are a same social network.

18. The computer program product of claim 15, wherein the child'"'"'s social network and the parent'"'"'s social network are different social networks.

19. The computer program product of claim 15, wherein the child and the parent are at the same location if the child and the parent are checked in at the same store.

20. The computer program product of claim 15, wherein the method further comprises requesting approval of the parent for the child to purchase the product if the child and the parent are not at the same location.

21. The computer program product of claim 15, wherein the child checks in with the merchant on the child'"'"'s social network and the parent checks in with the merchant on the parent'"'"'s social network via a near field communications (NFC) enabled mobile device.
