Abstract

An offer redemption system is provided with least one computing device. An offer clearinghouse application is executable in the at least one computing device. The offer clearinghouse application includes, (i) one or more processes that receives details of an offer including at least one product to which n offer applies and at least one offer restriction for the offer, (ii) one or more processors that provides for distribution of the offer to users on behalf of an advertiser and (iii) one or more processors that provides for redemption of the offer with a retailer. A retailer interface receives, at a time of offer redemption, information to identify a retail transaction and line item used by an offer validation.

Claims

1. A system, comprising:

at least one computing device;

an offer clearinghouse application executable in the at least one computing device, comprising;

one or more processes that receives details of an offer including at least one product to which an offer applies and at least one offer restriction for the offer,

one or more processors that provides for distribution of the offer to users on behalf of an advertiser,

one or more processors that provides for redemption of the offer with a retailer; and

a retailer interface that in operation receives at a time of offer redemption information to identify a retail transaction and line item used by an offer validation.

2. The system of claim 1, wherein the retailer interface receives at the time of offer redemption other data that is part of a retailer'"'"'s record of the offer redemption.

3. The system of claim 1, wherein the retailer interface communicates the information to identify the retail transaction and line item used by the offer validation to the offer clearinghouse application.

4. The system of claim 1, wherein the offer clearinghouse application records the information to identify the retail transaction and line item used by the offer validation in a database.

5. The system of claim 1, wherein the offer clearinghouse application creates a record at the database that links specific user and offer instance with the retail transaction.

6. The system of claim 1, further comprising:

one or more processors that facilitate offer distribution using clearing records to enforce conditions on offer distribution established by the advertiser.

7. The system of claim 1, further comprising:

one or more processors that use a clearing record to perform user offer targeting.

8. The system of claim 1, further comprising:

one or more processors that use clearing records to detect misuse of offers.

9. The system of claim 1, further comprising:

one or more processors that create an offer metrics report.

10. The system of claim 1, further comprising:

one or more processors that create an invoice.

11. The system of claim 10, wherein the invoice includes information relative to a number of offers redeemed and a total amount paid to the retailer.

12. The system of claim 1, wherein the offer clearinghouse application includes an offer function.

13. The system of claim 1, further comprising:

one or more processors that provides for distribution of the offers to users on behalf of the advertiser.

14. The system of claim 1, wherein the advertiser provides the system with offer distribution rules and offer redemption rules.

15. The system of claim 1, wherein the offer distribution rules and offer redemption rules include at least one offer restriction of an offer budget, the offer budget specifying at least one of:

a maximum total number of redemptions of the offer and a maximum total number of offers that can be redeemed by users.

16. The system of claim 14, wherein the at least one offer restriction includes a retailer restriction, the retailer restriction specifying at least retailer that can redeem the offer on behalf of a user.

17. The system of claim 14, wherein the at least one offer restriction includes an offer targeting criteria.

18. The system of claim 17, wherein the offer targeting criteria includes at least one of:

demographic information of users to whom the offer is available, at least one product purchase made by users to whom the offer is available, at least one product viewed by users to whom the offer is available, and a geographic location of users to whom the offer is available.

19. The system of claim 14, wherein the system restricts users to whom the offer is available by enforcing the offer targeting criteria.

20. The system of claim 14, wherein the offer restriction further includes a minimum advertised price.

21. The system of claim 1, further comprising:

one or more processors that enforces the offer restriction by identifying a minimum advertised price associated with a product on a retailer site; and

one or more processors that denies redemption of the offer if a minimum advertised price exceeds a price specified by the offer restriction.

22. The system of claim 14, wherein the advertiser provides an offer specification that includes an amount the advertiser commits to pay in connection with a sale of a product.

23. The system of claim 22, wherein the amount the advertiser commits to pay in connection with the sale of a product includes, an offer face value and a fee associated with redemption of the offer.
