1. A charging handle for a rifle having a receiver, comprising:

  • a body portion comprised of a shaft having a transverse member at a rearward end and a bolt carrier engagement portion at a forward end;

    a latch mechanism comprised of a primary handle defining a latch element on it'"'"'s front end and a protruding member on its back end, a secondary handle defining a protruding member on its back end, a spring and a plunger;

    said latch mechanism is moveable between a first position and a second position, said first position placing said latch element into contact with the firearm receiver, said second position disengaging said latch element from the firearm receiver;

    said primary handle and said secondary handle are secured to said transverse member, said plunger provides a means of placing said primary handle and said secondary handle into communication whereby the rotation of one handle results in the simultaneous rotation of the other handle and the movement of said latch element;
