1. A surgical buttress for use in a surgical stapling apparatus, the surgical buttress comprising:
- an elongate rectangular body portion defining a width;
a neck portion integrally formed with and extending from a distal end of the body portion, the neck portion defining a width;
a head portion integrally formed with and connected to a distal end of the neck portion, the head portion defining a width; and
a tail portion integrally formed with and extending from a proximal end of the body portion, the tail portion defining a width,wherein the width of the tail portion is less than the width of the body portion, and the surgical buttress is formed from a material having filaments.

A surgical buttress for use with a surgical stapling apparatus having a cartridge assembly of any number of lengths and an anvil assembly of any number of lengths corresponding to the lengths of the cartridge assembly, wherein each of the cartridge assembly and anvil assembly defines respective juxtaposed tissue contacting surfaces, and wherein the cartridge assembly includes a plurality of staples stored in staple slots thereof for formation against staple formation pockets of the anvil assembly, the surgical buttress comprising:
